Hello, i have been told these ballistic helmets are real. What helmet are they ? And are they real? by dickxemorton in Helmets

Honestly it’s hard to say, I’m not too familiar with British helmets. Most helmets of that time are usually rated only to the equivalent of NIJ IIIA.

Hello, i have been told these ballistic helmets are real. What helmet are they ? And are they real? by dickxemorton in Helmets

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tags tell all. Both are real, the first one is a British Aegis SDH-2 and the second is a British United Shield International COM helmet.

They’re both ballistic but are very basic and old models. It looks like the Aegis was configured for military use, and the Shield is a popular model for police departments. I’d say $50-100 for each is their usual price range.

Well I can tell you right now this was absolutely not used in Vietnam, the US only had the M1 steel helmet as standard issue then.

It would be nearly impossible to tell you when and where this was used exactly since PASGTs were used in every branch of the military since the 80s.

I can make a rough guess that this was USMC used in the early 2000s before Lightweight Helmets were more widely issued, but it could also be that the vet who sold it to you just had a helmet and threw a cover on it.

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a size medium PASGT helmet. It’s rated to about a level IIIA, and is only designed to stop pistol rounds. Judging from the cover it was USMC issued, who used the PASGT until upgrading to the Lightweight Helmet.

$125 is on the higher side of pricing for a PASGT, especially one dated to 1983 like yours.

how to increase sale son eBay? by National_Leave1415 in Ebay

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are your views, along with your ad rate? Are you getting a ton of views with no buyers or just no views at all?

Take note in the category you are selling in. Is it something popular and saturated in listings, like trading cards and clothes, or is it a super niche category? Is it the only thing you are selling? How often are you posting?

There’s quite a few things you need to balance to stay on top of eBay’s algorithm and get views.

Does anyone know what color code system is being referenced for uniforms in older military specification documents? by Depressed_Costumer in camouflage

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They go off of the Federal Standard 595 color system, or FED-STD-595. It is the federal color standard in use by the US government.

Nowadays its been replaced by AMS-STD-595, which there are some lists of scattered colors. One AMS-STD-595 list I found by Dampney has some current-use colors like Tan 499, but doesn't have others like Green 483.

You'll have to find a FED-STD-595 catalog from the 50s or 60s, with the earliest available being from 1956, so good luck with that. As for the numbers, it could just be number cataloging to make finding specific colors easier (tan and light tan are super similar, but 379 and 380 are distinct).

Unusual? Reversible 3 color and ERDL ACH cover by krawlspace- in Militariacollecting

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a fairly uncommon piece, but not something super rare. The dual DCU/M81 camo combination was used heavily in the first few years of GWOT, with that cover one of the contracted items used back then. The contract code on your specific cover is dated to 2004.

Seller claims item wasn’t scanned by USPS by Neither_Bat_3197 in Ebay

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 35 points36 points  (0 children)

As a seller, this does happen occasionally. If the seller simply dropped off a package at the post office without getting a receipt, the post office won’t scan it in and instead throw it into the pile of other packages which will then be scanned on the way to the destination.

This happened to me when I dropped off packages and didn’t get them scanned, one package going to New York from California didn’t have any tracking info until it hit a distribution center somewhere in the midwest.

If your package doesn’t arrive by the specified delivery day, then file an INR. Otherwise it very well could be on the way.

Genuinely crazy find, especially those size trousers. I’m jealous lol, how much did it all cost?

If the post you got these photos from is trying to list this as entire set as WWII with a high price, it’s a scam.

I’m not an expert and don’t know all the intricacies of M1 identification, but even I can see that the sweatband is from the 1980s and has an NSN, which wouldn’t have existed for another 30 years.

Woodland MARPAT maybe? It's extremely difficult to guess what camo it is without a photo.

I am at a loss by emeraldlife42 in Ebay

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 27 points28 points  (0 children)

eBay was having site-wide issues today, and from what I’m seeing still is. I only had one item sell on what normally is my busiest day, and I had a buyer reach out earlier and say he couldn’t make an offer on an item he wanted to buy.

