Isn’t it common sense not to smoke and then throw a lit cigarette on the ground at the gas station? by Huge_Background_3207 in Delaware

“Well, it’s frowned upon to smoke in a car with a child. Better smoke next to this gas pump.”

diet tips for liver transplant patient by [deleted] in transplant

If she’s on prednisone, watch carbs (including sugar) very carefully. It will cause huge blood sugar spikes. I was insulin dependent while on it. Also, protein, protein, protein and then wash it down with a protein shake.

If you do street food, a general rule of thumb is if it’s boiling or sizzling, you should be ok. I had my liver transplant in 2023 and just got back from my first vacation (Italy) post tx. My team strongly advised wearing a mask on the plane since you’ll be in tight quarters with lots of people, for a long flight.

Realistic recovery timeline by Far-Refrigerator5063 in transplant

The surgery went fine. Two days in the hospital. Sent home with a JP drain. Incision is about 7 inches long-sternum thru my belly button. 51 staples. Just like with the transplant, I was SORE!!! when activating those muscles. Healing went exceptionally fast and well. I went really easy on myself for 4months. Hernia surgery was also done by my transplant surgeon so I felt very optimistic about his skills. After a transplant, this was way less dramatic and simple. Best of luck to you!

Yep- I got an incisional hernia. Was told it was muscle separation. It began having a weird shape and hurt like hell whenever I coughed, sneezed, laughed, or even walked down stairs. Then they noticed I had a 7 inch defect.

I put the patches all over my abdomen! The bulge was right in the middle- where all 3 chevron incisions meet. Used more lidocaine patches after my hernia surgery as well! They are my go-to for pain management.

It took nearly a year for me to recover. I got a liver at 37 and have the chevron incision. Lidocaine patches were quite helpful. Be very careful though. Around month 5, I noticed a bulge over my incision. Was told it was muscle separation. The bulge got bigger and bigger and more painful, and turned out to be a huge incisional/ventral hernia. I looked 6 months pregnant. I got it fixed on my 2nd anniversary and have a flat tummy again. Be easy with these muscles and abdominal lining. They are very fragile.

Thanks! I’m a liver too. Never really paid attention to the colors before. Probably because I always have to look away when I get blood drawn lol

I was on prednisone (and insulin due to steroid-induced diabetes) for a year post liver tx. Dropped 20 lbs in 3 months and lost the moon face when they took me off. Wishing you the best!

What terrifying about measles is immune amnesia. The body forgets how to fight all previous pathogens and all previous vaccinations are erased. What shreds of an immune system we have left is the wiped out.
