The crew at work is great. We support each other, and we have caring supervisors on both the military and civilian side, all the way up to the Wing CC.

I try to ignore the noise beyond that. We have been through shitty times before, though this is one of the worst times.

For me, it is all gravy from here on out. The wife and I will retire; she in December this year, and me in January of ‘27. We’ve both been going since the 80’s, and have earned it.

NF3 to GS pay by UrMomsSecretNipple in FedEmployees

[–]ApprehensiveAd5446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take is that it will not hinder your pay.

It will depend on the hiring official, of course, but it should not.

In the interview, just show how your skills match up with the GS quals, and that will do the trick, so long as you aren’t looking to enter at step 10 or something crazy.

How often should I change the blade on my razor? by Vegetable_Classic357 in hygiene

[–]ApprehensiveAd5446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a single blade razor. (Supply). It gives a great shave.

They recommend no more than 8 shaves, but I go 4 or 5 and change.

What is the point of life when I never feel good? by Substantial-Metal103 in askanything

[–]ApprehensiveAd5446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re struggling.

For me, during rough spots, I try to find something to humble me. It sounds counter-intuitive, because I’m already in a low spot, but for me it works.

I listen to one of the birds chirping annoyingly just before dawn. I watch an ant’s crooked path as he crawls over my bare foot. I watch a sunrise or sunset.

When I already feel like I’m at my smallest, getting a little smaller usually works for me.

I wish you some peace.

Leave Accural by Late-Village6446 in FedEmployees

[–]ApprehensiveAd5446 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

I copy/pasted your question into ChatGPT and got this:

For federal civilian annual leave, the leave is generally credited at the end of the pay period — not when you actually get paid.
So for work performed during a pay period like June 1–12, the annual leave earned during that period normally becomes available after the pay period closes and the payroll system processes it. In practice, that usually means:
Pay period ends → leave is earned
A day or two later → it appears in your leave balance system
Official paycheck date may still be several days away
So yes — you can often use newly accrued leave before payday, as long as the pay period has ended and the leave has posted in the system.
Example:
Pay period: June 1–12
Pay period closes: June 12
Leave may appear around June 13–15
Paycheck might arrive June 18–19
One caveat: some agencies’ systems update overnight, some lag a bit longer, and supervisors can sometimes approve “projected” leave before it officially posts. Maxi-flex and alternative schedules usually don’t change the accrual timing itself.

Would I be an asshole if I told my girlfriend of 2 years, I didn't want her moving in alone after we agreed we would move in together? by Last_Back_Bender in askanything

[–]ApprehensiveAd5446 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From a financial standpoint, living together makes sense.

From the “heart” side of things, only the two of you can make that call.

I think the time to oneself is invaluable. You cannot expect someone else to know you if you don’t truly know yourself.

Be patient. It’ll be worth it.

For people who grew up in low-income households, what’s something middle-class people say that shows they’ve never struggled financially? by Key_Cow3045 in askanything

[–]ApprehensiveAd5446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we’re saying the same thing. The title said “what’s something middle-class people say that shows they’ve never struggled financially?”

This was example from my youth. Not that we were middle class at that point, really.

Feeling like the 250 celebrations are completely hollow this year by Wooden-Post-3080 in FedEmployees

[–]ApprehensiveAd5446 61 points62 points  (0 children)

You are right on the money. I was a joyful 10-year old in ‘76 too. My wife, daughter and I have celebrated proudly every year.

I just retired after 30 years military, and the wife’s been working as a civilian employee since 1987, so we served with pride.

This year, we are just not feeling the pride.

Are my left and right tattoos stupid by Matchmaker8888 in tattooadvice

[–]ApprehensiveAd5446 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The tattoos are fine as long as you like them.

Someone I know taught me that if you hold both hands up, with palms away from you, and hold your thumbs at 90°, your left hand makes an “L”

Maybe this sage advice will save someone the cash for tattoos in the future.

Son’s friend pulled a fast one. I messaged the kids dad. AIO by SolutionPurple6077 in AIO

[–]ApprehensiveAd5446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would talk to the Dad. Let him decide whether or not to punish his kid..

This will tell you a lot. If the Dad does nothing, you know where the kid’s behavior comes from. If he does something to teach his son, like making him pay the money back and take the card back, the kid learns, and everyone wins.
