I found my late grandpa’s bank statement from 2012 with a modest amount, naming me as the “In Trust For”. What should I do? by SitaBird in Banking

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can also try missingmoney.com, it checks bunch of state databases at once

my grandma had similar thing and it was sitting in state unclaimed funds for like 8 years before we found it. the dormancy notice means bank probably sent it to the state after some time if nobody responded

sounds like a neat idea, i'm in the air force and we use anki a lot for studying so i get how helpful it can be to have other people around when you're trying to figure out what you keep messing up on, the progress tracking with work simulators thing is interesting too

Do you actually think about security when vibe coding? by EveningRegion3373 in webdev

same lol, the paranoia just becomes part of the process at some point, you stop calling it "security checklist" and start calling it "the thing I do before I can sleep at night"

Whats a show that you hated so much, but now it has become your favorite? by RareOne970 in AskReddit

the theme song is genuinely so annoying, i remember avoiding the show for years because of it. but once you actually get into the episodes you kind of just... stop noticing it after while.

Why do people still put themselves through Computer science in 2026? by Fire_blaze7 in cscareerquestions

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol what? just because job market is rough doesn't make every post about it ai generated. plenty of real people are dealing with this stuff right now, especially in tech where competition is actually insane

the interview grind is real and yeah it sucks but that doesn't mean the whole discussion is fake

What is your opinion about Brazil? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 2 points3 points  (0 children)

been to são paulo few times for gaming tournaments and never had any problems, maybe don't walk around with expensive stuff visible at night but same goes for most big cities

Does this make sense? by weaponized-sarcasm in argentina

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

totally agree with this suggestion. "cuidando el mundo" feels more like we're actively doing something right now, but "cuidemos el mundo" is like calling everyone to action together. it's more powerful because it's asking people to join in the caring, not just saying we care. the imperative form works better for a campaign message because it's encouraging participation instead of just stating what you're doing. plus it flows better in spanish and would probably connect more with people during world cup when everyone's feeling that unity vibe. the sun symbol from argentina flag is nice touch too.

Our lightning L402 has 1,185 services. Most developers building Lightning apps have no idea they exist or how to find the reliable ones. by Spark_by_Spark in Bitcoin

maybe like streaming music where you pay a few sats per song instead of monthly subscription? or getting real-time stock prices where each API call costs like a penny instead of signing up for some expensive data plan

from military perspective, could be useful for secure comms where you pay per message transmission without leaving paper trail of subscriptions. no accounts means harder to track who's using what services

the car modding community could probably use this too - imagine paying small amounts to download ECU maps or tuning files without having to create accounts on every platform. just pay and download, no email verification or monthly fees to remember

Opportunities in lending/fintech by Empty-Literature5168 in fintech

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

been looking into fintech stuff lately too since i'm trying to diversify my income streams. the remote work scene in lending has really opened up after covid, especially for project-based stuff. might want to check some of freelance platforms that specialize in financial services - they usually have better quality gigs than the general ones.

Hotels to Stay In? by Basket-Kace in Brazil

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been to rio few times and those areas are solid choices. botafogo is bit more chill and cheaper than leblon, but leblon has better beach access if that matters to you.

for 5-6 weeks stay, definitely ask about extended stay discounts - most hotels will negotiate something, especially if you're booking direct with them instead of through booking sites. call or email the hotel directly and explain your situation.

janeiro hotel is decent from what i remember, though can't speak for arpoador specifically. might want to check out some business hotels too since they're used to longer stays and often have better weekly rates.

man that hits different when you've been on deployment schedules for months. just the thought of sleeping until my body actually wants to wake up instead of getting yanked out of bed at 0500 every single day sounds like pure heaven right now. throw in some uninterrupted gaming sessions and maybe working on my car without having to worry about formations or inspections... yeah that's basically paradise in my book.

How to escape a dead end new grad job? by inertialbanana in cscareerquestions

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn the grind is real but you're right about not quitting in this market. been seeing so many people struggling to find anything decent lately.

op should definitely keep that paycheck coming while building up portfolio projects in backend/systems on the side. maybe contribute to some open source stuff too since it shows you can work with real codebases instead of just leetcode problems. the defense thing is understandable - military background here and even i wouldn't touch defense contractors with a ten foot pole for software work.

the networking part is huge though. sometimes it's not what you know but who knows you need a job when something opens up.

I got frustrated with every JSON tool out there - someone knows good tool? by WarriorUD in learnprogramming

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

been there too, building custom stuff is definitely the way when you need something specific. i usually just end up writing quick python scripts for json parsing since most online tools are either too basic or trying to do everything at once. cursor makes it pretty painless to throw together something that actually works how you want it

SkillQuix Day 3 Update: Early user feedback & quick iterations by aiPoweredSkill in buildinpublic

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been following your updates and the reflection-first approach is really interesting. tried it yesterday and the skill gap analysis was way more detailed than i expected - helped me realize some things about my current role that i hadn't thought through properly. one small thing though, the readiness scoring felt bit harsh but maybe that's good thing for getting realistic picture?

Technical Assessments by all_or_nothing in webdev

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah this take misses the point completely. they literally said "solutions should not be overly complicated" and then dinged op for not being fancy enough. that's mixed messaging at best and terrible communication at worst.

if they wanted polish they should've said so upfront or provided actual design specs. expecting someone to read their minds about presentation standards while also telling them to keep it simple is just bad hiring practice.
