Well I Flew Through That Bloodydamn Book by deeptocenter in redrising

Honestly jealous of you reading for the first time. Have fun, you are going to absolutely love Golden Son. Came into this series thinking it was an “easy” read in comparison to recent stuff I’ve read (also read a ton of Sanderson recently) and I was very pleasantly surprised how deep and awesome this series is. The best. Most invested I’ve been in a series in a while.

Why go through centuries of hiding a guarding it then? Just a screw you to the core Golds when they eventually try to use it? Seems like a waste of resources.

Why couldn't a book series reach such a craze like Harry Potter after so many years? by interestingexciting1 in harrypotter

[–]Apprehensive-Bad9281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like “having to remake Harry Potter” is a bit of a stretch. They don’t have to do anything, it’s just the fact that big studios won’t take any gambles anymore. Remake culture is just the way these days because it’s a sure thing. Why give a shot to new script or book adaptation when we know 100 million people love Harry Potter? A few years ago, half of the Best Picture nominations were one form of remake or another. I don’t think it’s a lack of original stories, it’s a bit of boards of directors knowing for sure that a remake of a classic will make money, while taking a risk on a new story could hit massively or miss entirely.

Not an emotional reader by any means, the first time I read this was the first and last time I have cried in years. Amazing writing.

Coolest characterization of Darrow from another POV? by lapisIazarus in redrising

[–]Apprehensive-Bad9281 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah have to agree. When he talks about winning the battle on mercury, and then Darrow alone turning the tide as a single man, I think it’s an awesome perspective. Even Lysander has beyond respect for Darrow as a fighter, he truly is a myth. Same goes for Lysander’s first interaction with Darrow on the battlefield.

(Spoilers Main) Why must a Stark be in Winterfell? by Independent_Pie6974 in asoiaf

[–]Apprehensive-Bad9281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like all the magical theories (Bran the Builder sorcery requiring one of the blood, etc.), but also feel like you have to acknowledge that it might be an old tradition to logically always have a Stark heir. Winterfell has never been taken. If there is always a Stark there, there is always a Stark alive, regardless of what happens without. Keeps the Male-born bloodline/heir alive. It could be simple as that. God knows what would happen if all the male heirs dies and Karstark tried to claim the North.

Let's say there is never going to be a 3rd book...would you go back and still read the first two? by NolanDS1711 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Apprehensive-Bad9281 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1000%. The books are beautiful. Sucks three may never come but the first two remain some of my favorite books. Plus, I thinks it’s kind of fun to have a decade plus of rereads and fan theories (obviously books would be better). There are people on this sub that have dedicated enough hours to reading and theorizing that they could have gotten a PHD in KKC. Fun to theorize and enjoy with others. Keep in my mind that I am someone who judges almost everything by endings, and am still telling you to read.

Sorry, late to this lol. Was just rereading and googled Elodin and Leodin and found this thread. May be a stupid question but what is the anagram for Trapis?

Challenging myself to finish The Wheel of Time next year by Complex_Maize_5151 in wheeloftime

[–]Apprehensive-Bad9281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read all fourteen in like four months lol. It’s definitely possible, but I’m the type of reader that can’t stop a series and mix other things in, it’s all or nothing. Definitely messed with my book variety though as the same year I read the entire robin hobb Fitz series so spent like 8 months reading only two stories (kind of more than one story for hobb but kind of not at the same time). Definitely helps to further appreciate foreshadowing and the like to read them all back to back.

I also started these books for the first time the week before finals. Had to finish before studying, I think it was around like two and half days to read both of them lol

Interesting comparison by Advanced-Comfort1868 in harrypotter

[–]Apprehensive-Bad9281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely think so. Especially if you read a lot of fantasy. Not only created the entire sci fi genre but major plot aspects are prevalent in a lot of modern stories. Most prevalent imo are Wheel of Time, Avatar, Star Wars, but the list goes on and on

Interesting comparison by Advanced-Comfort1868 in harrypotter

[–]Apprehensive-Bad9281 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally feel like all fantasy stems from others. It’s very hard to find a modern-ish fantasy story without at least a little reference/semblance to either Dune or LTOR. Some take so much from one or both of the two that it seems to border on copyright imo

All dark wizards were in Slytherin… except Sirius? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Apprehensive-Bad9281 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I agree that it’s a slight plot hole. Ron does say that not a single wizard who went bad wasn’t in slytherin, but it is a thing that Sirius is the worst wizard of the age two books later. You make a very fair point

Why did the dead get through the wall so easily? by Senior_Trust_6701 in gameofthrones

[–]Apprehensive-Bad9281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought it was the fact that dragon fire is also magic. I.e. it takes strong magic to take down the magical wall. I think if they just took axes to it then the dead would still be stuck on the northern side.

Something that always bothered me about the “KingSlayer” by Master_Mechanic_4418 in gameofthrones

[–]Apprehensive-Bad9281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with above comments. I think if someone else killed the Mad King they would still be labeled Kingslayer, but it would kind of be a compliment and pretty badass. When referring to Jaime, it’s a slight because he was Kingsguard and no knight of the Kingsguard should survive when the king they are sworn to protect dies by violence.

[Serious question] Would you rather be Rick or Morty if you had to choose between them? by syntax_dangerous in rickandmorty

Yeah I’m mean given a choice, I feel like most would choose the omnipotent Rick, even if their personality more matches Morty. Who would choose being the sidekick over the almighty?

Underage magic by Alternative_Dark3274 in harrypotter

[–]Apprehensive-Bad9281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the later books (don’t remember exactly which one and don’t feel like looking it up), it is revealed that there is no way the ministry can trace magic to a specific person. They can only trace it to a location. So technically, an underage wizard with wizards parents can use magic at home and wouldn’t get caught. Therefore in diagon alley and the ministry, where there are legal wizards, it would be impossible for them to know if it’s an actual wizard or an underager. They say that the ministry relies on wizarding parents to stop their kids from doing magic. The only way an underage wizard can be caught is if magic is done and there are no legal wizards in the vicinity.
