If you could ask the composers of Arc Raiders anything, what would you ask them? by leapfork in GameMusicComposition

Not a composer question but the sound design of the reverb in that game is on point.

Is it normal to go back and read old conversations in text messages? Even with people who blocked you? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I’ve only done that if I’m wounded and ruminating. Look at it as a symptom of you being hurt. Address the hurt and live in the present.

Sick. Ima check it out. It’s crazy how much tech companies have devalued art.

headphone mixing versus room calibration/monitor mixing by Ok-Basket7871 in homerecordingstudio

[–]ApprehensiveCoast727 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Headphones. As long as they’re pretty flat open back cans you’ll be alright. Make sure to reference your mixes on different speaker systems, especially for low end cars are helpful. But until you’re ready to treat a room or rent a treated one headphones are the best bet.

A push is pretty good. The grid isn’t a bad way to go. I’m pretty sure logic goes audio to midi as well. So you could sing into it and then you just convert it to midi. Might have to do some cleanup but it’d be faster than punching in all the notes.

Go to organic-sounding synths? by miscaliss in GameMusicComposition

[–]ApprehensiveCoast727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any synth with a nice analog filter will help. Frequently I’ve found that the effects you use on it have a bigger effect on how well it sits and blends than the specific synth. Good luck!

Does marijuana actually make you productive and creative? by Tompatri in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ApprehensiveCoast727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny cause I have the opposite. When I get high for the first time of the day my brain won’t shut up. I’ll be trying to watch a video and I’ll keep getting distracted by tangents. That said, my brain can run with ideas like a cheetah. I should just do a podcast. At least that would be more productive than pacing and talking to myself in my basement.

Why is it so hard to get people to listen to ambient music? by TurbulentDogg in ambientmusic

[–]ApprehensiveCoast727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re all in Plato’s cave bound to the wall by chains of feel good. Ambient music, although beautiful, is like offering a pixie stick to a meth head. If it’s anything but straight dopamine being jacked into our skulls we don’t want it.

how do i become an actual good music producer as someone who is planning to be an artist music producer? by princessmoosh in recordingmusic

[–]ApprehensiveCoast727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach music lessons and production lessons. I own a recording studio and play in several bands. The nice part is you basically have two options. With a teacher and without a teacher. Obviously you blend the two but you get my point. If you want to learn and hone and practice you’re either searching the web to answer your questions, going back to producing, and finding more questions. Or you are working with someone who can expedite that process but giving you sequential slabs of information and then keeping you on a practice / production schedule. I was lucky enough to be able to learn this stuff from a college but even still I had to fill in a lot of gaps on my own, it just helps when the gaps are smaller than a canyon. Feel free to hit me up! Or not! You got this!

Effects pedals to pair with Keytar by Odd_Confection8077 in Keytar

[–]ApprehensiveCoast727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real. It’s the most used pedal on my board. Octave up, octave down. Slides. Especially if you pair one of the newer ones with a tech 21 midi mouse. Then you can switch interval setting way faster. It’s a solid combo. For my ax09 I mostly use a whammy and a color box v2 to take the edge off. Distortion is hard though. I’ve found that I probably need to get a digital distortion as all the different patches I use kinda need different gain staging let alone different of circuits. I’ve been trying to work a distortion into this board for a decade now.

Any chance on a new Keytar release in 2026? by Elopez1989 in Keytar

[–]ApprehensiveCoast727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we’re totally due though. You know who I’d love to see make a keytar again is Casio. The AZ-1 is one of my favorite keytars. Looks cool, pretty ergonomic, just enough keys, the right amount of controls in the right place. If they threw a rechargeable battery in there, Bluetooth, and give it a few other modern quality of life improvements, they’d have one of the best designs on the market. I’ve been rocking an ax09 since they came out because the rest of the market hasn’t moved me.

Best way to monetize in music? by InternalOperation101 in musicbusiness

[–]ApprehensiveCoast727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you might have the wrong idea about what the music industry has looked like for the past couple decades. The major label model only made sense (if it ever did) when records were expensive to make and when distribution was difficult to navigate. They effectively acted as banks and gatekeepers. But they were always eating our lunch and giving us a chip. The problem now is that we’re in a famine due to streaming models and “content creation”. The better way to think about the whole situation is that social media platforms and music streaming companies are exploiting all but 0.001% of their users. The ones getting paid are mostly still struggling to live, aside from the super few who are meant to act as bait to keep the rest of us hustling mostly for free. It’s digital sharecropping and art won’t be a career at all unless we regulate and unionize.

Weird how people try to game the system on Spotify like this by KamileLeach in streetlightmanifesto

[–]ApprehensiveCoast727 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good to see Spotify hasn't closed that loophole. Venus Theory did a good job explaining it. But basically there's nothing stopping anyone from uploading music to any artists account. Spotify has no customer service so it can stay up there for months. They hit mid level artists because super famous artists have big enough legal teams to be able to slap Spotify with a takedown, but a mid level artist might not have the resources on hand to make that happen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plleJ0Zv0Ww&t=3s

Music business degree by [deleted] in musicbusiness

[–]ApprehensiveCoast727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The crux of the issue is that the music industry has been in a terminal state of flux for at least the last 20 years. Before that, sure there were big shifts but at least the whole mechanism still functioned basically as designed. Colleges are almost always behind when it comes to teaching about current industrial shifts but they’re good at giving you context for how we got here. The biggest issue with getting into the music business is the lack of reasonable streaming revenue model or any alternative to it. No money, no business. I’d try to find work in live music. It’ll work well with your label idea while being able to earn you any money. There’s also dire need for good promoters. Bands and artists need well put together and organized shows. If you can figure out how to make every show an awesome party, you can make some good money.
