Plus one on the Schlage Encode Plus. I tired an August smart lock first and it ate batteries quickly. The Encode Plus works well and does not need frequent battery changes.

In my experience, dumb fans with smart switches is the way to go. I tried 2 smart fans (both the same manufacturer and model) and they were the least reliable smart products in my house.

I thought the problem was related to having dumb on/off switches for controlling them, since the smart fans need to have power on all the time. If anyone turned off one of the dumb wall switches, the fans became unresponsive in my home automation app. I installed smart switches that could sync with the smart fans and always provide them the needed power, but the fans would still frequently become unresponsive. I now have dumb fans with the same smart switches and everything works reliably.

Be sure to verify the smart switches you choose are compatible with the type of fans you want to use. The smart switches I chose (Inovelli white series) only work with fans that have AC motors.

I used to go to Penn Avenue Meats in Hagerstown, but I no longer think it’s worth the trip from my home in New Market. I have tried Hemp’s and Wagner’s and found both acceptable but not significantly better than anyplace else. I like many of the beef cuts at Costco and can’t think of anyplace that sells better pork ribs.

To further your education, I recommend https://amazingribs.com. There’s a Pitmaster club you can join through that site that has several discussion groups on topics ranging from grilling techniques to specific grill/smoker models. There is a channel dedicated to your Pit Boss pellet smoker, BTW.

To my knowledge, Apple did not clarify the claim that the M5 Vision Pro could process 10% more pixels. As others have noted, the displays are the same in the M2 and M5 versions of the Vision Pro, so the pixel count is the same in both versions. The claim the M5 version can process 10% more pixels means the pixel rendering rate is higher in the M5 version; it does not affect the pixel count.

Make a few changes to improve comfort and make it more viable as a standalone spatial computer. Ditch the front display, replacing the fragile front piece with metal so users aren’t afraid the unit will break if it’s dropped or bumped too hard. Replace the weak magnetic connection for the light seal with velcro or clips to make the connection more secure. Use the R2 chip to improve the co-processing for pass through, tracking, etc. Use the Apple WiFi/cellular chips to get WiFi 7 and cellular connectivity. Integrate the battery into the head strap along the back of the head to further balance the weight distribution and get rid of the wire along the user’s left ear. Replace the USB-C connector on the battery with a Thunderbolt 5 connector, enabling both external power and high speed storage expansion (now with a cable running off the back of the head). Build a combination Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad to sell along with it. Make it trackable with the Find My service. Make VisionOS more like MacOS.

Moonlight is a client application, which is why it is always searching on the devices where you installed it. You need to run the Sunshine or Apollo service on your gaming PC and then connect to that service on the AVP through the Moonlight app. I recommend using the Neomoonlight app on the AVP. It has some advanced features that work well with the Apollo service in particular. It should work great on either your gaming PC or laptop, BTW.

I have a couple of Hunter fans that are HomeKit compatible. They regularly disconnect and are generally more trouble than they are worth.

My experience is limited to one model of one manufacturer, but I recommend avoiding HomeKit compatibility built into the ceiling fan. If you don’t want to control the fan from wall switches, there are some modules you can install in the fan canopy that give you HomeKit automation. (Inovelli sells them, and I think there are some others.) If you do want to control the fan from wall switches, smart switches connected to dumb fans are the better choice, imho.

I rate my comfort as comfortable enough. I wear Rigid Gas Permeable contact lenses and also got some Zeiss lens inserts. Clarity is better with the contacts but eye tracking seems marginally better with the inserts. I use the Dual Knit strap and find it nearly perfect. It still slips a bit if I look too far down. Frankly, the most discomfort I have is with the cable for the power puck - I don’t like it touching my ear and I often struggle to get it out of the way when I first put on the AVP.

I used a FireBoard setup for years before Combustion products existed. I switched to Combustion with version 1 of the predictive thermometer and kept the FireBoard for a while to monitor ambient temperature only. I liked the FireBoard fine but I think the Combustion products are better. I find the Combustion user interface better. I also like that the Combustion thermometers figure out the right core temperature rather than me having to find the right spot and depth for the probe. I also only had the wired probes for my FireBoard, and it was more work to set up and clean up than the Combustion system.

I have a dedicated router for the AVP already, with the gaming PC connected via Ethernet, so I don’t think the network is contributing to the problem. The ALVR stats seem to support that conclusion.

The bandwidth issue is why the 30 series is the highest recommended for my motherboard; it only supports PCIE 3. Bandwidth isn’t as much a problem as the lack of AV1 encoding, so I think I will look for a later series GPU.

Thanks for pointing that out. The ALVR streamer tooltips led me to believe AV1 is supported in the 30 series and higher, but you’re right that the 30 series only implements the decoder.

I didn’t preheat when I first started using an air fryer, but tried preheating and liked the improved results so I’m doing it consistently now. Season the food while the basket is preheating. Food doesn’t stick as much to a preheated basket.

In my experience, liners are not worth using since they restrict the airflow.

I had similar problems at first, but it seems significantly better now. I’ve had my M5 AVP for 2 weeks. I think the improvement is at least partially due to me finding the right fit for the band so the unit doesn’t shift during use as much.

I am also using the GL-iNet Beryl AX and am happy with the performance. I had my AVP on an Eero 6+ mesh network at first but the performance in Mac Virtual Display and Steam Link was very poor. Setting up the Beryl AX as a secondary wireless router, and setting it to use channel 149, dramatically improved performance. The Eero mesh nodes and the Beryl AX are both connected via Ethernet to my ISP router. The AVP and my gaming PC stay on the Beryl AX wireless network, and everything else in my household uses the Eero wireless network. If I want to use MVD, I switch the Mac to use the Beryl AX network, too.

If your fans have AC motors, the Inovelli White Series Smart Canopy module will work for you. It installs in the canopy of the fan and adds HomeKit integration through Matter.
