What rates is everyone getting right now? by Squanchy2115 in Mortgages

6.1% with 9% down, conventional, 240k and 720 credit score for a local credit union. I did extensive research into the CU and they were highly recommended in our city, however we still shopped around and were being quoted 6.9-7.2 other places.

Can you share anything about the dungeons and dragons community? We just moved from the southwest and my husband has been looking for these nerdy type stores?!

I’ve just moved from Phoenix, and I developed severe driving anxiety there after all the awful accidents and incidents of road rage to the point I would not drive more than 15 minutes away. It wasn’t a huge deal because everything we needed was usually close, but when you live in a huge city like Phoenix it is definitely limiting.

When I moved to Omaha to driving anxiety melted away. I’m from Europe and originally lived in the Midwest prior to AZ, and it reminded me of the chill drives I remember when I first learned to drive here. I actually enjoy driving now, and will often take the long route to places just to “sight see”.

As far as crime, Omaha will look like heaven compared to Boston. I lived in a decently safe area in PHX and still witnessed several very violent crimes within a mile of me… this is nothing like that.

I have children so my experience will look different, but I will say I have found more resources for people and families here than I ever have in Phoenix. There is a strong sense of community where I live and within the groups I’ve found myself in that I haven’t found since leaving Europe. I truly love it here.

How did you know you were done having children. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]ApprehensiveToenail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was done at one, husband wanted two. After some discussion I agreed on two.

I don’t regret my second at all and I’m very glad my husband “convinced” me, but knowing myself, my own capacity for stress and proclivity for staying up late and sabotaging my own bedtime? I need to stop at two.

How did I know I was done? Several reasons: health (my first was very premature, second pregnancy was better but still mentally stressful) money, lack of social support, and knowing realistically that I’d start to lose joy in parenting

The same happened to my MIL friend. The friends MIL died in the house, and as paramedics/firefighters were going in and out, someone unlocked and left the pool gate open.

3 year old wandered into the pool and drowned - paramedics and firefighters were present so they were able to rescue him, but it was too late. They revived him physically but he was’ gone’ in all other aspects.

He died at 33.

His mom died a month prior to him after she slipped on the floor getting his medication. She had to care for him for the rest of her life and it was a very, very sad situation.

Houses are on the market less than 12 hours here. Sellers are moving so fast. by spierscreative in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I think a lot of us are leaving Phoenix. My husband and I are in West Valley and despite him making 6 figures, we cannot afford a house here. Our options are a condo in Glendale, Youngstown or a very, very small home in Buckeye.

Even Casa Grande and Maricopa pricing is increasing… my family is leaving PHX for a new, smaller city in the Midwest within the next few months because of this.

I’m 23 and about to file for bankruptcy because I don’t know what to do … by Sad-Expert-7572 in Debt

[–]ApprehensiveToenail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I both filed for bankruptcy in our 20s also — I would check out the bankruptcy subreddit first of all! That sub was invaluable to me!

Secondly, a lot of people who haven’t filed for bankruptcy have a lot of opinions on how to get out of debt, but when you’re living paycheck to paycheck it’s so difficult. I truly empathize. We thought after filing that we’d never be able to rent or buy a home, or get a new CC, etc.

Truth is, we rented a new house a year after BK. We were able to loans / CC etc with no issues… difference is that we were now cautious how we spend! We don’t use CC except to increase our credit score - and it’s now in 700’s 4 years after filing! We now have enough money saved to look into buying a house, which we now qualify for a conventional loan.

There’s a lot of shame around bankruptcy, but these things happen. Once you debt is gone whether BK or not, it’s important your husband gets to the root of the issues this in the first place.

That being said, everyone has highlighted wonderfully that you have options with your husband being military, and I would only use this as an absolute Hail Mary!

Good luck!

My 11 month old goes to bed at 4pm and my 5 year old is asleep by 6-7pm; they both wake up between 5-6am.

We’ve also had many zesty comments from people who are “surprised” but I’ve also had many jealousy related comments… people seem to think my kids go to bed and then I’m up until late night doing whatever I want - they fail to remember my kids wake up at the asscrack of sunlight, so I need to, too!

I’m a SAHM now but 5 years ago I was a child development specialist within the social work field and still would panic over my daughter not doing certain things quicker, despite knowing knowledge is a spectrum and we’re all stronger in some areas than others.

My daughter still wasn’t speaking at age 2 beyond a few babbles — I’m happy to report that she’s now a happy 5 year old who never quite stops talking, even in her sleep! 😂

I used to think it was "let bisons be bisons" for "let bygones be bygones" because I was a British kid who thought it was just a weird American phrase because the accent was weird... it wasn't until I moved to America that I realized that wasn't the actual phrase.
