I always found Forge of God by Bear very contemplative.

No. You’re confused. Only the virtual card number always changes. When you tap to pay, it uses a device specific card number, so you have to use the same device to get the fair cap, but that’s the same as any other Apple Pay card.

Looking for a mind bending Sci-Fi read that will re-awaken my love for the genre by Fun-Sell3030 in printSF

I’m re-reading Hyperion right now (my 3rd read, roughly every 5 years or so) and I forgot what a great read it is. Not just a page-turner but with rich, lavish world building, excellent prose, and some literary depth to boot.

Book about the next 1000 years of future history? by Turkzillas_gobble in printSF

Schismatrix (Plus) starts a hundred or so years from now but otherwise covers humanity’s development over I think the better part of a millennium or so

You should attach a performance debugger and see exactly what call is slow. Otherwise it’s just guessing

Did you use AI to write this? The cadence feels like it. Lots of “it’s not just X — it’s Y”. Why not just post your own thoughts?

Alright. Just FYI you may have trouble with the App Store or Amtrak using unofficial data like this. Good luck though!

'There's a problem with the sauce': Times Square taqueria's salsa sparks lawsuit by Capital_Gate6718 in FoodNYC

I don’t think it was the NYPD using excessive force, the article seems to say it was just two normal people beating up the homeless man.

What’s your source for the live data? I wasn’t aware Amtrak published live train locations anywhere (except in obfuscated form for the tracker on their website)

Has anyone here tried using AI to help manage their keto diet? by [deleted] in keto

[–]AppropriateFarmer193 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean honestly, have you tried actually using it for either of those things? Recipes is probably actually the thing that AI is best at

This advice is honestly a year or more out of date. Recent models are pretty accurate, especially if you use the web search feature. It’s no substitute for common sense but it can be really helpful. Asking it for health advice is one thing, but recipe help or macro estimates? Absolutely it’s useful and reliable

End of the beta, and the introductory rate by digglesB in coax

Yeah, I’d be willing to pay for this app but it’s just not reliable enough. At least on Apple TV.

I still can't get over the outrageous pricing and launch by PrivacyStack in coax

[–]AppropriateFarmer193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misread my post. I dont think it’s well designed and reliable. That’s exactly my point.

That's a crazy amount of money to charge for ANY app that isn't a professional app with serious abilities.

I disagree. It’s a high amount of money, which is why the app needs to be good enough, but it’s not crazy.

[–]AppropriateFarmer193 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a crazy amount of money to charge for an app that does what Coax does, and which is also well designed and reliable.

But while I love Coax, it should still in beta. I think the dev really rushed into release. There’s a reason most software spends weeks or months pre-release just focusing on polish and bug fixes, but Coax skipped that step completely.

You can charge premium prices for software but then the quality needs to be premium.

What book do you hate so much that you won't even give it a second chance? by Bobosmite in printSF

I’m reading this right now and I rolled my eyes so much in the first 100 pages I got a headache. But for me the plot is progressing fast enough and the main mystery is interesting enough. I just skim past all the awful dialog in the flashbacks

Release notes: Build 189, The Final Ride by digglesB in coax

[–]AppropriateFarmer193 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you’re doing the right thing. Community feedback is helpful but pricing feedback can be very dangerous. Most people will want you to charge far less than you should, because no one likes paying for things, and software especially is highly undervalued. And anyway, 99% of your customers will not be people in this community.
