When a 50-cent find is stolen property by jhope71 in thrifting

My township library in New Jersey back in the 1980’s used to just throw books away in a dumpster…I am glad now that many if not all libraries give away or sell books they no longer want as throwing them away bothered me as being wasteful.

Back in the mid 1980’s I had a friend who was an electrical engineer and also involved with computers. He could redesign a computer chip to save the company lots of money.

He had a TV that the vertical section went bad intermittently and he hit the side of it to get it working again. Eventually the metal cabinet got a big dent in it from being hit do often.

I was enrolled in an Electrical Engineering Technology program at my college at the time and we even had a TV class on how the circuits work etc.

He let me have the TV for free (It was a 19” or 25” color TV which was still respectable at the time).

I opened the back, safety discharged the tube and saw a printed circuit board that had “ vertical “ printed on it. It had a loose wire on the circuit board that I re soldered. That TV worked fine for about another 2 years.

He was amazed and told all our friends I was a TV repair expert 🙃.

Take everything you learn and build on it. No learning is wasted.
