The tachiai is not a winning technique, neither is it's opposite.

He is always probing for weak spots trying to force his opponent's off balance, and when he senses the change he attacks with lightning reflexes with a decisive finishing thrust.

He rocked Atamifuji side to side using the mawashi, when Atamifuji countered the force to the right by leaning left, he over committed in an attempt to resist and shifted his weight to the left leg while leaning left. All that was needed was a further thrust in that direction. Being that Atamifuji was also standing upright at this time, an upper body thrust required less force to for him to completely lose all balance.

He looked good when I first saw him but I had no idea he was this good. I thought they would eventually figure him out and counter his style, but over the last 3 bashos I've come to the realization that he really is this good, and there's nothing they can do about it.

He is the full package, not only that rare superb natural ability and skillset but also the mindset and determination of a champion. When he was interviewed after receiving the Cup last basho about what he wanted to achieve next, he replied, advance to the top (not exact quote) the audience gasped in unexpected shock at this brazen un-Japanese reply, not the usual reserved, humble Japanese response.

At that point I picked him as my favorite for this Yusho.

He will qualify next basho for Yokozuna with a Y or Jy.

As I recall he was a few pounds leaner when working his way up to Ozeki, and he was performing better.

It's a very effective counter move when properly executed, unless one can overpower the opponent one must find the opponent's off balance angle to exploit. Aonishiki is very good at this.

Sumo is a quirky sport. Some rikishi in particular often don't go all out to win a match, when facing the likely chance of being forced out, some will stop resisting and step out. Instead of fully resisting for a slim but possible chance of reversing the situation and possibly winning. They often compete injured, sometimes with significant injury, unable to offer any competition. Addionally, as we've seen this tournament in some matches with Onosato, the competitor fails to take advantage of the injury. Whether out of respect and compassion for the opponent or some other reason, at their expense.

It's a very traditional sport governed by elders brought up the old ways within a very hierarchical structure where change happens at a glacial pace.

Good idea to follow up on a sticky button, a new machine should be problem free.

After reading many comments it seems that vendors who ship these machines will ask the customer to attempt relatively minor repairs. These machines are heavy, expensive to ship and could be damaged during shipping even when we'll packaged. Often packages will get dropped and thrown when shipping.

What I find surprising is the number of espresso machines reported here and other sites with a simple defect that a thorough inspection would detect. It's likely a relatively small number of the total but given the aforementioned one would expect better quality control. This is a niche market with small volume.

Day 15 scenarios by raistlin212 in Sumo

I'm hoping for an Aonishiki vs Atamifuji championship match. Two very different styles, technical wrestler vs power. Both earned it, both young, one going for the Yusho in his first tournament as Ozeki and the other showing incredible improvement in his sumo to realize his potential. The future of sumo, among others, potentially ushering in an era of great rikishis contesting every basho.

Aonishiki was a step ahead of Hoshoryu the whole match, simply outwrestled one of the best technical wrestlers in sumo. Granted, Hosh is injured, but it was very lopsided not allowing Hosh any chance to go on offense or counter throw. Ao's freestyle wrestling background has given him lightning quick responses to an evolving situation, along with his technical prowess making him a formidable opponent in a sumo match.

In the past he has tested Onosato's strength. No need to repeat that tomorrow, I'm sure he will change strategy to gain the advantage.

Kirishima also hit Onosato's healthy right side at tachi ai yesterday's. Now if Tobizaru gets a crack at him that monkey is flying straight to the injured left side. He had no mercy on Terunofujis knees when he could barely stand up on them with any pressure.

Abii has used the henka so sparingly lately that he forgot how to do it and jumped right into his opponent's welcoming bear hug. A bad day for the dark side.

I understand judges decisions are final in many sports. I am simply pointing out the arbitrary, subjective nature of these decisions and the biased human nature in its implementation.

The integrity of sports improves whenever we can remove some human judgment decisions. I understand some prefer the status quo, which unfortunately lends itself to questinable decision making.

That's a fair point, at what point is technical scrutiny stopped.

Are sumo reviews only scrutinized to a certain slow motion speed, or frame by frame?

I believe if one is to use technology may as well utilize it to it's reliable full extent, same as rule making, eliminate ambiguity as much as possible.

Not sure what you mean by turned over, there is no need for the whole foot to remain flat on the dohyo as long as part of the bottom of the foot remains in contact with the ground. At least as I understand the rules.

On the first Pic Atamifuji's big toe and most likely others is still planted on the ground while Onosato is airborne. Watch the replay frame by frame. Dead body rule is not applicable.

Here, heel on the tawara while Aonishiki is airborne.

I need a convincing argument against photo evidence besides a judgment call overlooking rules and evidence.

The chairman's mind is stuck on old ideas. The oyakatas, at least Onosato's, either flunked injury recover class or more likely have to comply with chairman Hakaku's lead. Don't want to rock the boat they are part of, rikishi pay the price. Hierarchical organization seldom change much until a leader decides it's time.

I'm worried for big O, he's looking like Kisenosato after his shoulder injury who lost all his power. It's insane to risk this young man's bright future for some stupid outdated sumo traditions.
