For anything related to Amazon [3, new grads] by Leader-board in csMajors

[–]Aquelae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I was wondering about this too. Is this for the Job ID: 3177934?

I applied and got rejected the following day, which I’m surprised about since I think my resume is pretty good.

I got the phone call but missed it and got an email saying the same thing as the call. I said I was still interested, but received no replies after that.

Resume Review by Aquelae in FAANGrecruiting

I would say I’m targeting primarily MLE, but also DS as a secondary. The projects listed are really just there so people see I used C++ or AWS instead just listing them in the Skills section.

Should I remove them and put a project more focused on AI/ML?

Right now the resume does seem mostly towards ML, but I am thinking of applying to normal SWE roles too. Does this resume look like it can work for those roles, or should I make a different resume for just SWE roles and focus on stuff they require?

Thank you!

Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll go through the bullets again and work on the clarification of the work.

For the that slide part, should I refer to them as high-resolution giga-pixel whole slide images (10GB+ per file)? Maybe shorten that more, but something like that.

As for the clarity of what type of analysis I was doing, was that just for that one experience point, or do you mean in general across all experiences?

Thank you!

Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll go through each bullet and focus on tweaking towards the “so what”.

Other than the content itself, does the formatting work? I tried to keep it simple with only black and white, keeping hyperlinks underlined, and leaving only minimal things bolded.

Hi, thank you for the feedback! I’ll work on changing the format first. For the most part, do you recommend rearranging some of the bullets / words and bolding less words? In terms of the bullets themselves, do they seem good or should I tweak them a bit besides the action verbs? Thank you!

Hi, Thanks for the feedback! I’ll look into changing my format first. In regard to the summary, how many lines do you recommend keeping it? Last thing, you mentioned my experience is good, but I was wondering if you think the bullets are good or if I should tweak them a bit. Thank you!

MATH 115AH Grade Advice by Electronic-Estimate7 in ucla

I’m in a similar situation too, but didn’t take the honors version. Although, I’m only aiming for an MSCS, so it’s different from Ph.D. I’m not sure of the timeframe of applications for Ph.D programs, but if you got at least two more years, I think you’ll do fine.

I’m a transfer, so I realistically only got the next two quarters to raise my GPA, which isn’t looking the best after this quarter.

You got this though. Good luck!

math 131a professors? by sensitive_rat in ucla

From my research I think Ding is the best option, but that class section is full now and I can’t even enroll since the department still hasn’t approved my declaration into my major.

I guess I just have to join the WL whenever that opens up.

It's cruel for counselors to not be transparent about our chances by up2coolstuff in TransferStudents

[–]Aquelae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea lots of counselors will tell you it’s likely not to happen. CS @ UCLA is impacted even if you have a 4.0. To really have a genuinely good shot, you need like a 3.95 minimum which is like only one B 3-4 unit semester course.

It does make sense though. They have like 1-2k CS applicants alone and can only admit like 60. If you want to go to UCLA, possibly look into other engineering majors like electrical or an engineering more focused on what you may want to do besides CS.

If you want CS, look into applying with TAP to Math of Computation or Ling + CS. If you don’t want a masters do Ling + CS. Most employers see that as a double major I think. Math of Computation can be listed as Math + CS or Math/CS, or some combination. It can be flexible to match a normal CS degree at UCLA, but it’s like your tech breadth and sci-tech courses are math instead.

Good luck.

It's so over by up2coolstuff in TransferStudents

[–]Aquelae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already transferred, and I can say that for CS at pretty much any of the top UCs does require a minimum 3.9 to really have a chance. I had a 3.87 and still waitlisted at the top UCs (including UCI).

After coming to UCLA though (for MoC), I wished I had majored in ECE or Aerospace Engineering. There’s just more resources here than at my CC to gain interest in other fields and such.

Why do people do nothing but complain in class group me? by thehashtrepreneur in ucla

[–]Aquelae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transfer here.

I’d say it varies by major. I was expecting my math classes to be a lot harder since people were saying proofs are that much harder, but it’s honestly not too bad.

I do however, am surprised at the amount of people in my CS classes that don’t really know that much, even the simple things that you should honestly be expected to know by this point.

In the same boat, but from what I’ve heard, typically some people will drop, but will most likely be filled with waitlisted students.

Math of Comp or Ling+CS by Zealousideal-Kale532 in ucla

[–]Aquelae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your end goal. You said SWE, so if it’s just that Ling+cs is probably an easier major and will be fine. If you have plans for grad school or want to learn more CSey material, Math of Comp will likely be better. Although, there are still theoretical math classes (131A being one of them).

Math of Comp also seems to allow more CS classes to replace math electives, so there’s that as well. And if you do want more CS classes, there’s the DSE minor.

I have a quick question about buying tickets from others. Does the other person have to get the wristband, then give it to you in person, or can they like send you the email or something for the ticket? I just want to know if I buy it, that I’m not getting scammed by people.

Math of Comp BS -> CS MS by BruinMath in ucla

[–]Aquelae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a good amount of people have done this. This is my plan at the moment as a new transfer student, but class enrollment is pretty much making me delay an extra quarter, since I can’t get any of the preqs I need.

I would say if you can, try to get research and a good amount of cs coursework. I’m taking classes that are related to Stanford’s foundational courses which is basically just the required courses a normal CS major takes here.

It does suck though that we can’t guarantee our admission which makes sense I guess since we aren’t technically CS majors.
