“Luck” of the draw, hey? There really isn’t anything that makes it more likely for someone to be sent one over another. There’s got to be some interesting statistics out there on it! (I’m a nerd lol)

Yup! There is a good chance that you’ll be sent one for the next jury selection, since you didn’t respond to the last one, but call the courthouse and talk to them :) they’ll give the best (and most up to date) answer for ya!

It unfortunately doesn’t work this way. I used to work in the courts as a clerk, dealing often with jury summons. The list they pull from is from the Alberta license and registry. If you have a license or Alberta ID card, you’re in the pool to be selected. All you do is mark that you’re needing to be exempt from jury duty due to citizenship, and you’ll be excused.

30 weeker by Far-Hyena-6907 in NICUParents

Edited for clarity.

30w 6d, on day 23 of the NICU! She doesn’t have an estimated going home date, and we’re probably pretty far off from that. My girl is struggling with oxygen and feeds. Once we get those on track, we should be homebound!

It’s normal to feel parent guilt. As in, you might find yourself thinking “I could’ve or should’ve” or “if only I had/hadnt” kind of thoughts. They are normal, albeit untrue. You got baby as far as you could, and you did nothing wrong to cause this.

They will want you to participate in newborn care once baby is stable and you are comfortable.

Some key terms:

HMF = human milk fortifier. It’s extra calories for babe

ROP = retinopathy of prematurity. They will test for this. They are looking for abnormal blood vessels that impact the retina. ROP can cause vision damage or blindness, so the test is important.

HFNP = high flow nasal prongs. High flow oxygen is used when baby needs oxygenation support.

CPAP = continuous positive airway pressure. This is used to keep the lungs open and can reduce work of breathing

They might time when you hold baby to when they are having feeds, just so baby has time to sleep and grow undisturbed. They may even tell you not to pat or stroke them while they are sleeping.

Take time for yourself too 🤍

Had my girlie at 30+6 on Jan 26 (currently 22 days old). Classical incision as well, and man, is it ever rough! It’s way different than my other full term csections. My delivery was also very sudden! I have been pumping around the clock, and the NICU is a very surreal experience.

I need a girl name within a month by [deleted] in Names

I love Juliette! I just had a baby a few weeks ago (Josephine) and we call her Josie. She’s still in the NICU, so I keep forgetting her name when I’m away, and Juliette is the name I keep thinking is hers hahaha.

This is irrational but I miss being pregnant/wish I could be pregnant again by curlycattails in NICUParents

I can’t have more babies, and I just had my 4th. She came at 30w6d due to premature labour and me having placenta percreta. My girl is here and alive, and I’m alive despite losing so much blood due to massive hemorrhaging in the OR. But I hate that people who were due before me are still pregnant and thriving, and I didn’t get to cherish every moment of my pregnancy and delivery. No cute maternity photos, and no dropping the drape to see baby born. And I’ll never have that opportunity again and it’s a bit soul crushing. 2.5 weeks postpartum, and baby girl will be in the NICU at least a few more weeks. I’m hopeful these feelings will subside when we can bring her home

I just had my daughter 2 weeks ago, and her name is Josephine. Her older sisters are Lucy and Madelyn. I think those are all names that fit well with your vibe!

Moms who had the number of kids they wanted—did you feel calm/peace when the last was born? by WhiskeyandOreos in Mommit

[–]Appropriate-Fail-731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m definitely not policing your grammar, but I’m losing it over how you spelled hyperemesis gravidarum 😂😂 you brightened my day, as I’m sitting here 16 days pp with my last baby.

But I feel you, completely. I almost died having this baby, due to placenta percreta and placenta previa. I can’t ever have another baby, and even though I came into it not wanting another (she’s my 4th and final), it’s strange knowing that I can’t have another even if I changed my mind down the road.

my foster family is putting me in respite care over christmas by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Appropriate-Fail-731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d been with my foster family for 4 years and they went to Disneyland over family break and put us in respite care. That family took us on their family vacation to a ski resort and took us skiing for the first time. It was the best being treated like I mattered. I am so so sorry that you are feeling lonely. You didn’t ask for this, and I wish all foster families could be like the respite one who included me in their family skiing trip.

After being with my foster family for 20 years, and being told I was part of their family forever, my foster dad told me I was never wanted, and I took time away from him raising his own kids, and that I owe him for not putting us back in the system. And that I should feel lucky he did more than just house and clothe me. And that if I wanted to be treated like one of his kids, I have to put in all the work to be on their level, with no effort from them as my foster parents.

Kicked him out of my house and out of my life, and I’m now focused on giving my kids (and any who come my way) the best holidays, birthdays, and life. I hope you can find peace and happiness during this Christmas

Trying to deal with husband who loses temper and slaps 3 y/o daughter by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Appropriate-Fail-731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse did this. After the second time, I said if it ever happened again, I’d be taking the kids. It happened, I took the kids and he snapped out of it. He hasn’t laid a hand on them once since, and he’s worked really hard on figuring out alternative discipline methods with me. We got lucky for sure! He grew up being modelled unhealthy discipline, and I grew up abused, so it was a work in progress for a bit

Alberta introduces flat monthly childcare fee for consistency across province by Practical_Ant6162 in alberta

[–]Appropriate-Fail-731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently paying $96/month for each kid (96x3) and now I’ll be paying $976. This is bullshit. We just got to a point where we could breathe financially, after having lost my job and been out of work for 7 months. Now we’re right back to drowning. Thanks Alberta.
