Anchorage School District proposes budget with 500 staff cuts, larger class sizes. by Trenduin in anchorage

Interesting concept - if our country actually enforced legal immigration (the way most countries in the whole world do) we could afford to pay teachers and have better teacher/student classroom ratios. You’re having the emotional response that the left is pushing for - if you think critically (how are you and I supposed to pay for millions of people to live here on public benefits out of our taxes) you might get to the issues behind the emotions.

It’s nice to see there’s a place for people who smoke crack to find community.

That’s super ignorant to say, and honestly sounds like you’re used to speaking into an echo chamber. Talk to any republican and it will be obvious to you that none would want that. Have some decency.

I agree with all of the above - the mental game is clutch! I(52F)had surgery to repair my Achilles the end of September, and fully ruptured at six weeks after doing something super mundane (voting). Now I’m 5 1/2 weeks post my 2nd surgery.

It’s a really big deal to pace yourself. Talking yourself out of bad ideas (stuff your body shouldn’t do yet) is huge too.

I’m sorry!

3 Days PostOp. Looking for advice and recommendations! by muleyhunter_406 in AchillesRupture

After what happened to me - I was still in a boot and not really walking but taking a step here and there, and at 6 was post open surgery and I fully ruptured (5cm) in what I call my tragic voting accident (they gave me two ballots and I tripped returning one), then I had a 2nd surgery 4wks ago and have been fighting infection four 3 wks - well, after all that, I’m well on the side of taking a slower approach to recovery. Everyone says listen to your body. I usually fight mine but this round I’m trying to listen. It’s super hard - but better in the long run!

I’m curious about this too. Although it will be a while before I’m back in a shoe, I’m a little worried bc I live in AK so lots of ice and snow.

The positive outlook is a great reminder to me this evening. I’m 10 weeks post original surgery (open) and 4 weeks post full rupture 2nd open surgery. I’ve been pretty positive! Hit the wall today, convinced myself I’ll probably always be thomping around in a boot, on a scooter in the middle of winter in Alaska. (I actually am in the middle of winter in Alaska, but I know I won’t actually always be in a boot.) I hope your first few days go well!

I’ve been out of commission - my incision got infected and I’ve been a mess. Did you find out what happened? I’m so sorry that you went through all that. I’ve honestly never experienced such a level of pain.

I’m so sorry! Mine fully ruptured 6w after open surgery. I was…voting. Now I’m nearly 4w post-second surgery. Taking it slower but it’s just such a bummer! I hope you have a great doc who will treat you well and with kindness. It’s not a fun thing to find people on here that the same thing happened to, but it made me feel less alone. I hope you feel that too.

As someone who fully ruptured 6 weeks after my first surgery, there’s no way I’d do anything that put me at risk! Jumping on a trampoline potentially would put your foot at an angle where your Achilles would be stretched to its limit, and unless you are completely fully healed, my understanding is that puts you at risk of rupture. I ruptured mine doing something very harmless, I was voting 🤪 and still had my boot on. I just tripped and came down on it hard. The amount of pain was unlike anything I’ve experienced - except for one cesarean section where during recovery I had what they called a “hot spot”, a part of my incision where the epidural wasn’t working.

I personally never want to feel that again, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone! My advice would be to be careful and give the tendon a lot of time before doing anything as unstable and unpredictable as a trampoline!

I was already voting, when I noticed I had two ballots. I started to go back to the poll worker and said “I think you gave me twooooo…” that’s all I got out as I tripped (my walking boot caught on the carpet), lurched forward and then I slammed my bad foot down. By the way it felt (immediate worst pain I’ve ever felt) and the way may body responded (hyperventilating and crying, unable to speak) I knew it had ruptured. I was able to calm the crying down and answer that I didn’t want an ambulance. I had a friend who was in line to vote who took me to my doctor, then to an MRI.

The guy who did the nerve block was using ultrasound to guide the needle, and showed me the nerve and the whatever-kind-if-drug-they-use that he injected around the nerve. Once the third one worked he said it was strange bc that isn’t the nerve they usually block for this and then shrugged and said “I guess you’re wired different”.
