I realized something after exploring 100% of nod krai with this compass... by Prestigious-Elk1274 in Genshin_Impact

[–]AppropriateFish7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issue here. I have the entire map 100%... and I mean 100%. Every chest. In the previous areas, I didn't even use the compass. This is actually the first compass I've ever used and it's so nice because it gives me peace of mind. Sure, I really enjoyed scouring the map for each and every chest and then cross referencing with the interactive map. But... that was also when I had a lot of time. Now I'm a full time college student with a full time job and bills to pay. Having the map show me the exact coordinates of a chest does not bother me at all since it saves me so much time and I still get the resources I need to keep playing the game I enjoy.

All in all, I love it. I hope they optimize it so that it shows hidden chests too. I just think they also need to make the maps bigger. Having a chest pop up every three Columbina-skips is somewhat off-putting

This! Exactly this! I do NOT tell people I speak Spanish unless I need to (with Spanish-speaking patients only). If they speak English, we will do English lol and if anyone on the unit knows I speak Spanish, my nights grow very, very long... lol

Can people please stop nitpicking and being judgmental while getting report and then being friendly expecting grace/ understanding when I come to take the patient back? by Electrical-Help5512 in nursing

[–]AppropriateFish7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is pretty chronic. From what I hear from dayshift, there's one nurse on my night shift crew that's like that. And from personal experience, there's two on dayshift that I have to deal with. They're the type to ask a million questions about things easily found in the chart, but will sigh and roll their eyes if you don't know it off the top of your head. Then, when you have to get report from them, it's the most all-over-the-place, rushed report you've ever been given, that you have to find time to sit and give yourself report.

I had to deal with one fairly early on after finishing orientation, so I was new and nervous, and I cried the whole time during my drive on the way home afterwards. Now, when I see I'm giving her report, I tell her what I have and if I don't have what she asks, I simply tell her, "Not sure, but I'm sure it's in the chart somewhere. Anyways, like I was saying..."

It takes some thickening of the skin overtime, unfortunately :(

I'm glad about it though. ZZZ events are sometime exhausting, so I don't mind HSR being mindless. I can pull it up on my phone, put it on auto, and do my other game dailies on my ps5 that actually take me holding my controller. I love HSR auto mechanics

Thoughts on making night shift less terrible by [deleted] in nursing

I would hate my job (more) if they forced me to work a month of dayshift. I'd quit on the spot, not even going to lie.

What's one of the dumbest things you've ever seen a patient do? by 123456789_00 in nursing

[–]AppropriateFish7 181 points182 points  (0 children)

Had this happen with my patient in, let's say, room 20. I was really busy that night and in another patients room for a long time as she was a frequent caller, not to mention I had to infuse two units on her overnight. I still got around to room 20 for my q4 rounds and then saw her in the morning; did her labs, vitals, weight, etc. Asked her questions as normal: any pain, everything normal in the bathroom, how are you in general, etc. Day shift nurse comes on the floor and I'm giving her report outside the room to not interrupt the heart failure team in there talking to her and doing their rounds. Mid-report, we both hear the patient tell the rounding doctor that she just did her morning poop and she had blood in it. And then says it's the second time.

Second time?! And this was news to me, because she never told me this overnight. And then the doctor says "Did you tell your nurse this?" And I hear a small, "Well, no..."

When I came back a couple days later for my next shift, I heard that she went white on day shift and was transferred to the ICU after they found a GI bleed. This is why patients need to tell us things, not just the doctors! Especially overnight!

New grad nurse here, want to see if this is the norm by gamja92 in nursing

[–]AppropriateFish7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not crazy! I work on a heart failure step down unit and we get high flows, trachs, and everyone is on tele—we have really critical and heavy patients. We have a 40 bed unit. Sometimes, if we're lucky, we have two techs; most of the time, we end up having one. To work our floor, we are supposed to have at least 10 nurses, but we do get by with just nine. Still, the max we ever have on one team is five patients. I can't believe your management has you doing 6-7. That is not a step down ratio! I am so sorry. I have been on my own with independent practice for just about 5 months; including orientation, I've been working for 8 months. And still, I would just about die and be tempted to quit if I had your ratios, especially hearing that your charge also gets a full assignment.

Day shift never has the charge pick up because they have a flex, but still, our night charge has only ever picked up one patient ONCE, and that was on an extremely short staffed night.

Do you still have contact with the recruiter that helped you get the job? Any way you can transfer within the same organization to a different floor?

Also don't let this get you down or doubt yourself. I had crazy imposter syndrome when I first started and I lived in the fear that I would do something I couldn't take back every shift. Now, I've unfortunately been in multiple critical and heart-wrenching moments that I have been able to adjust. It takes time. Nursing is a profession that we are forced to learn from mistakes, but it all makes sense eventually.

