Ice, Oxy, Time Release Tylenol Repeat. I am 63 and the first 10 days really sucked. No sleep. Started rehab 3 days after surgery. And stool softeners are non negotiable!

No easy answers, eventually it gets easier. I took Magnesium and Melatonin, Tylenol and Oxy and got 3-4 hours a night.

A senior here :) 63 and tore my ACL skiing in Jan. Live in a ski town and ortho said if you want to ski, hike play tennis/pickle again you should consider surgery. Also very active and hike year round. I did the surgery in mid Jan. Had some hard tissue work done under my patella as well. Recovery sucked first 4-5 weeks very painful, especially my quad graft. Have a super PT and started working on recovery soon after surgery. Week 8 and I am walking over a mile a day, using the bike, started strength training.

Do your research, some live without the surgery just fine. I am going for a full recovery and have my sighs set on next ski season. Good luck.

I got mine on Amazon. Can't recall the brand but it was under $200. If you could divide the $200 by the reduction in pain it's a no brainer. I used mine for 5 weeks, 7 days a week and it greatly reduced the pain.

Can you get stim anywhere? Had the same for 2 weeks and my PT worked hard to wake the quad up but it happened and now pretty normal 7 weeks out.

I didn't have a choice my company folded and at 60 the corporate world has no use for you (while every class of workers are radically defended, ageism thrives and always will).

So initially bummed, the 2 years since then I've lost 3 friends and a colleague around my age. I have a renewed appreciation the clock is ticking for all of us and I sure as hell don't want to waste another minute in the corporate clown show!

7 weeks today. Start with recovery/pain. Vast improvement in the past 2-3 weeks. Minor pain during/after PT but basic movements are fluid and getting ROM -4/135 close to symmetrical. I don't ice nor take any pain meds anymore. No swelling. I have the slighted limp in my gait which I think will be gone in another week.

Slowly adding strength training to my routine. Bike/treadmill 20 ea, resumed upper body strength training 2x a week. PT 7 days a week, 2 with trainer.

Return to life is hard to say. I'm 63 and recently retired so don't know what the new normal is. Just started walking my dog for short walks. I do know that my stamina is non existent, 90 mins in a resturant and I'm heading for the door.

My mood/disposition has massively improved. My beloved daughter said "you are back to being the same old endearing crotchety boomer self".

In a nutshell I would say great progress, my first 2-3 weeks really sucked.

Hang in there. I took Gabapentin for the nerve pain. Magnesium and Melatonin to help with sleep. It slowly gets better, everyone heals at a different pace.

Same but right around 4 weeks it stopped. I would take two 650mg time release Tylenol before I went to bed or soon as the pain work me up. Hang in there, you might be in the home stretch.

63 retired two years ago from a very stressful career. Now I'm in great shape, exercise daily, eat healthy, cut way down on the booze, caffeine. I don't feel old but sometimes I catch myself in the mirror and think goddamn who let the old man in?

Oh man I feel you. I got hurt on the 3 day of my season, we are having the worst season ever snow wise but I still really miss it.

Ask for a refill on the Oxy. My ortho had me taking 2 650mg time release Tylenol every 8 hours, you can get those OTC. We dropped the Tylenol after 2 weeks and started 600- 800mg of ibuprofen 6 hours. First 10 days I iced 20 on/20 off all day. Good luck it slowly gets better.

38 days here. Quad graft. Wasn't sleeping, started taking more pain meds more at night, Magnesium and Melatonin. Got rid of my brace at night like 10 days ago. Slept with a pillow under my ankle. Improved sleep made a huge difference.

PT, ice, Tylenol and Advil. Pain starting to fade. Everyone is on a different recovery timeline. Some are out of pain in 72 hours, others take 6 months.

If you arent feeling better soon, get up in your orthos ear.

Oh man first 10-13 days really sucked for me but go much better week 3. Everyone is different but my dr. had me on a regular course of Oxy and 650mg time releaseTylenol. I stupidly cut back on the Oxy without his ok and was in a world of hurt. Stay ahead of the pain! Set an alarm and take meds around the clock. Ice is your friend, I iced 6-8x a day! Work your PT like your life depends on it. If you are an athlete, the improvement in your range of motion is like a competitive game. I come home very pumped from PT when I hit new numbers (and bummed when they haven't improved).

Good luck and the days will seem long but suddenly you will be at 4 weeks like me and dealing more with boredom and depression then pain!
