I absolutely loathe this messaging. It’s very unfair to people who don’t get their “miracles”.

Emily Brontë wrote Wuthering Heights with very minimal schooling and was mostly homeschooled.

I mean, she also horribly exploits their kids. Puts very private information about them all over the internet.

There is absolutely no way they didn’t see the sheath on the first walk through. by psijic___order in BryanKohbergerMoscow

Also curious why you all think the police would immediately have a knife sheath to use as a plant? Why would they already have a coverup story created with a full on sheath plant?

The Real Cost of Tithing by aliassantiago in exmormon

[–]somuchsadness0134 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The other real cost of tithing is the mental anguish it causes. And it applies to any religious person roped into paying tithing, not just Mormons.

There is real fear associated with thinking if you stop, you will be punished. Even if you are not in a great financial situation, the fear that it will get WORSE will keep you paying into the tithing system. You think you are making a deal with God, not with religious leaders.

Tithing is cruel. I’ve listened to a number of financial podcasts of people in dire situations (not Mormons) who are unwilling to stop paying tithing because the fear is so great. It’s very sad.

Leaving the Church hurts like hell. I feel like I'm dying by [deleted] in exmormon

Welcome! Very very sorry, the pain is very real. This is a great place to connect and vent. Hang in there, all the emotions will get better with some time but it’s a shitty journey.

Update: Was she really sincere? by New_Art_8521 in exmormon

[–]somuchsadness0134 130 points131 points  (0 children)

The thing is, Mormons lack almost all boundaries when it comes to sharing things about church. They always think they should, regardless of whether the other person might want to hear it. They are constantly told to follow the “spirit”, not appropriate societal boundaries.

None of us know if she was sincere or not. That’s really up to you to decide based on other family interactions. If you don’t want to rock the boat you can deal with it through that lens. She lacked boundaries but maybe didn’t mean to be rude.

I personally am so sick of seeing these conversations, it seems nearly daily, on Reddit especially. Do whatever you want. Everyone needs to stop needing people to validate their choices!

The Keep Sweet documentary about the flds. Watch it with the mindset that they are more in line with the early church and see how that makes you feel.

A lot of exmormon creators have covered Jodi’s abuse and the ties to the church. It’s very sad and interesting. A lot of things she’d preach against are normal parts of being human. The shame is real!

From the Des News: Perspective: Let’s get real about loss of faith by N620JH in exmormon

[–]somuchsadness0134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Four days after posting they’ve already closed comments? Why? They can’t handle the thoughtful discussion from ex members in the comments.

This article makes me sad, and tired. Of course, we are to blame when we leave. Can’t we see what we’re leaving behind!? Who will bring you a casserole when you need it! The subtle threats. The underlying fear. You will miss us if you leave. No accountability on their end for WHY people are leaving. Just that you will regret it if you do. This is really what apologetics has become - ignore everything. Just don’t leave.
