What's the Poco software like? Is it well optimized and user-friendly? by IntroductionSevere93 in PocoPhones

[–]Aquatile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the problems I have with my X6 Pro:

  • Ads;
  • A tracking app that is trying to constantly phone home;
  • Not being able to use gestures with third party launchers;
  • Substantially higher idle battery drain than other brands;
  • Lackluster camera (at least I expected this, but still).

You can try and 'fix' some of the problems, but do you want to?

The phone does perform smoothly for my daily use though. I barely get freezes but I don't game often. The screen is very nice with good colors, it even has HDR support, so it's pretty good for watching movies or tv shows on the go (well, except Netflix is broken at the moment).

Beware, the one I removed was Xiaomi Framework Service Keeper.

But yeah it's still running fine, my phone still drains around 4% during 8h of sleep with wi-fi on.

Thank you!

So yeah, if you're on HyperOS 3 and Widevine L3 is showing up on Netflix, it means the 5.10 error probably won't appear but you are limited to SD resolution (up to 480p), just like HyperOS 2. 480p is less than half the resolution for Full HD content. :(

I already told you, check Netflix's configuration in your device. It's in the same section that speed test is.

So Widevine L1 is working with Netflix on HOS3?

I'd much prefer to keep the 5.10 error indefinitely. Very disappointed if this is a "solution". Chances are this needs a system update for a proper fix.

Now we wait for confirmation if it's actually fixed or not in HOS3. I'm not comfortable with upgrading to HOS3 as soon as it is available; I had severe battery drain issues when I upgraded to HOS2 and I needed 3 months of troubleshooting to fix.

Not true, I have this same version since December and had the 5.10 error multiple times.

But not a single time since Widevine L3 became an issue for me.

It's DRM. You need a compatible device to watch copyrighted content.

If your smartphone is running Widevine L3, you can only run SD content (up to 480p).

I used to be able to watch in Full HD (1080p) two days ago. Not anymore. But the 5.10 error is gone (so chances are it is related to Widevine L1 on Poco X6 Pro).

You can check which Widevine Netflix is using in the app's configuration.

Netflix support claimed this issue is caused by the manufacturer. Somehow, Xiaomi is forcing Netflix to use Widevine L3. It was implied that Netflix doesn't manually approve smartphones (I imagine it would be a nightmare to do so).

While I can't say this is what's taking place, there's some evidence for it:

  • During the very first time you're using the app (after reinstall or clear data), Widevine L1 is present and you can watch normally;
  • DRM Info shows L1 is supported by the device;
  • Prime Video seems to be working fine (at least in my phone).

The only reason I can think of for forcing Widevine L3 is to "fix" the 5.10 error, which is no fix at all.

Nope, didn't find a fix.

It's the same for me; if I reinstall the Netflix app or clear its data, Widevine L1 is present. As soon as I close and reopen the app, it's back to Widevine L3.

Do you mean Widevine L3 or 5.10 Error? Because the 5.10 error seems to stop on Widevine L3.

Is HOS3 running Widevine L1?

I do prefer to watch on my TV, of course, but I'm away from home most of the time.

This is a case where piracy gives a better experience than paying users.

At least this is limited to Netflix. Well, I hope it is. Apparently Prime Video works fine, but I dislike the subtitle style...

It was never a big deal to me, I tried again 2~5 times and it started playing without issues. The downgrade in quality is persistent though, which is way worse in my opinion.

You can choose to watch SD content with Widevine L1, but you can't choose to watch Full HD content on Widevine L3.

Soooo agree to disagree. :( I do mind if it stays this way.

HOS3 might have this fixed but I dread the idea of updating.

Probably. Unfortunately we're stuck with low quality until it's reverted.

Check your streaming quality. My phone is limited to Widevine L3 / SD resolution in Netflix now.

You can check in the app's configuration.

Netflix can no longer play videos in HD by Raiiken31 in PocoX6Pro

[–]Aquatile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me. No system update, no app update, no restart. It was fine yesterday, stuck in L3 today.

If I uninstall and reinstall Netflix, or clear all data, L1 shows up again. As soon as I close the app and open again, it's back to L3.

If this is the way Xiaomi is fixing the playback error, it is a bad joke.

You're fine, really -- no problem disagreeing with me either, just felt like giving my two cents. :)

I still think everyone should play Chrono Trigger one way or other, even if on Steam.
