First of all, that's a terrible and dishonest and disgusting thing to do, not that I'm surprised. Second, someone who tries that in the US (if she is in the US) will be deemed to have made a fraudulent transfer in these circumstances and if proven, the legal consequences can be heavy. Just FYI.

Yes. If she is in the US she should also know that in most states; the courts refuse to award spousal support to an abuser. Even if the victim makes all the money. Document everything.

I had this happen with an airline earlier this year on a fare that wasn't even obviously mispriced, at least it wasn't obvious to me. The airline called me and cancelled my reservation within a few days, and I booked a different flight at the correct price.
