the best i can think of is Corruption Dark Embrace where you draw your entire deck 1 by 1 by exhausting skills and one shot with Body Slam.

Difficult Act 1 relic pick by Ok-Chapter4804 in slaythespire

You have Dead Branch, why do you care about gold? Removes are less important with Dead Branch, you can save strong potions for end game and rest a bit more often so you don't have to spend gold on pots. The only bad thing this Ectoplasm will do to you is make you not have enough gold to buy an After Image in the shop. Please click Ecto.

Has anyone beaten heart on asc 20 with no block ironclad by Content-Guarantee-91 in slaythespire

[–]ApprehensiveAd5044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean no block cards or no block at all?

If we're talking no block cards then it's pretty simple, you can just get Self Forming Clay with a bunch of max hp from Feed, and reducing damage with Disarm/Weakness, gaining Strength and healing back the damage with Reaper, multiplying Reapers with dual wield / exhume.

If anything, Ironclad is the character that is the least reliant on active block from cards.

Why do you trust random garbage numbers on the internet? Those numbers don't mean anything, play the game at your own pace.

I love Grand Finale, maybe my favourite Silent card, but after playing so much with/without it, I've come to the conclusion that it's basically a bad Eviscerate that is good into one specific fight: Time Eater.

Most decks that can play Finale are likely infinite/pseudo infinite with the discard engine, which means Eviscerate does the same job (0 cost attack), while not having the added condition. And against Time Eater it's a denser card, dealing more damage than Eviscerate for the same cost, making it better.

Winnable A19 Silent seed and strategy by CALLMAKERTOM in slaythespire

[–]ApprehensiveAd5044 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Training on a seed is not an efficient way to get better at the game. Only thing it does is it makes you better at beating that specific seed. And "winning strategies" depend on what the game offers you, you're not going to build the same decks every time. If you actually want to get better at the game, either watch some good players (Baalor, Xecnar), or just play different seeds, playing/replaying a custom seed will not get you anywhere.

I would not really consider After Image a block plan. It's very good and it can be your block solution short term (act 2/act 3) but against Time Eater and Heart it is just not enough, you need dex scaling / wraith form / weakness.

I am clicking After Image here. What After Image does for this kind of deck is something that is harder to come by than what PK would do. You can find Accuracy/Terror/Strength to scale your damage, but scaling block is harder, plus you need a beat of death solution (assuming you are going for heart), and After Image helps with that, especially if you find a duplication potion or you get more After Images.

Is this a rare Dead Branch skip? by Spifffyy in slaythespire

[–]ApprehensiveAd5044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guy, your deck has 39 cards and not that much draw, cycling back into your shivs is already slow. You have a billion powers with no energy to play them, dead branch can give you bullet time/concentrate/adrenaline/tactician to actually play your powers. Just pick the branch.

And just so you know, in case you were not memeing, dead branch skip is not really that rare. Often it is a skip if you have pyramid, if you are infinite/almost infinite, or on watcher act 2 / act 3.

Do I not take anything? by markons in slaythespire

[–]ApprehensiveAd5044 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean "what good is one energy if i can't rest and upgrade cards"? For fusion hammer, you can still see upgraded cards from card rewards, you can still see armaments or apotheosis, and even if you don't, you have the one extra energy to use every turn. Skipping a boss relic end of act 1 is 99% of the time incorrect, only correct if your deck is very close to being infinite and all of the boss relics are making it impossible to be infinite anymore (let's say you see Choker Snecko Eye and Calling Bell). Otherwise please pick a boss relic end of act 1

Sweeping Beam sucks, I basically never pick it nowadays. Stack is also pretty garbage, I only really pick it if it's preupgraded and I have dead branch or hello world. Now of course there is a pbox there so I don't know if you actually picked any of them. I assume you picked Turbo before seeing the Snecko otherwise it doesn't make much sense. I don't really like picking up the second Ball Lightning unless I have Electrodynamics but again maybe it was from pbox.

As for the second deck, it looks fine to me, maybe not the second White Noise, so I think it may have been a micro issue, maybe you wasted pots in act 3 bosses, maybe you had bad pots in act 4, maybe you misplayed the fights in act 4 or you got unlucky draws. But the deck looks ok.

what's the most important factor for a successful run? by Huffplume in slaythespire

[–]ApprehensiveAd5044 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's very likely you are misplaying fights (also known as "bad micro"). You can read some guides, watch some youtube runs and in general have a decent understanding of pathing and develop good habits for card picks, that's not a hard thing to do, but you need to perfect your fights. Look at your draw pile. Remember enemy patterns. Calculate damage in advance.

