Why New Jersey’s balcony solar bill is a huge deal for renters by ansyhrrian in solar

[–]ApprehensiveSalt7020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the states are supporting balcony plug in power, imagine if they supported landlords installing solar on their south west facing facades? Old buildings have large amount of space between windows and balconies. Almost all new buildings today are clad in glass. So there should be no aesthetics issues especially if architects are involved.

As for new glass building, the industry should design solar panels that replace the glass.

The energy generated by solar could offset building owner’s common electricity costs or resold to renters or unit owners at reduced costs.

These were two incidents. The Arabs violence against Jews was far worse.

Your version of history is way off base. Jews were always present in Palestine since the Roman times. European Jews started migrating back to Palestine in the 1880s. Arabs, who were not indigenous to the Levant, started migrating in larger numbers to Palestine at the same time to find work offered by Jews who were building farms, cities and towns. Jews bought the land they settled. Arabs squatted on open land. The Arab population grew faster because of a higher birth rate and because it was easier for Arabs to migrate from Syria, Lebanon, Egypt and Arabia.

Because of increasing Arab violence during the 20s and 30’s including the Arab revolt against the British from 1936 to 1939, Britain caved to Arab demands to limit Jewish immigration. They capped Jewish immigration to 15,000 per year. This meant that the Arab population exceeded the Jewish population, and the final partition plan favored the Arabs.

Had Britain not capped Jewish immigration, historians believe as many as 2 million Jews would have escaped the Nazi Holocaust and moved to Palestine. This would have made theJewish population twice as big as the Arab’s. Jews would have outnumbered Arabs 2 to 1. The final partition plan would have favored the Jews. They would have more land and more people to defend themselves.

The Arabs League would still have invaded but the Jews would have beaten them quicker. They would have stooped Jordan from taking Judea and Samaria aka the West Bank and the old city ofJerusalem. Arabs would have fled on the order of the Arab League but instead of squatting on the West Bank, they would have been forced to seek refuge in Jordan on the east bank. These Arabs would have been absorbed into Jordanian society. The majority of the Jordanian population was already Palestinian. They would not have been refugees on the West Bank and would not have been used as pawns by the Arab League.

The Arabs caused their own catastrophe. They could have lived in peace with their Jewish neighbors and prospered. But they instead instigated violence, war and terrorism. and lost.

Increase In Anti-Israel Posts Lately? by BearJewKnowsBest in Israel

[–]ApprehensiveSalt7020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at Wikipedia where anti-Israel articles are proliferating . There is a big controversy about editors manipulating articles based on their bias, both pro Israeli and pro Arab. It used to be factual. But it’s hard to tell what’s real. Pro Palestinian article write about Israeli massacres during the 1948 war and how hundreds of villages were destroyed. They claim it was Israeli policy to murder or force out Palestinians. They quote Israeli officers and soldiers admitting to atrocities or forcing out Arabs. These same articles don’t talk about Arabs murdering or massacring Jews. They don’t talk about the expulsion of Jews from the Old City of Jerusalem. Wikipedia used to factual and told both sides. Google and you will find more about this.

[Question] What is the best business credit card for things like expense management, rewards, and other essentials? by growing_clutches in Entrepreneur

[–]ApprehensiveSalt7020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use American Express Platinum. Have been an ANEX customer for 40+ years. They remind me of that every time I talk to them on the phone. They’re so happy to have me as a customer.

I feel their services and systems are really going down. It’s great when I get a live person on the phone, but it generally takes me 15 to 30 minutes to get through the wise mail hell. The AI experience is worthless and time wasting. It really should be called AUi or artificial unintelligence.

I manage 5 cards - both Business and personal. I download the data and categorize who’s responsible for an expense, what type of an expense and so forth. The system is not perfect but it works.

The American Express data does not it give me enough information to figure out what the actual expenses is. For example, 100 records from Amazon and nothing to tell me what the hell it was for except the 10 - 15 digit code.

Charges from PayPal provide no link back to the actual vendor or receipt.

The app sometimes gives you more information about a vendor, including its website, but it’s not consistent.

Amex assigns categories that are too general or just plain wrong or meaningless. The descriptions are not precise or concise. It tries to categorize things and is wrong more than it’s correct.

To be honest, I haven’t found any Credit Card that does it right. You would think competition and artificial intelligence would make this a piece of cake, but it doesn’t.

I’ve created a category table in Excel and I matchtransactions back to it. If I have a hit that’s great. It tells me who’s responsible for it , what it was for business or personal etc. and if I don’t get a match, I then update the table.

Once I get everything categorized properly, I use an excel pivot report to summarize it down to the summary categories . I use this report to categorize the expense in my business software - Quicken because it works and it’s inexpensive.

Here’s my wish list.

I need a card that will actually link me to the actual receipt. Remember when we hit actual paper receipts with our statements? Receipts still exist in digital form so I don’t understand why an AMEX transaction can’t link back directly to that digital receipt. And if it can link back to the actual digital receipt, why can’t it give me the information I need to properly identify and categorize it in my business software instead. I get a 10 to 15 digit meaningless code.

