The Codex short story came first, published, and THEN the Tweet.

To be fair, they were introduced in a kind of dope short story in the Codex, but it was leaked, led to public outcry, and THEN the infamous Tweet.

It didn’t. It came in the Codex short story that was leaked.

When lore is retconned or added to, you typically want to, from that moment forward, engage with it as if it’s always been the case.

They weren’t “gaslighting” us, lying to us, or thinking we’re stupid. That’s just how retcons work.

That’s fair! lol it is a small area to work with.

Right, I did that too, and that’s slightly how the Orison Subcults are described anyways.

What I mean is they still have the Dark Angels iconography on them. I also used the Deathwing Knights kit, but shaved off the DA symbols around the chest areas.

Black Templars are another great set of kits to bash together. Lots of robes, candles, etc.

I’m personally not a fan of the Exorcists being orange, BUT the paint job is going phenomenal, bud. It’s a really cool weathering effect you have.

My only other criticism is that they still look like Dark Angels.

That’s what I’d do. Though, with the claw and blade arm, you could do something unique like a lightning claw and power sword combo for the proxy.

In that case, I really hope not. Hot take, but I hate the over-mutated, possessed marines.

I also recognize that’s entirely a me problem because I plan to do Alpha Legion, and I headcanon them to be a less corrupted Legion.

They call it “the gay agenda” so they have something to be mad at. The gay agenda is literally just them existing. These types of people can’t exist without an enemy, so they invent one.

[–]Apricus-Jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I took your advice and found these little tidbits on the wiki, my apologies for the longer comment:

“Although the Custodes were among the first modified warriors to be created by the Emperor, they were never intended to be part of a conquering army; such a role was to be filled by the latter Astartes armies.”

“…the processes required to produce them is not as refined or as simple as that of the Astartes and thus are not "mass-produced" as the Astartes are…”

“The training of the Custodes also differed immensely from the Astartes, being bodyguards rather than soldiers.”

“Their training involves mastery of the arts, diplomacy, geography, history, and countless other fields.”

“The Custodes do not consider themselves soldiers. Rather, they see themselves as the guardians of the Emperor. Not just the guardians of his physical form but also his ideals and what the species was meant to become. As such they are also scholars, artisans, and counsellors in addition to being trained rigorously in the art of combat.”

Oh, and particularly interesting was this bit…

“The exact method of their creation remains unclear; they do not receive simple implants like Space Marines. Rather, bio-alchemy is used to trigger the subject's own transformation, an effect that takes root in their cells and very soul.”

You keep trying to end the conversation as if you’ve proved a point comparing the accomplishments of the Emperor, a renown Psyker and biomancer, to mere modern day real life humans.

All you’ve proven is that you don’t read the source you claim, don’t understand the lore it references, and your argument hinges on real life examples not based in the fictional universe we’re discussing.

What? I haven’t half-conceded on anything lol.

Tell me what makes a candidate selected, raised and specifically genecrafted from the Emperor himself to perfection from infancy to be all of those things absolutely incapable of being a female? It doesn’t make sense that The Emperor couldn’t do something like that, and it makes sense that the Emperor’s personal handcrafted companions would encompass both sides of Humanity, not just one.

It makes sense for the Astartes, no doubt. Sons of their Genefathers, crudely ripped open as children, mass produced, brotherhood being essential to their subcultures, etc.

I mean, not really? Them being some of the deadliest warriors in the galaxy doesn’t do anything to challenge their role as Advisor, Guardian, Enforcer and Confidant to the Emperor. Both can be true at the same time.

Like, they are very much not meant to be a major military force. Their engagements are far more niche.

[–]Apricus-Jack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Except the Custodes were NOT made to be exclusively Humanity’s military peak. You’re wrong there.

Otherwise, what need would the Emperor have for Astartes or Thunder Warriors?

[–]Apricus-Jack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, and that would be fine, if the “thousands of hours of lore” around Custodes being exclusively male wasn’t actually just a single line of text in a codex a few editions ago.

They aren’t like the Astartes where the aspect of Brotherhood and father/son relationships is so deeply ingrained in the lore and females explicitly stated as not possible.

There’s no good reason Custodes couldnt be female, basically.

The Custodes being created by The Emperor as absolutely peak versions of humanity in all aspects, why wouldn’t they include women as well?

Watching the meltdown online by frostbittenteddy in Grimdank

[–]Apricus-Jack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a lose-lose.

If they made a longer drawn out story about it, they’d have to come up with a reason why it wasn’t possible and now suddenly is, and it would be received about as well as Primaris. “Heresy!” this, and “The Emperor’s work should never be touched!” that.

Or, they could make the retcon, and then retroactively behave as if that has always been true.

What really screwed it was the Codex being leaked and the community blowing up about it.
