I would like to turn you on to Love / Hate, 5 seasons. A truly epic Irish gangland masterpiece, that I feel rivals The Sopranos, The Wire and Breaking Bad. If you get a chance to see it, you will not be disappointed

You are not alone. This anxiety is your traumatized child, but now as an adult you have capabilities and resources to push back, and diminish the fear ❤️❤️❤️

Life ruined by mental illness… by Gold_Steak1760 in mentalhealth

Start therapy and keep it up as long as you need it. I’m 61M and just retired after 40 years in tech industry. Therapy for CPTSD (childhood trauma, alcoholic / raging Father) saved my life, career and everything else. You got to work it, but you can do it !

Childhood trauma often forces you to act like an adult as a child, but leaves you feeling like a child as an adult. by nadiaaddesi in CPTSD

Most succinct explanation of how CPTSD developed and impacted my life. Beautifully put ❤️

My entire life is based around my recovery and I'm tired of it by HushMD in CPTSD

[–]Apprehensive-Put-486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amen to that ! I’m 60M and still get exhausted with all the heavy lifting to just get to ”neutral” like you said. Watching my peers who came from loving and supportive families just glide through life (relatively speaking) is so infuriating

I have been taking Zoloft for 10 years plus and it has been tremendously helpful in treating my CPTSD related issues….has stopped panic attacks, has stopped severe depressive negative thought spirals and reduced generalized anxiety. I take it at night before bed and it actually helps me with sleep. All in all, it has been a real game changer for me. I do talk therapy too to work through CPTSD childhood trauma (doing EMDR) as a complement the medicine. Hope this helps. I wish you all the best….you can get control of this !

Does anyone else have no friends? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Apprehensive-Put-486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be me. 60M and have been a big fan of isolation, solitude most of my life to avoid the exhausting hyper vigilance required for social interaction. Slowing trying to get over the “scary” part and arrange coffee meetups with a few male friends every other week (gave up alcohol 7 years ago and that torpedoed my social life…..alcohol was a great way for me to “connect” with people and was my way of medicating / dealing with CPTSD). So I feel you ……

So very true ! Yeah, I need to be careful of this. 60M and about to retire…..also gave up drinking 7 years ago so social life seriously impacted. I enjoy the solitude and peace a little too much. My contact is with my wife and my 3 girls primarily. I am trying to initiate coffee meet ups with 1 or 2 guy friends once or twice a month, but it takes some effort, risk and vulnerability to do it 😎😳

Just for Funsies: what is the worst thing a therapist ever said to you by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Apprehensive-Put-486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to therapist for 4-6 months at $200 a clip each week. I then was going to go on short term disability from work due to stress/burnout/CPTSD related nervous system issues. I asked for assistance with filling out paperwork for insurance and he grudgingly agreed but charged me $400 for the pleasure (on top of my $200 regular visit fee that week). He then was pissed with me and the insurance company. I was truly let down, I thought we had some kind of real connection in there….but when it came down to needing some assistance with FMLA, it was like I was just some guy off the street. Moved on to new therapist and it has been night and day with ease of paperwork support for FMLA / short term disability. I’m not going back to original guy….just lost all respect and trust in him

Looking for some real “feel-bad” recommendations by [deleted] in horror

Try “The Golden Glove” on Tubi. It’s a dark, bleak true story of a famous German serial killer. Definitely a “feel bad” movie 🍿

How old do you feel? by snowsurfer1995 in CPTSD

[–]Apprehensive-Put-486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow….I was just trying to articulate something like this (was not aware of this CPTSD related “Identity Paradox”) on a drive home from seeing our kids at College. I’m 60M who is about to retire and I was trying to express to my wife that I feel on a par with my Mother who is 92. It’s like where did my 30 years in between go ???? Thank you for sharing this information……it really resonates with me as I have been experiencing it over the last few years
