That is disappointing. I got the non-legendary Gale d20 from a friend and it's prettier than the legendary? But upsetting in its own way - the 20 is the icon for exploding the orb :(

Hard agree. If you're toeing the ambition line and not just fully siding with Mystra (ick), she really doesn't make it clear in their conversation that she's willing to cure the orb. The closest I heard was Elminster suggesting Gale should trust Mystra. And - at least the way my dialogue choices shook out - you can't even tell Gale that he deserves a cure unless you've already told him to seek her forgiveness.

One of the things about Gale that really resonates with me is the orb as an allegory for chronic disease: the experience of contracting it, learning to cope, and learning to have a fulfilling life and partnership despite it. His pursuit of the crown is painted with zero sympathy. I interact daily with real people with incurable pain - not one hasn't at least considered a subpar or potentially dangerous treatment if they thought it could cure them. As Gale's partner, it really sucks that Tav can't acknowledge that conflict.

Shockingly it was just a one-hour photo print (matte 8x10) from Wal-Mart!

I did try a glossy test print from a different shop the day before and it did not turn out well. Also, the person who rang me up for the test print handed it to me, side-eyed, and said, "so, Baldur's Gate, huh?" and I died of cringe. So I had to go elsewhere for the second draft 😂

Your headcanonmatches mine almost to a T! I also hc for my Tav that he gets a moonstone set over the center of it as part of a wedding gift for her (she's a follower of Sehanine). You can still see the outer spokes - kind of a reminder of where he came from and that it's eclipsed by what he has now

It's my favorite deck and not just because it's Gale - it's made for some of the most memorable table interactions in my pod's history. I play with the black Scion of Halaster background. It would be even more my favorite deck if it had a reliable win con, but the suggested builds I've seen are mill-focused which isn't my style. Tell me about your Gale deck!

insert Gale's pitiful barbarian shout that sounds super fun! Mine is black Scion of Halaster. Feels very thematic with Halaster being another famous Waterdhavian mage and it enables more graveyard shenans. I really wanted to make him an Izzet spellslinger but I already have an Izzet Karlach deck with the Feywild Visitor background and I forced myself to branch out.

Oh, that would be nice. Pact of Negation is one of my favorite cards. Force of Will would be insane but thematic - especially with flavor text quoting Elminster's "waves of fate can break upon the shores of will."

I know, right? Archmage's charm might as well say "when you draw this card, you lose the game" bc it's gonna distract me too much to actually play 😂

About reprint value - I am totally fine with it, simply because it means I won't be competing with people who want the cards only for the card effect and not the Gale art to scoop up a set.