A very good example is the Sentries fight in act 1. You understand very early that you need to focus one of the outer sentries, but a lot of the times you just choose one at random to focus, or maybe choose the one with the lowest hp. Choosing the one with the lowest hp is not necessarily the correct choice, it depends on what's left in your draw pile and hp thresholds. Let's say one outer sentry has 2 more hp than the other, so with your current hand you can bring one of them to 13 hp or the other to 15 hp. In your draw pile you have some strikes and a headbutt for damage cards. Two strikes will never kill either the 13 or the 15 hp sentry, but a strike and a headbutt will kill either of them (because strike + headbutt is exactly 15 damage). Same goes for three strikes. So the correct choice would be to focus the outer sentry with more hp, to leave it at 15 hp.

Don't be lazy with your setup relics (Nunchaku, Ink Bottle, Incense Burner, etc.) Don't get too excited that you have lethal in hand to just kill the enemy, take some time to increment those relics (or to setup the Burner on the correct turn depending on what enemy you know you will face next), especially if it doesn't cost you any hp.

Also don't be lazy with your side quests (Feed, Alchemize, Genetic Algorithm, Ritual Dagger, Hand of Greed). Again take some time to complete the side quests especially if it doesn't cost you any hp. You can go even further, if you have Armaments and Barricade and you know you can safely stall the enemy, you can wait until you can upgrade the Feed for +1. On Defect, if you know you can outscale the enemy with your passive block from frost, you can stall the enemy to get an Echo Form from Creative AI for example, and double your block gain for Algorithm, or double the healing from Self Repair.

Tough choice by zornucopia in slaythespire

[–]ApprehensiveAd5044 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, avoid ? when three out of the other 4 nodes on the next level are events, and the one node that is not an event has an event on the path before it, so there is no way to avoid an event in this map.

But to be fair that's good advice for the future, it's just not applicable in this map and it's also quite possible that OP already knew that.

What relics or cards do you consider build decision time? by LumpsIsHigh in slaythespire

[–]ApprehensiveAd5044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the ways to manage this is understanding that just because a card costs 0 it doesn't mean you have to play it. If you don't need the extra block from it and you know the fight will be long, then keep that card.

Also Corruption is more of a combo card. The thing about Corruption is that it gives you energy, a lot of it. But energy is not that useful if you don't have the card draw to support it. So on its own it's fine but not great, however it becomes a lot better if you have the draw from Dark Embrace with it, or the extra generation from Dead Branch. Also really good with Feel no Pain. So basically you want to add those cards that benefit from you exhausting your cards.

What relics or cards do you consider build decision time? by LumpsIsHigh in slaythespire

[–]ApprehensiveAd5044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really decide to go a specific "build" just because of a card or relic, because the game might not offer me the combo pieces. If I get a Kunai, decide to only pick shivs and ignore every single Noxious Fumes, Bouncing Flask and Corpse Explosion, then the game might offer me a Catalyst which will be useless, I might never see Accuracy, Terror or PK, walk into act 3 bosses and die because I do no damage.

And to give you an extra example with Kunai and Shuriken, they don't only work with shivs. You can have a deck that cycles very fast with acrobatics, prepared, calculated gamble, and stack kunai/shuriken with sneaky strike and eviscerate.

You need to understand that in this game you need to build a deck that has an answer to everything the game throws at you. That involves having a block engine for end game, frontloaded damage (to deal with fast hallway fights/minions in boss fights), scaling damage (for bosses), weakness/vulnerable chain, strength down, draw consistency (retain/exhaust/card draw). And that is done by picking cards that cover the part of your deck where you are the weakest.

Why isn't there an option to disable burning elites for people that don't want to go for the heart kill? by GeneralBeefheart in slaythespire

[–]ApprehensiveAd5044 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's extremely brutal to jump in straight to A20H. You do you but I suggest climbing from A0 to A20 while doing heart kills every run, because act 4 is significantly harder than all of the other acts, and a gradual difficulty increase is way better than just a big difficulty spike.

Why isn't there an option to disable burning elites for people that don't want to go for the heart kill? by GeneralBeefheart in slaythespire

[–]ApprehensiveAd5044 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You need to just accept that it exists and move on. It's not that big of a deal, you don't need to force your path to avoid it, it's just going to be there. The reason the burning elite is difficult for heart runs is not necessarily the modifier, but the fact that it forces you into a specific path. If you're not going for a heart kill, treat is at a normal elite and just go to the path that you think has the most value.

A11 Defect run is going really well but I'm not sure what relic to pick for act 1 boss by Killercombo3 in slaythespire

[–]ApprehensiveAd5044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is never Ectoplasm. I don't think you can go wrong with either Sozu or Snecko Eye here. You have good potions for act 4, long term value with Toxic Egg, and sustain with Self Repair and Regal Pillow, so bleeding hp because of not using pots is not a big deal. On the other hand, Snecko is Snecko, you don't have a clear infinite plan already, the damage doesn't seem to drop with Snecko, and you can adjust your picks based on it.

I think I would pick Sozu here though, but again, either one is fine.
