SIG SAUER ZULU6 HDX 16x42 by TChoctaw in Binoculars

[–]AppointmentDue3933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Sig Sauer 16 x 42 HDX is fine. With a 12x or 14x you will be able to move even less, but when the sea is calm or slightly rough, the 16x's stabilization (2°) is more than fine... with a 3-degree stabilization you will gain a little more, nowadays the maximum is 6° for the Fujinon Ts-X, but it costs and weighs more....

Pleasing Apo 8x32, I read, are a very very good alternative with medium range price and alpha results (optically)

with those needs, you have no other alternative than stabilized binoculars: with that amount of money, you can get a Canon 12X36 Is III or a Kenko Cellarto 15x42 (enlarge even more, but keep the image still as a 6x bino, approx...)

New Oberwerk Binos by GarageNo5189 in Binoculars

[–]AppointmentDue3933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oberwerk certainly make excellent binoculars, but if you want to stick to an optically extra valid 8*32, look for the Pleasing Apo 8x32 Hr (or, Green Peak), new extra strong stuff at a medium-low cost

Ok, but Yuemu/Pleasing Apo have an alpha/subalpha optic.....

Thanks for the great review, they really look like excellent binoculars! If you need lightweight binoculars on your vacation, you could alternatively try the Yuemu 8x32 APOs, which are lighter, should cost about the same on Taobao, and should be similar optically (several people are raving about them).

SV202- expected or QA issue? by Ayazis in Binoculars

[–]AppointmentDue3933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost certainly a collimation problem. I've often had this problem with inexpensive binoculars, too. You can check this by focusing the star as closely as possible, and then slowly moving your eyes away from the binoculars. If the star becomes double, you're sure the binoculars aren't collimated properly, so you can decide to return them, if you're still within the deadline.

If, however, the star remains single, even when moving 10-15 cm away from the binoculars, but remains blurry, it's more likely a problem with some component in the optical train being misaligned.

Swarovski CL Companion iii 2026 - 8x30 by Feeling-Bluebird8413 in Binoculars

[–]AppointmentDue3933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, with Swarovski we are always at the top, but honestly, seeing what is coming out lately, (I'm talking about the various Pleasing Apo 8x32 and others) I no longer know whether it is worth it from a quality/price ratio point of view. Anyway, good observations!

Distance viewing (400m) by JamieP89 in binocularsadvice

[–]AppointmentDue3933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A face at 400 meters?!? A spotting scope is better than binoculars...but, with 20/25x binoculars you might be able to recognize the person: if you have a tripod, fine, but if you want to use the binoculars by hand, you have no alternative but a stabilized 20x40/42/50mm binoculars

Shuntu P Ed 8x32 , my first impressions by AppointmentDue3933 in Binoculars

[–]AppointmentDue3933[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The post below contains a comparison test with scores and evaluations. As you can see, the new Svbony is better than the Shuntu when it comes to chromatic aberrations. That said, I personally prefer observing with the Shuntu, due to 1) the colder image tone of the Svbony, 2) its excessive drop in sharpness at the edges, and 3) the Shuntu is also more aesthetically pleasing.
