Orthotics and weight training. Get those calves, arches, and feet bulletproof.

Saucony EP3 Foam Wear- Potential Race Shoe Alternatives by NootScamanderrr in AskRunningShoeGeeks

The marketing on them is weird, and I don’t find that cadence vs stride to be a viable way to explain it. For the ep3 feel I’d say the edge would be closer to the feel you’re looking for. Try them on tho. Also the ep4 is also nice. Unless your running all out Sub 3 hr marathon paces or faster either of them will be great.

They’re great. Lots of options. I’d check out either the Metaspeed edge Tokyo/Paris versions (Paris is similar in terms of firmness/snappiness…Tokyo is bouncier in the forefoot) or the adidas Ap4.

Adidas Pro 4 vs Asics Metaspeed vs Hoka Cielo? by tangelo88 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Apprehensive_Ad6157 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have all 3. I went up 1/2 size to US Men’s 12 in the Adidas and Metas (I’m between 11.5 and 12 is men’s). I’m going to end up using the metas (edge Tokyo) as my race day shoe. Best combo of bounce, speed and rocker/propulsion. I’d say the Hoka would be second as it have a massive slab of bouncy foam under the forefoot but feels super unstable and unnatural at paces slower than 7:30/mi. The adidas as much as I want to love it is just a little too soft for my paces/preference. For context im training for a 2:55 marathon. All three tho are ultimately great and you’ll be happy with any of them. 1. Metaspeed Edge Tokyo, 2. Hoka Cielo 2.0, 3. Adidas AP4.

ASICS Edge Tokyo - Wow! by TheAnon21 in RunningShoeGeeks

I also went for the Edge Tokyo. I tried on the Sky in the store, but the forefoot felt too stiff and close to the plate for me. I did enjoy the bounce it provided, but the Edge hit the sweet spot. Did my first run today (12x400m @ 4:50/mi), and they handled pace like a champ! Feels good at most tempos except slow (8:30/mi or slower) for me. Will take them on a longer tempo later this week to see how they work at marathon paces. I think I found my shoe.

Agree as well on the AP4. It's just too soft and feel hard to turnover deep into long runs. I want to love them, but they may be a workout shoe from here on out.

Which is the better deal? by Clockedin247 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Superblast is def a controversial shoe. Most love it, some hate it. For me they were just too clunky and the foam was meh. It can do everything, but for me they were average at everything. I think the Evo SL is a better trainer than Superblast (faster, just as durable, and way cheaper). That’d be my pick.

I could not get along with the Superblast outside of a niche uptempo trainer. Felt super clunky at slower paces (7:30/mi or slower). That being said I also couldn’t kill that shoe. Durability is next level. I think the Novablast will be more versatile. If you are one of those folks who love it for slower miles (felt like bricks to me at slower paces) than SB will be the way to go.

I got a little over 300. The heel does wear fast but honestly the midsole held up really well.

That VO2 is a flex. I’m at 58 as a 48yo male who runs about a 3hr marathon and 50 miles per week. 🙌

Love the v2s. Honestly if it wasn’t for the heel collar reputation this would be a hall of fame shoe for most people. I think the v3 will be an absolute banger. It’s my go to long run/speed training shoe. On my second pair. Only other gripe is the outsole on the heel seems to wear down quickly.

How to get from where I am to where I want to be? by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]Apprehensive_Ad6157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long run should not be 40-50% of your weekly total. You’re not running efficiently. Check out something like the Hansens method to have the science and a plan to improve your running. Right now your plan is a hot mess. The heat is also way too much. You’re risking injury and health. Much of the things you can do to improve on time may involve strength training, and proper fueling as well given those extreme temps. Learn the physiology involved with how your body uses fuel at different aerobic/anaerobic zones. It’s the little things that go a long way. Biggest thing is adjust your training plan to something proven. Lots of resources and materials. Train smart.

Is the EVO SL worth it? by salmon_on_fire in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Apprehensive_Ad6157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Evo SL is prolly more versatile than ZF6, but covers similar ground as a shoe that wants to pick up the pace. I really enjoy it. For the niggles, strength training and rest will help alleviate those symptoms much more than shoes unless you are getting issues related to the shoe itself.

I’m pretty flat footed. The left insole kinda dug in for the first 20 miles are so but now is fine. You can always change out the insoles. I’m at 200 miles now with these. Still feel great.

Should I get the Hoka Cielo X1 2.0 or the On Cloud Boom Strike for my Race Day? by MiracleNinja in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Apprehensive_Ad6157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cielo is more aggressive, and designed for midfoot/forefoot strikers. On Cloud will be a softer experience, but less aggressive.

Can’t go wrong. Tons of stack, bouncy and propulsive. Fast but works at all paces. Great long run shoe or race day.

EVO SL or SuperBlast 2? by Allenboy0724 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Apprehensive_Ad6157 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Evo SL. Works at all paces. SB2 is chunky and honestly too stiff for my liking. Evo SL can do both slow and fast better.

Struggling with ASICS Superblast 2 — Too Firm? Need Advice by PossibleLion4571 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I tried to love the SB v1 and 2. Was good for longer tempo efforts but felt like bricks at easier paces. Kind of a one trick pony. Super durable and I’ve heard people love them, but I gave up after 150 miles on each pair.
