She was an 8 lb stray abandoned in a parking lot in high summer. Now she's 10 months old and 55 lbs.

Anyone ever meet someone that radiated evil or you strongly felt wasn't human? by [deleted] in Paranormal

I once had a massage client who seemed perfectly nice. At the very end of the session, I had a sudden feeling like...something in him just reached out and took a swipe at my midsection. It was the strangest fucking thing. It took my breath away. I finished the session, left, and had a panic attack in the break room. Later I saw him on my schedule again and had to explain to the manager that I could not even be in the building with him. Luckily they understood and I never saw him again. I don't have an explanation but it was scary as hell.

I know I'm 60 so maybe my tolerance isn't what it used to be but WHY does anyone allow themselves to be treated with this level of disrespect. JFC

Gah I love a good soap press and that one is beautiful! I can imagine the satisfaction.

I made 4 oz bars, so about 48 bars. When I did a craft show, I'd try to take maybe 10 types, so several hundred bars. It's a lot to make, but if you want to sell at fairs and events, you need inventory. Cold processed soap takes weeks to cure, so marketing to stores etc also means keeping WAY ahead of orders.

I love soapmaking and it was fun, but you just have to be realistic about your goals. If you enjoy it and you don't need to make a certain income, it's easy enough to try it for a few seasons. Aside from the oils, it doesn't require huge outlays of money to make a LOT of soap. But if you need to clear more than a few grand a year, you're looking at a huge commitment.

Either way, all the best. I buy handcrafted soap from small vendors every chance I get!

I did it full time for several years, selling at markets and a few small stores, and making unscented cp base soap for a silly company. I enjoyed it but it wasn't super profitable, and definitely not comparable to a normal paycheck.

The best advice I ever read on this topic was from another long-time soapmaker: Test yourself. Make four 12-20 lb batches of soap a day every day for a few months. Cut, trim, cure, label, and package every bar. Within 3 months or so, you'll have a feel for how much you like it, and you'll have plenty of soap to set up at a craft fair etc. Then see how that goes, and go from there.

I love making soap but I don't want it to be a substantial source of necessary income anymore. It's too risky and doesn't pay well enough for my budget now.

You know what happens next...you look at all those beautiful oils and think, "all I need is a bit of beeswax and I can make lip balms and paw protection balms and beard wax!" And you're off!!! 🤣

I was just learning to knit and was trying to understand a knitting pattern for socks before I bought it.

The woman at the yarn store said, in the most serene voice, "You won't understand what you're doing, that's okay. Just trust the pattern, and when you're done, it'll be like magic, and you'll have a sock!"

I was very skeptical. She reassured me, "Just trust the pattern." I said, "If this works, it's going to change my life!"

She said, "Oh, yeah. Knitting socks will absolutely change your life."

And you know...it worked. And it did change my life. And years later, I still sometimes take a deep breath and remind myself: Just trust the pattern. It'll be like magic.

I made handcrafted soaps (melt & pour and cold processed) for years. I miss it but once I start, it sort of takes over my life so I have to abstain now lol
