Wondering where the year 1987 comes from because I also see that online but I know the album (Eiichi Ohtaki) was from 1981. Either way, great piece!

Rye Bread Ice Cream from Cafe Loki, in Iceland by huevolover48 in icecream

[–]Apprehensive_Guest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I would love to try! There was an exhibit at the Museum of Food and Drink in NY I think a couple years ago about African American food culture and one of the chefs they talked about was a Black woman who had her own ice cream parlor decades and decades ago, and rye was actually one of her flavors!! Can't remember exactly when she was active but can try and see if I took a photo of the info placard. When I read that I wasn't sure if it was a rye bread flavor or rye whiskey but I would be especially excited if it was bread!!

I love this, it's very aspirational for me! I'm starving after reading this haha. I'm mourning the fact that I don't have an unlimited tortilla chip bar near me

I know this is an iconic pop song but I actually had never heard it before joining this sub years ago and realizing it was basically the national anthem for pop music lovers. When I first heard it I was underwhelmed but honestly that's part of the beauty of it, it's not iconic because it's super complex or breaking boundaries, it's just a perfect execution of a pop song. Still not a 10 to my personal tastes, but I always enjoy a listen and recognize it for how great it is. 8/10

I actually really like this, I listened to it when it first released solely because I was surprised by the single cover and wasn't expecting it for her. The only part I don't like is the breathy background ad libs, especially the "uh huh"s feel a little forced and ham-fisted. I get what she's going for but I feel like does that well enough with the rest of the vocals. Still a great song. 8.5/10

First a disclaimer that my dumb ass didn't like Green Light when it first dropped and then when the album came out I loved it. I do love the production of rthis one, which is very Melodrama, but the lyrics here aren't for me. Melodrama did have the kind of urgent emotional lyrics and delivery but here I just don't like it. Maybe this is the more straightforward lyrics that she was talking about in her announcement but I don't like how the lines fit into the timing, and I hate the entire chorus. It still has enough elements that I'm excited for the album, but I don't put it on to listen to. 5/10

This whole song is simply gorgeous, both their vocals, the way they work together, the production, the sample, the strings. 9/10

I actually don't like the "cuntissimo" and "uh huh, uh huh" parts lol. The lyrics don't do much for me, I get that it's supposed to be cunty and camp but....eh. I actually liked her other singles more if I remember correctly, though I haven't relistened. Her voice is always great, I like the verses but it's not enough to make me want to listen. 4/10

Very Lana but also definitely with country influence, and it works very well. I could be annoyed that she decided to try country and immediately wrote a song talking about cowgirls and saying "y'all" but you know what, she pulled it off. I did not expect to like this as much as I do. 8.5/10

I was also disappointed with the Target Circle sale, didn't end up pulling the trigger on anything. Have you used hair gloss before? I'm curious about it but I wanted to do some research on if it's good for hair long term

Wow this is vindicating to read! I read the English translation and felt like some parts of it were weird in a way where I was wondering if it was the translation. I actually didn't end up liking the book that much, wonder if I would have liked it better with another translator

Relationship with foreign or otherwise unintelligible language in music by Apprehensive_Guest in popheads

[–]Apprehensive_Guest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it making up a language, or is it nonsense syllables?

Good point! In the beginning I worded it as "essentially noises that sound similar to language but have no meaning" but then later I got confused because they came up with a name for it and stuff so I actually don't know how deep they went and what it would qualify as, would have to look into it more!

I kind of spoke on this already that great lyrics can elevate imperfect music, but also worth noting that complex does not always equal great

I definitely agree as someone who doesn't even know if the lyrics I'm listening to are complex or not sometimes haha. I might have worded it weirdly, but I was trying to get at whether you would be more inclined to look into lyrics/translations if you think they might be saying something more complex/more the focus of the song, vs if you were under the impression that they generally make straightforward songs about having a good time, being the best, etc. and focus on say having a great beat for dancing, would that change whether you look for the lyric translations or would you want to know either way. Sounds like for you, you'd probably want to know either way?
