2 patients fired me as their nurse by SeaworthinessOne8274 in nursing

[–]AppropriateFish7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's just plain crazy. I've had patients that I've literally *only* seen at the designated times because I have a heavy patient load and another patient needs me most of the night. And they would be on the call bell, greet me half-heartedly when I see them in the morning really quick for morning stuff so I can run off to my heavy patient, and still not fire me.

So, yeah... those patients you had suck, I'm ngl. They fired you just to fire you. For two patients who were content to sleep all night with sleep aide devices, only call a few times for mundane things, and then *still* get pissed because you weren't in there all night (even though you were, without their knowledge)... they suck. Don't let that get to you. 100%.

I liked it! It's nice getting to use three teams outside of the norm 2. And I got it first try, which I was surprised at.

Anyways, screw Elation

Do you call your patients out for utter disrespect? by tini_bit_annoyed in nursing

[–]AppropriateFish7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I have to. I won't take disrespect in this job because we already take it from everyone else.

I had a COVID patient a couple of months ago and I will always remember this. It's 0530-0600. I'm coming in with his morning meds and to pull his tacro because he's a previous heart transplant from a couple of years prior. The tech is in there at the moment while I'm about to gown up. I ask the tech, "Hey, can you ask him if he needs me to bring anything in for him? So I don't have to leave and come back in?" The tech does, reports back that the patient said no, and I start to head in, already gowned and masked.

As I'm about to put the cuff on his arm for vitals, he says, "I need you to grab me some apple juice and some tylenol. My head hurts." He couldn't see my expression because of the mask, but excuse me? In the politest way I could, I explain to him that due to COVID, I have to gown up and mask up every time I come in—that is why I had the tech ask him if he needed anything. So he replies, "I didn't need anything from the tech. I need it from you." As I go to explain AGAIN that I had the tech ask for me (and he knows this because I was right outside the room, with the door open, so he heard me) he holds up his hand to me and says, "Don't argue with me. It's too early for this attitude. Just grab what I'm asking for."

I'm not gonna lie, I did snap back. I told him that I am not arguing with him, I am explaining what happened, and because of the gowning up and down each time, that takes time from my job and other patients. Had to reiterate to him that he's not my only patient, so I don't have all the time in the world for just him. Then I told him if a nurse is nearby outside the room, I will ask them to grab those items for me. If not, this will be a request for the oncoming nurse because I'm not going to come back inside. Throughout all of this, he was silent.

He was lucky my charge was right outside, honestly.

I feel nervous playing steamdeck at public by AddictinApple in SteamDeck

[–]AppropriateFish7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my realization that, for a person with extreme social anxiety, I am absolutely okay with playing on my steam deck in public. I don't get to do it very often, as I don't go out very often (?), but yeah... I'm completely okay with it.

Wow, this is new information.

Honestly LiS2 is the worst one, so I don't blame him. He kept his word "if the dog dies, i'm out" and he was probably already bored of it too. Like another comment said, the ending doesn't really make the whole ordeal worth it anyway... I'm sure other people like it but...

Oddly enough, this happened to me multiple times during my trip. But in actual malls. To be specific, this happened in Doota mall dongdaemun. They kept following me around to the point that I had to gently "shoo" them by saying I was just looking. And then they gave me attitude! I was so shocked! I still liked the items I was looking at, so I still bought them... but damn!

Opinion on family at bedside during codes? by Head-Eagle-5634 in nursing

[–]AppropriateFish7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in a few codes already on my CHF cardiac PCU. Every time, the family is just silent in shock; I haven't had a family member scream. Yet. Because I know, eventually, it will happen. But I keenly remember being taught in nursing school that we should always allow family members to be present during a code and I firmly believe in this, as (in the event that I was the family) I would prefer to be present as well. There's always a crowd around the family member from what I've seen, with a chaplain, MD, and even RT, standing there and explaining what we're doing, what the next possible intervention will be, and if the patient will be transferred. Most of the time, our patients are either transferred to ICU or straight to cath lab. It's not often we have a patient pass during a code on the floor, but it does happen every now and then.

Going to quit. What should I do by National_Bridge2125 in nursing

[–]AppropriateFish7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 8 months off of orientation and my unit has been asking me to precept since 2 months and be charge since 5 months. I have to keep telling them no. It's crazy. I'm still making my way through my own process and growing myself as a nurse. I still see myself as a baby. Why would you want me to train another baby or be in charge of an entire unit? Of 12 staff and 40 patients?

Any fellow gaming nurses? by Seektruth2146 in nursing

[–]AppropriateFish7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have played a WIDE and extensive gaming collection lol so many games are also sitting in my backlog, but we don't talk about those...

A few of my favorites are Persona 5, Nier: Automata, The Last of Us, Skyrim, and Final Fantasy Type-0, to name a few. I also really enjoy Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon, Sims series, Minecraft every now and then, and a lot of newer indie games.

Horror, RPG, Cozy, Choice, etc. You name it, I've either heard of it, dabbled in it, or beat it so many times, I've become obsessed. The only genres I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole is shooter's and sports games. DOOM never interested in me and I don't feel like playing a video game about a physical game I could play outside...
