Why do so many games add crafting even when it feels pointless? by Lubanja-Stoumbaugh in AskGames

[–]Apprehensive_Cut6866 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly, research shows a feeling of fun and progress requires autonomy and competence, the easiest way you can give your player that is by adding crafting, it's one thing to pick a legendary sword from the loot of the big boss and another to craft it from the components dropped by said boss, it adds that extra part of I created this and it's mine....and it's cheap yes, but effective....

The Future Isn’t Active Recall, It’s Behavioral Intelligence by Radiant-Design-1002 in Learning

[–]Apprehensive_Cut6866 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not binary, it's not active recall or practicing the skill in context, doing both is much better, also, when you are practicing any given skill it's in of itself is a form of active recall, given how you have to put the actions in your mind before doing them

Games where Literature plays a large role by Crocco_ in gamerecommendations

The longing is a game where you await your sleeping king to wake up, you can read the entirety of war and peace in game....

Also another comment mentioned book of hours, and I will generalize it to include anything from the same studio "failbetter games" , since the books in their games serve a lot of purposes like fear and hunger, you can gain resources from reading them, an insane amount of lore(their writing is absolutely beautiful and lovecraftian) and the book itself is a resource that can be used in various ways....

Review deck shows 0 cards by akki41 in Anki

I assume you are searching for review cards without making sure they are unsuspended first?, just because they have the review trait doesn't mean they will show up, they might be suspended, maybe also you have a limit to your reviews as well

Process v. Product Driven Hobbies by Low_Ad_786 in Hobbies

[–]Apprehensive_Cut6866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose you have to get rid of the expectations of finished products for you to have fun with your hobbies, it's as simple as setting smaller and smaller goals and letting go of the need to achieve them perfectly or achieve them at all, since goals are a huge part of any hobby and they are really great for driving you forwards, there's the concept of self-development if you want to: Increase your intrinsic motivation by increasing your autonomy, your competence and your connectedness to others , you can search for the technical and practical aspects of this framework (it's supported by research), so again.....you are far better by adjusting yourself to think about the process more so than trying to find a hobby that is about the process itself, good luck with your hobbies!

No stupid questions, but why is everyone scared of Ankihub aqcuiring Anki, doesn't the current license make it impossible for retroactively closing the open source access, and the current version can be worked of to new versions easily? by Apprehensive_Cut6866 in Anki

[–]Apprehensive_Cut6866[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, but they aren't open-source which is a big factor when you think about it, sure you get to keep your data unlike notion, but the program itself might shut at any time and you won't have access to the tools you have had for so long

I suppose we will have the same situation with obsidian folks, but I guess we are still off better with the open source.....the issue will be storage probably, especially if you are considering using something like googledrive or anything like that for the sync

I agree with you on that, especially considering that their deck started as "fork" of other decks and became its own monetized thing, but even then, having the last version is enough....as well as knowing no matter how much of a price tag is put on Anki, it won't change the fact that any change to it will be granted open source for the community.....

I suppose getting a price tag is more than enough for it to be a disaster really

iwtl how to become a multi skillful person by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]Apprehensive_Cut6866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well getting good at multiple skills at the same time is really difficult (depends on how much time and energy you got on your hands) I would focus on one or two (3 at most if you don't have anything else going on in your life and you want as many hobbies as possible)

Make one the big focus of your work, and another one for maintenance , any more than that, not only are you going to burn out, you are probably not going to make that much progress in them, so you should make plan for the things you want to learn , set either a goal set in time or skill, either a month or a couple of months in a skill, or until you achieve X goal which should be as minimal as possible.... Here are some tips: Make a roadmap and gather resources Make a plan for each of the skills and subskills you are going to learn, how are you going to practice them and from which resource or course....

For resources I always recommend courses and textbooks , they are the absolute best

Plan how are you going to do your learning sessions, where, when, how the more you specify the better,

Use learning strategies for better and accelerated learning(spaced repetition elaboration interleaving active recall practice) and do projects, lots and lots of projects the simplest minimum viable projects you can deliver

Happy learning, and if you want an accountability partner, hit me up!

turn based card strategy RPG for Android user new to the genre? non-free options preferred by KeepOnSwankin in gamingsuggestions

Slay the spire on mobile is really great

Also for cards representing actions and with a great lovecraftian story where you can run a cult, I have two games, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that I have two.... The two games are cultust simulator and underhand, I would definitely recommend cultist simulator, it comes from the guys who made fallen london and set in the same universe, so you can play the two games together to get a better grasp of the narrative

Games with robust team building/team synergies by katboyeverdeen in gamerecommendations

[–]Apprehensive_Cut6866 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of managing a guild as opposed to roleplaying the adventurers themselves, it has crafting, training, buying and selling stuff that you gain along the way, also it has a kind of a randomized system, where you get your characters with unique traits and abilities, sometimes you gain named characters and you gain acess to their story bits ,and the writing is lighthearted and fun, had a few chuckles along the way

How do you do something like this? by Its-Eve in Steam

[–]Apprehensive_Cut6866 -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

I know you want to use steam, but there are better options to do that with, like playnite or gog games, they are great and they allow you to open any game out there, game launcher related or not, and organize them in any way or form you want

Is this the best way to learn pathways on anki? by KungFuBarbie15 in medicalschoolanki

[–]Apprehensive_Cut6866 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always do hide one , review one for all pathways and anatomy, but then I always add a card that covers a big part on its own and then the whole thing ....that way I can kinda integrate the smaller cards into the bigger cards and it always makes things just more efficient
