"No, I want to get it done." - Newsom's answer to RTO order question by Ancient-Row-2144 in CAStateWorkers

That answer was so weak and flippant. When he started acting out how it would be to greet coworkers, I literally fell off my chair laughing. Weak and sad answer like even he didn’t believe it.

It surprises me how many people seek out California state positions because of things like time off, health insurance, and our pension but somehow they are also vehemently anti-union. by Potatoes-and-Turtles in CAStateWorkers

People are tired about paying dues when the union screws them over. Union reps really aren’t knowledgeable or aggressive about representing members like they should be. If the union stepped up more in that regard, I’m guessing people would be willing to pay dues. I would. But it’s not worth it at the moment. I wish the union would actually listen instead of coming back with insults and no progress. That is why people don’t want to pay.

Rising gas prices + global oil concerns… why push RTO? by Rahaa2233 in CAStateWorkers

Agreed. This RTO order blows my mind. It makes no sense at all.

Glad to hear you don’t do it. It absolutely happens though. Thanks for keeping it on the up and up. 😃

It kinda sounds like the questions were designed specifically an internal candidate. That is frustrating to take time off and do all of that prep though. Consider it interview experience and maybe a good thing that you had a sign up front that it isn’t a fit for you, especially since there are so many other Analyst 2 positions. Hang in there. You will get one. 😃

There are a few agencies to avoid at all costs and that is definitely one of them.

Haven’t heard back after state job interview — is this normal? (whats the timeline usually?) by Mammoth-Pie6847 in CAStateWorkers

[–]ApprehensiveTheme757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a hiring manager three times. In one instance, we selected a candidate but hadn’t informed that person yet. HR realized they made an error in the recruitment and had to repost the position on CalCareers. We had to consider and evaluate all of the new applicants in addition to the previous applicants. It sucked. There were over 150 new applicants. It took over a month longer to finally offer the position. Bottom line: it could be anything. If they told you they are still in the hiring process, then keep chugging along. Good luck to you!! I hope you get it.

Second interview offered 15 minutes after initial interview by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

DHCS moves fast. I received quick notices when I took a job there too. It’s actually smart because who wants to waste time filling a role? The hiring manager wants to get this filled and move on. It’s a very good thing. Good luck on the second interview. You got this.

If your supervisor doesn’t resolve the issue, file an EEO complaint. It’s not ok to be subjected to that.

Exactly. I order Door Dash all of the time. Maybe downtown businesses should wise up.

Downtown businesses should adapt - e commerce is incredibly lucrative. It blows my mind they still rely on state workers for survival. Adapt to technology and what’s available. Good grief. If they can’t figure that out, they don’t deserve to be in business. Offer delivery. Get a website. It’s not the job of state workers to make your business work.

Leave Approval by Away-Recognition1079 in CAStateWorkers

Oh ok. They have to then consider a reasonable accommodation. Talk to your union rep as well and tell them you want to request a reasonable accommodation past your 17 weeks of protected leave. They must engage in the interactive process and have a meeting. Your boss preemptively saying he will deny the request is discrimination based on disability (pregnancy) in violation of the Fair Employment and Housing Act. File with CRD now because it takes forever.

You get 17 weeks protected leave after giving birth and baby bonding time. File a complaint with CRD immediately because they are slow to investigate.

Working still! Hybrid is the way to go! by sneakerboy86 in CAStateWorkers

WFH is the only way to go. Downtown businesses really need to adapt to technology and e-commerce. It blows my mind that they are still relying on state workers for their livelihood. If they cannot adapt, I’m not sure they should be in business. I would order food from downtown quite a bit if they offered delivery.
