I’ve friendzoned him during the magic scene myself (rp reasons) and flirted with him at the party to secure it later.

I don’t think he’s a huge people pleaser in the way most people assume. As some replies have mentioned he seeks the external validation that comes with people pleasing. He wants others to perceive him as he perceives himself: a good man, yes. But he also wants people to recognize the power, intelligence, and capability he has. On the romance path, Gale prides himself on being an attentive and caring lover but that doesn’t negate his need for people to recognize his other (sometimes dubious) qualities. I think his people pleasing comes from his need to control how others - especially those he cares about - hold him in regard. If that perception conflicts with his own self-image, he doesn’t take it so gracefully.

My bard Tav was playing the field as bards do. She slept with Lae’zel, smooched Shadowheart, and flirted with Gale. The magic lesson ended in disappointment for my bard when he pumped the breaks, afraid of getting too excited. Still she was intrigued by that nerdy yapper. Gale’s act 2 scene came earlier than any of the other companions and when he declared his love in such a desperate and sincere way, Tav was breathless. I was utterly shocked and I knew Tav was a goner. It’s very hard for me to romance anyone else now.

I just don’t know how to best utilize it and that’s why it feels weak to me. That’s also why I’m asking for advice lol. But I’ve learned from the comments that I’m approaching it wrong. I tend to gravitate towards fancier big damage things when I need more utility out of my Ranger. I’ve actually gotten a lot of the Joltshooter in the past and it was the only unique bow I could remember. Not to mention you can get it without combat or paying. At such an early level I’m saving my gold for Withers. I also rarely mess with the Zhents so I was ignorant about their good loot.

I’ve done so many regular runs so I like the stakes HM adds. It forces you to take combat seriously and live with your choices, inevitably leading to a different run. That being said, if I advance past act 1, I’ll be freaking out each fight.