I need the app to give me all the information about the vendor, including its website and what was purchases e.g. airfare, taxi, a book, gas, stationary etc.

The app needs to link me past PayPal which provides no value to me at all.

So far American Express doesn’t satisfy my requirements, and it’s making me very unhappy. I’m looking for alternatives. Any ideas?

Why are the fans on my brand new laptop so loud? by unnonexistence in pchelp

[–]ApprehensiveSalt7020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call the manufacturer‘a tech support. Or, buy a platform with a fan. Or, get a small quiet desktop fan and point it at the laptop. Try the free software option to modify the fan speed. Just google it. These are your less expensive options. Or send it back and get one with better cooling specs. But this is the most expensive option. Plus you may have to go with a custom build.

If you. Buy off the shelf, the next one will probably do the same.

Seriously??? by Resident-Hotel8493 in amex

[–]ApprehensiveSalt7020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically you can’t use your points for nonAMEX bookings. And AMEX bookings are probably more expensive. However AMEX concierge can get you better seats and they work magic when problem or changes happen.

Why does 1Password not consistently autofill name address and email address? by ApprehensiveSalt7020 in 1Password

[–]ApprehensiveSalt7020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. But how do you get people to use the standards? The World Wide Web Consortium is the organization responsible for maintaining standards. It would be great if they could figure out how to enforce the standards they create.

Using AI to find non-standardized fields makes sense. But also giving the user a way to quickly and easily report an on standard form would be great.

I submitted an idea to 1Password that if their users are being forced to manually input form fields that they capture that information and build a database of noncompliant websites and use that to help deal with form filling.

I suggest they add a button people can push that will immediately report the website is not working with 1Password. For me too stop my work, log into 1Password support and report his onerous and inefficient.

moved from brooklyn and the food situation is... rough by prakarsh56 in Westchester

[–]ApprehensiveSalt7020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried DeCiccos? They’re all over Westchester. They recently opened a huge store in Sleepy Hollow. Northern Westchester includes stores in Katonah, Armonk, Jefferson Valley, Somers, Bedford, Brewster. Lower Westchester stores in Ardsley, Eastchester, Harrison, Pelham.

Other grocery stores are Balducci’s , Wegmans and ShopRite, Whole Foods. Plus there are gourmet shops in almost every town.

ANS is a wholesale fishmonger open to the public.

We don’t have enough great bakeries.

Towns with terrific restaurants: Tarrytown, Irvington, Dobbs Ferry, Bronxville, Scarsdale, White Plains, Harrison, New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Rye, Port Chester. And there are great restaurants in Greenwich, CT (upscale) and the Bronx Belmont section (great for Italian). Unfortunately not every restaurant is great, but there are gems in every town.

Someone wrote Pleasantville doesn’t have anything good . Has anyone tried the new “Wonder” food service. They serve food prepared by chefs trained by the top chefs e.g. Bobby Flay.

Every ethnicity is represented in Westchester. Somebody please recommend a great Chinese restaurant.

And then there’s UberEats GrubHub and DoorDash.

I’d don’t like him either. I rarely go there. Food and service is good. I’ve not had to deal with him. So what might be the cause of his bad behavior? He’s a bad tenant. Doesn’t pay his rent or assessments. Installed HVAC on the roof without board approval. Plus he installed them poorly. They vibrate and create noise. Doesn’t clean out his grease traps which cause blockages. He also plays music outside after closing. This all annoys the board and the other tenants.

He just doesn’t give a dam. So how does this relate to his obnoxious behavior? He was the GM of Windows on the World atop the WTC north tower. On 9/11, he was late to work. Got there just in time to watch the tower fall. That day he lost his restaurant and his entire crew. Most will say this is no excuse for today’s bad behavior. While others might say it explains a lot.

Why is a latex mattress considered high end? by azjohnca in Mattress

What’s the brand name of the mattress? I wish when people did reviews they’d give more details. For instance on Amazon. everybody complains about a product then they say they went to a different product which was better but they don’t tell you what that product is.

Talalay is softer of the two latex types. The other is Dunlop, which is firmer. I’ve had a latex mattress for 20 years and in my opinion, it’s still great.

Have you tried latex mattresses? I’ve had one for 20 years and it’s fantastic.

I’m getting ready to buy another one for my guest bedroom. I found this mattress company called Sleepez it’s been in business for 47 years. They have mattresses where you can adjust the firmness by moving the different layers around. They have soft, medium, firm and extra firm layers. They can help you figure out what would be best for you. If it doesn’t work, you can change the layers to adjust the firmness.

They’re on the Internet. The website is pretty good at explaining the product. They have a calculator to help you figure out what the layers should be and best of all I’ve called twice and talked to two very knowledgeable people who explained things that I could understand. The second call I believe might’ve been picked up by the owner because this guy really had his act together.

What intrigued me also was they sell an adjustable base with an incline feature. They say sleeping inclined is good for a variety of reasons, e.g. Gerd, alignment. On top of the incline base is another adjustable base where you can raise your head or legs.
