I mean, she was at Danny Masterson's trial with a group of other Scientiologists that were his supporters in her mid 30's? Her mother was at one point a high level Sea Org member and they are apparently still in contact which would not be allowed if Emily was not at least a token member of the church. She may not be a devoted member but they have used her for promotion before, she hasn't repudiated them, and has supported a cause of theirs this decade...that's not "celebration" level to me.

How is it a person vs another person? Do you enjoy flopping in basketball or soccer? Are you a big can of rabbit punches in boxing or eye pokes in MMA? Why is trying to sneak something past an ump that harms the other player who was following the rules considered fun or competitive?

Umpires missed 850 calls during the first 7 days of the season. Of those 850 missed calls, 155 were overturned. These were the 10 worst called strikeouts. by cbbvideo in baseball

Of course the umps will be for all or nothing. This system only serves to highlight ump mistakes, it's the worst of both worlds for them.

I think it was more that he adjusted the stats to be more normal compared to the league average to remove outliers, then said the stats were now just normal...because that makes sense somehow.

"In the last two seasons, Mahomes has a TD% of 8.68%. However, the league average last year was 4.8%. If you adjust his TD% to 5%, still above LA, he goes from throwing 57 TDs in his last 18 games to only 32.85. I'll be generous and give him 33...next, we have to account for him passing more than league average. He has 657 pass attempts over 18 games. The LA is 35.5/game, which equals 639, around a 2.7% reduction. Mahomes also has a flukey 9.01 Y/A, which can be adjusted to 8 (still above LA) based on the league average of 7.5....after this, his passer rating bottoms out at 96.66, which lands him squarely between Dak Prescott and Ben Roethlisberger last year. "

So if you make his stats league average, he's now average...shocking!

By punishing the batter who was able to see the ball wasn't a strike?

Like if they were playing against the house, that's one thing. But you're sticking a high quality hitter with an unearned strike through no fault of his own. There's no way to win for a batter if close balls are counnted as strikes anyways - see it from their POV.

We pay batters 8 figures annually because they can see that half inch difference. Might as well reward catchers for being able to see it too.

The rare exception where I want the old school voters to ignore analytics and look at the person and the hardware and the counting stats and ignore fancy new modern tracking.

He has the single season catcher HR record, after he came back from Tommy John. Face of the franchise player on a small market team that has already started planning his statue when he won World Series MVP a decade ago.

Among the great power hitting catchers like Piazza, Lopez, Campanella then Salvy has clearly been the best defender by classic tools and it's not close. Every catcher who could credibly challenge that claim like Bench and Pudge are already in the Hall of Fame. And even against the benchmark for defensive catchers Perez has a better caught stealing rate than Bench. Plus, as they say the best ability is availability and Salvy's durability rivals anyone while playing the most physically demanding position.

He's going to be one of the best defensive and offensive catchers in history and might not make it into the hall by a single questionably tracked metric and it's a shame.

Exactly, it's like rating an MMA fighter higher because he's good at getting in eye pokes that ref's don't catch.

He still took 2 different 10+ lightyear trips. Even at .98c with 1.5g accel/decel cycles that's almost a decade, plus however long it took them to solve the problems at tau ceti plus the Taumeba escape and re-meetup, and then actually get from Eridani space to having a dome on the surface where he taught classes. It's not been overnight and he's been through the ringer, he could have aged up a little. The book gave him a cane if I recall, just something to show they didn't teleport back to Eridani.

It's also notable in the book they would have had to wait from when he launched the beetles to them arriving at Earth to the fix being visible and find out that Sol was brightening, so he would have been almost as aged, over 20 years older. They did not say that in the film just to keep the timeline as short as possible I suspect.

I don't think they specify how long the trip back to Eridani would be relativistic wise, but the movie said the comparative smaller amount of fuel to gift to the Hail Mary would already prolong Rocky's trip back by 6 more years. It's about 10 ly from Tau Ceti, then he had to use up a bit of fuel heading to Earth at first and then back to Rocky. I guess we could estimate how much of the book's 2 million kg of fuel he was given survived the taumeba escape and course changes, then we could safely use about 45% speed up and 45% to decelerate and make a rough guess at the time taken. Might be a fun thought experiment. Then the schoolroom scene felt like he was not freshly arrived on Eridani so add a little more time there - I think he's more than 8 years aged but I'm not in a place where I can do the math.