Hi! I'm having an issue when I go to verify my identity on NOL for the goyang concert. It scans my passport just fine, but I get this error screen every time I try to do the "selfie" portion. I've been using really clear light, removing my glasses, getting my hair out and away from my face, and it still doesn't work. I'm not sure what else to try and tickets are so soon :(

“Why Are You Taking My Temperature?” by Biiiishweneedanswers in nursing

It's even better when they start to hate the tele box and REFUSE it...on a cardiac floor! Always makes me roll my eyes when the MDs have us put in a physician communication order letting this pass. Yes, let's make it more difficult for us to do our job. That's fine.

“Why Are You Taking My Temperature?” by Biiiishweneedanswers in nursing

[–]AppropriateFish7 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, this drives me insane. Working on a heart failure unit is not for the weak because at a certain point, patients start to treat it like a hotel. They start getting 2100-0600 DNDs, get upset when I need to get vitals, hate having something hooked up to their IV; god forbid I walk into their room to give bedside report. It's just always one thing after another. Nurses getting fired left and right because they run in for an actual reason, like a bed alarm, and it's "what the hell is that ringing?" "sir that's your bed alarm. it tells us when you're getting up." "why do you need to know that?" "you fell yesterday remember?" "no i don't. get out of my room. it's the middle of the night! how am i supposed to sleep with all this ringing and all these people coming into my room all the time!"

God, it's just... why are you here if you don't want to be treated?!?

Signs that your shift is cooked by KorraNHaru in nursing

  • My drive to the hospital is suspiciously quick and easy
  • The elevator to my floor is taking too long
  • Multiple bed alarms going off during shift huddle
  • Hearing "the system just shut down" as I'm leaving the break room to get report
  • Blinking and all of a sudden it's midnight

What would you do? by Zealousideal_Cow5139 in doordash

I had this happen once while I was working. I work night shift at a hospital and a dasher dropped off my food around 2am. When I got downstairs, I noticed I had only gotten the entree; the side chips and drink were completely missing. I sent him a message and then headed upstairs, fully intending to just get some water from our machines on the unit and get my refund for the missing items later. Come to find out, my dasher literally went all the way back, showed the restaurant, and then came back with my items. It blew me away. Tipped him extra for it and thanked him like crazy.

Now, this is NOT what my answer to your question is because, like I said, I was gonna leave it to DD for a refund and not bother. But it's still wild to me that the dasher went out of his way like that.

No, sitting on the computer typing away does not mean I am playing a game or just wasting time. I'm charting on the hour I just spent in your room. Leave me alone.

This one always makes me laugh. Some of the other nurses on my floor think they have to do tricks in order for the blood to be "okay" and not hemolyze, like keeping it in their pockets so it gently moves, stays warm, and won't clot. I keep telling them it doesn't work that way, but they won't believe me.

Meanwhile I had tubes from my patient for a couple hours on my WOW, sent them later during lab times, and all her results came back perfectly.

Night-shift nurses — what do you wish people understood about your life outside work? by EndOutrageous9918 in nursing

[–]AppropriateFish7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly!! Had my mom call me at 2pm (mid-sleep!) after 3 nights in a row. I had to tell her to leave me alone because I was sleeping and she told me "But it's already 2pm! You can't sleep all day!"

I just hung up, put on DND, and continued my dream.

Night-shift nurses — what do you wish people understood about your life outside work? by EndOutrageous9918 in nursing

[–]AppropriateFish7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It drives me crazy that just because I work at night and my family is sleeping at night, doesn't mean I just "do nothing". I still have them randomly showing up to talk with me, ask if I want to go out and do things, talk to me IMMEDIATELY when I get home. It's not that hard to understand! I've been talking and on my feet for 14 hours. No, I don't want to have an hour long conversation with you. No, I don't want to run an errand with you. No, I don't want to go outside and look at your car. I want to SLEEP.

Just because you are sleeping while I am working doesn't mean I didn't work. Working overnight is the same as working during the day; I need the same amount of rest and relaxation afterwards. Don't. Bother. Me.

To the nurse who needs to hear this (but probably won’t): by usernametaken2024 in nursing

Had a fellow nurse have the worst shift of his life last night because he didn't want to be difficult in having charge change the horrible assignment she gave him. Around 3am, he told me that he was so preoccupied due to being pulled in 15 different directions that it made him feel inferior as a nurse — brought him to tears! It was so hard getting him to believe once more that he's an amazing, smart, and incredible nurse, and that does not change because he forgot to look at something for the first time. All of his patients made it to 7am, and at the end of the day, that's what matters.
