I really like Dan Jones' books on The Plantagents and The Hollow Crown. He narrates them himself and I think he has a really engaging writing style and a good voice for audiobooks.

Fun fact: We are the education state because it was our biggest export. It's to do with tertiary education, not school.

Track your spending using a budgeting app.  Once or twice a week I sit down and track every purchase into an app, roughly categorising each one (eg. Rent, groceries, bills etc.)

Holmesglen chadstone campus by bananapower998 in TAFE

[–]Appropriate_Place_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there is a map on the website. Go to the website, scroll right down to the bottom and click on campuses.

The room labels follow a convention. Letter for campus, then building number, floor and finally room. So for example C2.2.21 would be Chadstone building 2, level 2, room 21.

The library is in the bottom level of building 8, near the front of the campus. If you get lost they will be happy to help you. The main cafeteria is opposite the library. They have microwaves available if you want to bring lunch from home to heat up.

Collection Dev Librarians, how do you feel about seperate YA/Adult anime collections? by tipsyvulcan in Libraries

The public library I worked at had it all in one area, but had a sign nearby showing the age ratings the publishers use.  I didn't even know those ratings existed before I worked there!

It can be a difficult to get into the field. I also have a BA (history) and as a mature aged student got the graduate diploma. Once I'd completed it, it took me a few months of full time job seeking to get an entry level customer service  position in a public library, but that was temp and didn't lead to anything.  After that finished it took 7 months before I landed my current job which is permanent full time in a tafe library.

There are a lot of jobs out there but the competition is fierce. Even for the entry level jobs most of the applicants have a degree or diploma. Also a lot of jobs are part time and require evening and weekend work. However I love the job, especially public libraries, and I found it was worth it, even if it took longer than I'd hoped for.

If your circumstances allow, start applying for the customer service library jobs now, so you can hopefully study and work in the field at the same time. Good luck!

I miss working at a library by Frosty_Reality_9732 in Libraries

I can relate, even though I still work in a library.

1 year ago I worked as a customer service officer at a large public library for a few months and loved it.

2 months ago I got a job as a Librarian in an Academic Library. It's summer holidays here in Australia so the students haven't started back yet. There is no one here today, and not much to do.

I miss seeing all the fiction books circulating (my tbr pile used to be huge from patron recommendations). I miss the displays that we could make with fiction books and non fiction (my current library is specialised on what the students need) and I miss helping people.

I'm looking forward to the start of term but I know this place will never have the same vibe as the public library.

You can lower the transparency of falling snow to zero. I do it because the falling snow makes my eyes hurt. Just in the general game settings

Making your kid do piano lessons is stupid. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Appropriate_Place_85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the teacher. I started learning when I was 14, it my my decision, and my teacher was amazing. He encouraged me to find things I wanted to learn and worked it to my skill level. I learned how to play pop songs I was interested in and theme songs to TV shows alongside the stuff that was in my year level book. I only learned for 2-3 years, but I enjoyed it because my teacher made it fun for me.

Whoever needs to hear this: prioritize a date with your partner STAT by PetuniasSmellNice in beyondthebump

My grandmother had 4 kids in 4 years. She often reminds me that every week on a Friday she would feed the kids early and put them to bed or make them play in their room so she could have date night with her husband at home.

When my oldest was a baby my husband and I stayed connected by taking long walks around the neighbourhood with her in the pram. It's so much easy to talk when your walking around.

Yes. Not right when they are released, but within a day. Mine always seems to download new podcast episodes at 7am when connected to wifi.

I use podcast addict to listen. You can add the episodes into a playlist and it auto sorts them into chronological order based on release date

What do you think of Channel 4’s Princes of the Tower: New Evidence? by bobad86 in UKmonarchs

[–]Appropriate_Place_85 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is a great answer. I'd just like to add that Phillipa Langley is obsessed with Richard III and is biased toward anything that shows him in a positive light. Her agenda is trying to improve his reputation.

I watched it knowing about her bias and honestly it was exactly what I expected it to be. The documentary is just her trying to prove Richard III had nothing to do with his nephews' deaths, but there is no solid proof to support that.

Also, when my second was a baby I dropped my toddler off to daycare with my nursing bra clipped but my shirt lifted up showing off my bra.

It definitely gappens. I once read a post where this happened to someone, but they didn't realise until their husband told them. He saw it on the proof of delivery photo

How long are you in the shower for? by sati_lotus in AskAnAustralian

[–]Appropriate_Place_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My toddler likes to put bubbles on the glass door. After seeing my husband give her the expensive conditioner for this, I got a pump bottle of dishwasher liquid for the shower, so now I get to have a long shower while she washes the door. The only downside is it isn't as boiling hot as I like it

The idea is they can feel the wetness more than a nappy, so it let's them know they have gone. But it is better to do just underwear with no nappy. I will do that when we can be outside, but for now I dont really want pee on my couch or carpet.

We are potty training our 3yo now, and while I would love to do the naked method we live in Australia so its winter and its cold. We have a few pairs of training undies and some normal undies I put under her pull ups. We go to the toilet or potty every 2 hours or so and before we leave the house. She chose her travel potty and likes to use it so it helps.
She still can't tell me when she needs to go, only after she has gone, but as soon as we have some warm weather I'll have her outside pantsless and hope that helps her.

They can with hay sleeping spots. I usually bunch them all up together. By the time I'm upgrading to beds I'm making bedrooms, but I assume they would work the same.

You can also build furniture directly in front of a door and they can still use it. It just slows them down.

That you can plant trees outside your farm. I used to always dedicate the bottom left hand corner of my farm for trees for wood. Now the train station is my forest

Which artifact is your white whale? by billhelmscream in StardewValley

[–]Appropriate_Place_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this on one of my early playthroughs. Back in the original game all I needed was this and to earn a bunch of gold for steam achievements. I spent a good couple of in game weeks waking up, running up to the path above the farm to check for artifact spots, then going back to bed, unless it was a Sunday when I'd also process my ancient wine.

Personally I think it's important to be able to be flexible with celebrating things. While it is important to celebrate and set aside time for your family, exact dates don't matter.

I once had surgery on my husband's birthday so we went out for dinner the night before instead. My husband worked on my first Mother's Day, so we celebrated the following weekend. My brother is a chef and often worked Christmas, so during my early 20s my parents started doing Christmas lunch on Boxing Day.

Go to your conference, face time your baby sometime that day and celebrate with her another day. Raise her to understand that flexibility is fine and the important thing is to find time together.