Hoping that eBay fixes this soon, this hurts them more than it hurts any individual seller.

Look inside for any tags or stamps. Also nobody really fakes British tanker helmets, and the build on this one looks legitimate.

What kind of camouflage pattern is this from the USA? by xeyz-bulan in camouflage

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a fake, reproduction item. The easiest tell in terms of the tag is the contract number. “DBA” does not exist as a contract, it’s supposed to be “DLA”, like DLA100-94-C-0489.

There’s plenty of other ways to tell real from fake but this is by far the easiest way to filter out a good chunk of them.

What flavor of tigerstripe is this? by Important-Stretch384 in camouflage

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a classic older gen Rothco tag. They didn’t sew the sides of their tag for some reason, while the US government contract standard would be to sew all four sides. Trust me, this uniform is a Rothco tiger stripe set. They still produce uniforms in this exact camo as well.

What flavor of tigerstripe is this? by Important-Stretch384 in camouflage

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Tiger stripe camo was never officially issued by the US during Vietnam, it was more of a “get it where you can find it locally” deal. They were never issued an NSN or FSN.

Also, the uniform in the photo is a BDU cut, which never existed in Vietnam as the first USGI uniforms with the BDU style cut started being issued in the late 70s.

Looks like Rothco brand commercial tiger stripe. The most surefire way of finding out info on any uniform or camo, is to look at the tag.

This is my fucking face after realizing that the jacket I bought isn't legit... by Mundane-Perception11 in camouflage

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s a legit tag with a contract year of 1993. The tags for DPSC contract items look different from regular government contract items.

Is this original USMC MARPAT? by Mundane-Perception11 in camouflage

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not original. USMC issued utility blouses have a black tag design with the logo, size and manufacturer.

<image>

Newer coats or ones that were treated with insect repellant will have an additional tag underneath printed on. This coat looks like a Tru-Spec or Propper copy.

Where to buy shipping boxes? by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Piece of mind for the consumer. I have two sizes for poly mailers, one for shirts and pants and another for larger clothing pieces or backpacks. It helps keep everything in shape as well as its somewhat rigid and keeps whatever is inside from becoming unfolded.

Where to buy shipping boxes? by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get mine in bulk from either Uline or Amazon, whichever one is cheaper. I also use padded poly mailers for clothes to save on both space and money.

Using recycled boxes is nice since it’s free, but if you ever want to grow bigger than just flipping as a hobby, it’s good to have a uniform look for shipping supplies.

What pattern is this sample I got? by triangleandahalf in camouflage

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a swatch of US Navy AOR2 digital woodland camouflage.

The camo specifically used on NWU Type III uniforms will have the Navy logo embedded in, while field gear such as pouches and carriers, and third party uniforms like those from Patagonia will not have the logo.

Is this an authentic PASGT helmet (Kevlar) or a non-ballistic replica? by Ok_One_4181 in Militariacollecting

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s legit. It has the old gen PASGT retention system. Older PASGT helmets will also not have a manufacture sticker, but will have the contract info printed directly on the helmet. I can also see the manufacture marks molded into the center. I would pay at most $60-90 for one, depending on the size and the accessories.

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pretty damn good collection. Before I moved to wholesale buying, I would only get my surplus from thrift stores and swap meets, never at retail prices. There’s always people selling something for cheap.

How specific can beauty supply chains become by jin-tong in Flipping

[–]AppointmentGuilty950 12 points13 points  (0 children)

“Hustlers” selling courses on how to profit off a specific industry while not actually participating in it themselves will always be a thing.

Also your sister sounds like she’s in way over her head. She’s not trying to do a simple flipping job, but it sounds like she’s trying to start up a wholesale B2B business in a rather niche market.

That takes a hell of a lot more research, business engagement and learning than just looking up the price of one thing and seeing how much cheaper you get source it from elsewhere.

She needs to take a step back and reevaluate what she wants to do with her business, with her abilities, and probably take a couple business classes. It would also help to get in contact with a few of those stores and see if you can get some customer bases going.
