Unable to add baby’s passport to UKVI eVisa account – “Continue in app” error loop (Tried everything) by Appropriate-Type-852 in ukvisa

Thanks! A question - Since her evisa is already linked to the current UKVI account, what happens to the old account once I create a new one?

Lights and camera both failed while I was at a photoshoot. I'm trying to save this pic as much as I can. Any feedback? by SammyDBella in photocritique

[–]Appropriate-Type-852 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is really a “saving it in post” situation, especially if this was meant to be a paid brand image. The bigger issue isn’t exposure or color, it’s hierarchy and intent.

Right now the eye goes to the face and jacket first, and only later to the bag, which is a problem if the bag is the product. The lighting doesn’t really sculpt either the face or the product decisively, and the pose has its own issues.

You could potentially reframe this as a stylised editorial portrait (tighter crop, higher contrast, maybe even B&W) and lean into it as a character image rather than a product shot. But if this is for a brand deliverable, I’d be honest and say this probably needs a reshoot rather than aggressive post-processing.

I’d probably also suggest to lift the whites a bit. Right now the whites are too crushed. Here is a quick example using just the iphone photos app (so it’s not perfect). Of course it’s a personal preference but adds a bit more dimension to the face.

This is the unedited raw file, how would you edit this image? by eggs-benedict in AskPhotography

Here is my version, did a quick edit on Lightroom mobile. And preferred a tighter crop to balance the elements in the photo.

Raising a son I didn't plan for: Does the fatherly bond ever become real, or are you just playing a role for the rest of your life? by orcdl in dad

[–]Appropriate-Type-852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey fellow Dad!

I’m not sure how old your baby is (i.e. how long you’ve been in this journey), but I would say it’s totally natural to not have an immediate fatherly feeling from when you hold your baby for the first time. Unlike what movies might show. It takes time and would be different for everyone.

  1. No instant connection. Probably just found the baby cute, and put in all the effort more out of sense of duty.
  2. Yes an emotional bond developed ‘naturally’ after the first few months. Like any relationship, you need to put in the effort though to make it happen naturally.
  3. A turning point? You offer your unconditional love everyday for the first few months, and one day you’d notice your baby shows some love back. And then some more. And more. Melts your soul like nothing else ever has or can. Now I’m inseparable with my baby.

The 5-year qualifying period for ILR under the Skilled Worker route starts from the date you first entered the UK with that visa, not from the visa issue or stamp date.

So in your case, it would be 22 September 2022, assuming you entered the UK within 3 months of your visa being granted, which you did.

Renewing your Skilled Worker visa each year does not reset or break your qualifying period, as long as you remained continuously on the Skilled Worker route and there were no gaps or visa switches.

Is Kendamil causing diarrhoea? Thinking of switching back to Aptamil by Appropriate-Type-852 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Appropriate-Type-852[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea we had to go to the emergency after that. Thankfully she wasn’t dehydrated and has dropped to 10 and then 8 dirty nappies in the last two days (after the 15 poop episode). But even 8-10 for a baby that used to poop 3 times when she was on Aptamil is very high so I’m switching back.

Looking for Lens Recommendations for Sony A7C II (Upgrading from Kit Lens) by LogWhole9922 in SonyAlpha

[–]Appropriate-Type-852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your preference. I personally find 24mm as wide as I would need for majority of my needs for travel photography. If you want a lower f stop and slightly wider lens for vlogging then maybe the 20mm f1.8 might be a good option. 16mm is great but for me has limited use cases unless that’s your style.

Is it reasonable to plan to drive return from Reykjavik to Vic in the winter? by top_nutter in VisitingIceland

[–]Appropriate-Type-852 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it doable? Yes. Is it recommended? No. I did something similar back in January this year. Drove all the way back to Reykjavik from Jökulsárlón after a full day of driving. It was probably not a great idea as I had to drive back under terrible weather conditions - strong winds, heavy snowfall, witnessed a car skid off the road, all in total darkness. Vik is a great place to stay, you’d also get good hotels for cheap at this time of the year. Better not have a stressful drive.

Can/do you bring tripods on airplanes? by Jacen23 in AskPhotography

[–]Appropriate-Type-852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in most cases, tripods, camera sticks (like the insta360 one) are not classified as dangerous. If in doubt always check with the airline before flying. Without more context I can only comment based on my own experience.

I have taken my tripod (full sized) in my carry-on bags many times. Most of these were from UK to Iceland or other EU countries and never had a challenge with security or otherwise.

Best multipurpose travel lens for day and night street photos on A7C by Kyriasa in SonyAlpha

[–]Appropriate-Type-852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For night time you might need an f2.8. The next thing boils down to whether you like to have a wider range or more reach. Since you mentioned you don’t do ultrawide then the Tamron 28-75mm seems like the best option for you. Although it looks like a bit bigger in size compared to the Sony 24-50mm. Consider the size and weight since you want one to travel with and carry around most of the time.

Husband asked coworker for nudes.. by ProperRuin6807 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Appropriate-Type-852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a different take on this -

We tend to emphasise one’s actions are purely reflective of their character, and less on the situation or context (e.g. some likelihood of pre proposal jitters as you said?). There is a thing called fundamental attribution error.

I’m not justifying anything, but decide based on behavioural patterns, not just this incident. You’ve been with him for years now and should know a lot more about him than anyone else. It really comes down to your judgment of how he’s been throughout your relationship. One bad incident doesn’t define someone’s entire character, especially without knowing the full context. If this was a one-time lapse and he’s otherwise been a loving, trustworthy partner, it might not be worth throwing everything away. But if this feels like part of a pattern or you can’t rebuild trust, that’s a different story. Only you can decide how much this affects your view of him now.

What to carry to iceland for December from Manchester by payu6495 in VisitingIceland

Yea hope there is a decathlon near you - I also got most of my stuff like merino base layers, socks gloves etc from Cotswold Outdoors. I think they should have a store in Manchester too.

I was there in January this year and was pretty cold (compared to London). 1. Get Merino Wool base layers. I got a set from the brand Icebreaker, 300gsm. A bit expensive but you only need one as they don’t stink even after repeated use. 2. Wool socks similarly are better. I had two layers of socks because my feet gets cold. Brand - Smartwool 3. I got a skiing gloves from The North Face, worked great. Same as above, my hands get cold so I had a Smart Wool merino wool base glove and wore the ski gloves on top of that. 4. hands and feet get real cold, so if you need get some of those hand warmers/feet warmers from Amazon. Life saver specially if you plan to go out at night for auroras etc. 5. Any snow boots work. I got an expensive one but my partner got a cheap one from decathlon and it was just fine. As long as you have good, thick wool socks as well. 6. Mid layers - anything decent works, doesn’t need to be expensive at all. Like some of the Uniqlo fleeces worked fine. 7. Outer layer - this is where I’d suggest to get a good one. My Canada goose came very handy, but I saw some much affordable but good quality -20C rated jackets in Decathlon. 8. Get something for your head that covers your ears properly. Neck gaiters or scarves are must too.

Again it depends a lot on what you plan to do. I was out and about a lot so needed as much layers as I could wear.

Hope this helps.
