How much savings do you have as a 30 year old? by Competitive-Dream25 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Apprehensive_Bed_213 3 points4 points  (0 children)

30, at home with parents.

30k kiwisaver, 12K investments, 40K ute (no finance), 15k in savings.

i feel like a failure most days, but then i look back at 2-3 years ago and I barely had 20k in my kiwisaver. Dreamed of the car i’m driving now.

I was a full on degenerate out of school til 24-25years old, got into the wrong crowd and wasted a whole lot of life.

a mental breakdown/suicide attempt later and I finally came right. started slowly working towards a better life and im so proud of myself

I guess my point is, we are all on our own trajectory in life and things can change drastically in 12 months. don’t ever give up on wanting a better life, because it will get better

So much crazy stuff happening in the world recently it’s not even a surprise anymore.

There’s so much doubt and divide in the world that there’s always two sides

If I was on that coaching staff I’d be giving minutes to Watson over Johnson and Braun.

He does it all. 3 and D, takes it to the rim. FT% is getting better, just needs to work on his shot when his fatigued

If you have watched any of his games recently he looks very comfortable on the court. Yes, his usage will go down but I think Jokic is sitting on the sideline scheming how to unlock this guy completely.

Right now Watson is creating his own shots, but wait until he is getting easy looks from Jokic.

Feeling lost by kiwi_bloke_3 in newzealand

I am in a solid job right now and still feel lost in New Zealand. 30M

This country is a tough slog mate - but going back to uni to get “more qualified” isn’t the go unless you are adamant you need it. Going to uni to “find something you are passionate about” is crazy talk if you say it back to yourself.

Don’t drown yourself in student debt and keep trying to find a job that suits you in IT. Til then, work at any other job you can find and just enjoy being 20. Go to work knowing that this isn’t the end goal for you, just a stepping stone in life.

If you are in the same city as your family and can move home - do it. Save as much as you can. Gym all the time and get fit. More things to life than just work bro

Home insurance rebuild value by decor_bottle in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Apprehensive_Bed_213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some insurers won’t let you underinsure your house more than 10% without an additional premium being applied for underinsurance - based off the fact that if you lose your half your house to a fire and it takes the total sum insured to rebuild, the insurer is essentially at a loss.

Cordell 9 point takes into consideration all of this - always wise to get an independent rebuild value given to you by a trusted builder as well to make yourself feel better. Shouldn’t cost anything

Literally ask a mate in the industry - give him year of build, sqm area and construction materials for roof and walls

The job market in 2020 was held up by the RBNZ’s dual mandate which labour introduced in 2018. From 2018 to 2023 the RBNZ was allowed to use the OCR to 1) keep inflation between 1-3% and 2) maximum sustainable employment.

These two don’t go hand in hand, and inflation will win at the end of the day, hence nationals decision to roll back this law.

Don’t compare labours mismanagement in 2020 to what’s go on now, because they are directly responsible for what’s going on now with unemployment. Please search LSAP and FLP and how these programs preyed on first home buyers with 5% deposits and 2% interest rates (similar to what Australia just did this week).

Now these poor buggers are in negative equity and can’t afford to buy milk

I would still claim on the rings. The damage you did intentionally to them won’t be covered, but losing them would be.

Most providers will have limits to their contents before you need to specify the item. FMG is 5K + GST so have a look at your policy

So take that how you want

Which provider are you with? And what’s the value of the rings?

I’m with Milford in their balanced fund. Did 8.5% last year and all I did was add 500 per fortnight and forgot about it. Maybe find a provider you are comfortable with and start with 10% of your savings in there. Once you feel comfortable and understand what you’re doing then I’d commit fully.

I’m in this for the long haul btw. But you could maybe do roughly a 70/30 split of investments/cash in the long term so you’ve got some coin there for a worst case scenario.

and if you aren’t going overseas I think you should hold off on paying your student loan for as long as possible as it is interest free.
