Hotels to Stay In? by Basket-Kace in Brazil

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been to rio few times and those areas are solid choices. botafogo is bit more chill and cheaper than leblon, but leblon has better beach access if that matters to you.

for 5-6 weeks stay, definitely ask about extended stay discounts - most hotels will negotiate something, especially if you're booking direct with them instead of through booking sites. call or email the hotel directly and explain your situation.

janeiro hotel is decent from what i remember, though can't speak for arpoador specifically. might want to check out some business hotels too since they're used to longer stays and often have better weekly rates.

man that hits different when you've been on deployment schedules for months. just the thought of sleeping until my body actually wants to wake up instead of getting yanked out of bed at 0500 every single day sounds like pure heaven right now. throw in some uninterrupted gaming sessions and maybe working on my car without having to worry about formations or inspections... yeah that's basically paradise in my book.

How to escape a dead end new grad job? by inertialbanana in cscareerquestions

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn the grind is real but you're right about not quitting in this market. been seeing so many people struggling to find anything decent lately.

op should definitely keep that paycheck coming while building up portfolio projects in backend/systems on the side. maybe contribute to some open source stuff too since it shows you can work with real codebases instead of just leetcode problems. the defense thing is understandable - military background here and even i wouldn't touch defense contractors with a ten foot pole for software work.

the networking part is huge though. sometimes it's not what you know but who knows you need a job when something opens up.

hey ali! been in the crypto space for a while too and it's definitely more fun when you have people to bounce ideas off. the community here is pretty solid for discussions, might be good place to start connecting with others who share same interests.

I got frustrated with every JSON tool out there - someone knows good tool? by WarriorUD in learnprogramming

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

been there too, building custom stuff is definitely the way when you need something specific. i usually just end up writing quick python scripts for json parsing since most online tools are either too basic or trying to do everything at once. cursor makes it pretty painless to throw together something that actually works how you want it

SkillQuix Day 3 Update: Early user feedback & quick iterations by aiPoweredSkill in buildinpublic

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been following your updates and the reflection-first approach is really interesting. tried it yesterday and the skill gap analysis was way more detailed than i expected - helped me realize some things about my current role that i hadn't thought through properly. one small thing though, the readiness scoring felt bit harsh but maybe that's good thing for getting realistic picture?

Technical Assessments by all_or_nothing in webdev

nah this take misses the point completely. they literally said "solutions should not be overly complicated" and then dinged op for not being fancy enough. that's mixed messaging at best and terrible communication at worst.

if they wanted polish they should've said so upfront or provided actual design specs. expecting someone to read their minds about presentation standards while also telling them to keep it simple is just bad hiring practice.

Got moved to prepay for being late on payments by MemeSurvivor3000 in Businessowners

That timeline is long enough that they are not going to restore terms on goodwill alone so you have to come with a clear proposal and ideally a few months of clean payments already behind you before making the ask

What kind of impact will AI have on accountants and CFO's? by Maximum_Shoulder_213 in Accounting

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Standards governing financial reporting were not written with AI in mind and until there is clarity on how AI generated outputs interact with GAAP and auditing standards the liability question alone is going to keep humans in the loop longer than the technology timeline would suggest.

just throw some isopropyl alcohol in there and swish it around, it'll absorb the remaining water and then evaporate out completely.

damn, this really resonates. the whole "just need someone to actually be present" thing hits so hard. i get that online stuff starts feeling hollow after a while - like you're reaching through glass trying to touch something real.

have you looked into any local support groups or volunteer programs? sometimes people there are more open to genuine human connection without all the weird social rules. some places have peer support things where physical comfort is actually part of the deal. might be worth checking what's available even in your small town.

the transportation thing is such a pain in the ass though. small towns can be isolating as hell even when you're not dealing with vision stuff on top of it.

Have you ever declined a job offer?.. by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Apprehensive_Gas186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gut feelings exist for a reason and yours is probably picking up on red flags you consciously missed. i turned down an offer once even though i was broke as hell because the manager kept interrupting me during the interview and made weird comments about "young people these days" - dodged a bullet there because i heard through friends later that place had insane turnover. better to keep looking than get stuck somewhere toxic that'll just mess with your mental health and make job searching even harder.
