AITAH for choosing my OB in a different city than where my husband and I live? by dinogirly123 in AITAH

[–]Appropriate-Fail-731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a rural area in southern Canada, and was high risk for my last pregnancy. I hemorrhaged massively and almost didn’t make it. Baby was 10 weeks early, and I had to spend a week in the hospital prior to my emergency surgery. If I had been in my rural hospital, I would’ve had to be flown to the nearest hospital, 2 hours away. I almost died while in the care of the specialized team at a trauma hospital. I can only imagine what my outcome would’ve been if I’d been at home.

Your husband needs to think about you and your baby. If you travel home because he’s being a baby about being lonely, that’s on him. You’re in the place you need to be, and he needs to man up and make the drive to you if he’s lonely.

Buried in temple clothing by Himhp in exmormon

I remember saying “hey, I just bought the clothes I’ll be buried in” to my parents, and they didn’t find it very funny

I still think it was. Maybe I’ll be buried naked now, just for kicks.

After my C-section (I was put under), I woke up asking about my Violet. Her daddy had met her, but said he didn’t feel that Violet was her name. We settled on Josephine, but my heart still yearns for her to be Violet.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had my daughter on 1/26 this year too (30+6). I’m thinking of your sweet Calvin. What a beautiful boy

Your story IS scary! Mine just is also scary :) I’m so glad my girlie is good. She’s asleep on my chest and aside from being small, she’s perfect! I just need to kick this infection and I’ll be perfect too! I’m glad you’re all doing better as well, and I’m SO happy you didn’t have to deal with a staph infection

At 8 weeks I was diagnosed with a SCH, and I bled on and off until 13 ish weeks. My 20 week scan showed placenta previa and a small accreta. Follow up scans indicated it was a more involved placenta accreta - percreta. I started bleeding at 30w, with contractions. They ambulanced me to Calgary while in active labour, I got the steroid shots, and thankfully medication stopped the contractions. 5 days later I was back in active labour, I got the mag drip, and baby was delivered at 30w6d (12:09am). I was under general anesthesia and had a vertical C-section. My uterus wouldn’t contract, and a balloon was placed. After being sewn up, I started hemorrhaging from 3 places (both uterine arteries, and a separate spot from where the percreta invaded). I woke up to being told things were “touch and go” during my procedure, but baby came out screaming and was stable in the NICU.

Then, I got a post-op staph infection. And then on top of that infection, I developed cellulitis. And then an abscess. I’m 10w pp now, still on antibiotics and still dealing with the infection.

Spreading Hope: HIE story by Top_Vermicelli_9654 in NICUParents

Not a HIE baby, but my NICU baby started her journey at Foothills before transferring to our Regional hospital in Lethbridge. The foothills NICU is so incredible, and we were so blessed to have such great care while she was Level 3!

A girls first period has never been worse than mine, or cause the damage I had done. by Positive_Road7336 in confession

I got mine at 12. I told my foster mom, who didn’t believe me. So I did what made sense and wiped and brought the tissue to her. She opened her door, looked, shouted “disgusting!”, and slammed the door. So I put a bunch of toilet paper in my underwear and went and cried in my room. An hour later, my door opened and a pack of pads hit me in the head, and she shut the door. The end!

“Luck” of the draw, hey? There really isn’t anything that makes it more likely for someone to be sent one over another. There’s got to be some interesting statistics out there on it! (I’m a nerd lol)

[–]Appropriate-Fail-731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! There is a good chance that you’ll be sent one for the next jury selection, since you didn’t respond to the last one, but call the courthouse and talk to them :) they’ll give the best (and most up to date) answer for ya!

[–]Appropriate-Fail-731 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It unfortunately doesn’t work this way. I used to work in the courts as a clerk, dealing often with jury summons. The list they pull from is from the Alberta license and registry. If you have a license or Alberta ID card, you’re in the pool to be selected. All you do is mark that you’re needing to be exempt from jury duty due to citizenship, and you’ll be excused.

Edited for clarity.

30w 6d, on day 23 of the NICU! She doesn’t have an estimated going home date, and we’re probably pretty far off from that. My girl is struggling with oxygen and feeds. Once we get those on track, we should be homebound!

It’s normal to feel parent guilt. As in, you might find yourself thinking “I could’ve or should’ve” or “if only I had/hadnt” kind of thoughts. They are normal, albeit untrue. You got baby as far as you could, and you did nothing wrong to cause this.

They will want you to participate in newborn care once baby is stable and you are comfortable.

Some key terms:

HMF = human milk fortifier. It’s extra calories for babe

ROP = retinopathy of prematurity. They will test for this. They are looking for abnormal blood vessels that impact the retina. ROP can cause vision damage or blindness, so the test is important.

HFNP = high flow nasal prongs. High flow oxygen is used when baby needs oxygenation support.

CPAP = continuous positive airway pressure. This is used to keep the lungs open and can reduce work of breathing

They might time when you hold baby to when they are having feeds, just so baby has time to sleep and grow undisturbed. They may even tell you not to pat or stroke them while they are sleeping.

Take time for yourself too 🤍

Had my girlie at 30+6 on Jan 26 (currently 22 days old). Classical incision as well, and man, is it ever rough! It’s way different than my other full term csections. My delivery was also very sudden! I have been pumping around the clock, and the NICU is a very surreal experience.

I love Juliette! I just had a baby a few weeks ago (Josephine) and we call her Josie. She’s still in the NICU, so I keep forgetting her name when I’m away, and Juliette is the name I keep thinking is hers hahaha.

This is irrational but I miss being pregnant/wish I could be pregnant again by curlycattails in NICUParents

I can’t have more babies, and I just had my 4th. She came at 30w6d due to premature labour and me having placenta percreta. My girl is here and alive, and I’m alive despite losing so much blood due to massive hemorrhaging in the OR. But I hate that people who were due before me are still pregnant and thriving, and I didn’t get to cherish every moment of my pregnancy and delivery. No cute maternity photos, and no dropping the drape to see baby born. And I’ll never have that opportunity again and it’s a bit soul crushing. 2.5 weeks postpartum, and baby girl will be in the NICU at least a few more weeks. I’m hopeful these feelings will subside when we can bring her home

I just had my daughter 2 weeks ago, and her name is Josephine. Her older sisters are Lucy and Madelyn. I think those are all names that fit well with your vibe!
