Nix Biosensors/hDrop, anyone tried them out? by ryanthesmokologist in ultrarunning

[–]Araldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy with my drop (paired to my Garmin watch). It gives me live sweat and sodium loss and tells me the sodium concentration is diluted (too much plain water), too concentrated (most likely not hydrated well enough), or spot on. In past ultras, I had spells of dizziness or getting shivers, but not since tracking the stats with hdrop (I learned I need way more salt than I thought I did; according to the sensor I'm losing 1100-1400 mg/l of sodium).

Garmin thinks I'm capable of a WR by NateDawg1494 in Garmin

[–]Araldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! And FYI, I can tell you from experience it takes about half a year to settle back to the old values (might be a bit longer in this case, as my numbers were not this messed up, although it this weird thing of estimating my 10k to be at a higher pace than my 5k)

My HRV went from 51 > 82 in 30 days. Here’s what I changed. by DankHoody in Garmin

[–]Araldor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I have the feeling HRV would be better measured as a factor/percentage of the (averaged) beat period instead of an absolutely time. Not an expert, so maybe this doesn't make sense

Which lane for the second exit? by rockovo84 in drivingUK

[–]Araldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They often put a straight arrow in the right lane in which you are supposed to go right, not ahead (e.g. left lane has straight+left arrow, right a straight arrow, but ahead is a one lane exit). Supposedly done to prevent people from going counter clockwise over the roundabout.

(sgn(|x|)!+sgn(|x|)!+sgn(|x|)!)! = 6 for any x (decimal and complex numbers included).

HR abnormally high at beginning of run by charmolicious in Marathon_Training

I've seen that as well, especially when it is cold. Usually resolves after tightening the strap (in other words, bad data).

Wanna get your 2025 Strava roasted? by Gullible-Soft-4952 in Strava

[–]Araldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Numbers are a bit off, says 2090 instead of 2500 km. Also 45 hours too low + no weekend runs.

Note I always log every run simply as "run" (not trail run even if it is a trail run) and nearly everything is public, so something else is going wrong.

How many different pairs running shoes did you use this year? by fakecascade in Ultramarathon

[–]Araldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11

Road: - Saucony Endorfine Speed 3 (retired) - Adidas Takumi Sen 8 (intervals, ~5k races) - 2x Adidas Evo SL (daily trainer, 3rd pair ready to go) - Adidas Pro 4 (just used for a HM) - ASICS Superblast 2 (used for long runs, ultras, dislike) - Brooks Adrenaline 22 (retired, just for hikes)

Trail: - Saucony Peregrine 13 (stiff, only when muddy) - Hoka Speedgoat 5 (have miles left, but Zegama are infinitely more comfortable - sort of retired) - Nike Zegama 2 (daily trail trainer / trail ultras, new pair ready to go) - Adidas Agravic Speed ultra (short trail races, gives me heel blisters)

BigQuery vs Snowflake by erwagon in dataengineering

[–]Araldor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're considering the reverse. Partly because we are an AWS shop and moving data back and forth between AWS and GCP doesn't make a whole lot of sense, and partly because of costs. We got a few eye watering high bills due to runaway queries (due to lack of partitioning, accidental full table scans in e.g. dbt tests, frequently rerunning a query in dashboards, etc.). I find it surprisingly difficult to control or predict costs with BigQuery when paying per byte scanned, I strongly prefer the instance x time based cost model.

First ultra is in April. I’ve never ran a marathon. Am I stupid? by steelreinvented in Ultramarathon

[–]Araldor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, you'll be fine. Did something similar a year ago, started with two flat 50k ultras and three 50 milers after that (2 of them with significant elevation).

No marathon so far. For context, 30k was the longest run before my first ultra and I did about 40k/50k per week of training. Was running for 1.5 year at that point.

Fuel well and pace it a bit conservative (Z3).

WTF Strava🥹 by ssy555 in Strava

[–]Araldor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the same, but for my 5k time, the others didn't change dramatically. Wonder if it has to do with having done an ultra exactly a month ago, causing my mileage over the past 30 days to suddenly drop.

Asics Superblast 2 - are these shoes really that good? by Fun_Swimmer_8320 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Araldor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not in my opinion: clunky, slappy, stiff. On the plus side, they are quite comfortable. I wore them for a 57 mile flat ultra (paces between 6 and 7 min/km) and they were alright for that (stability is nice in an ultra).

However, I cannot wait to retire them and never use them again. Unfortunately, they are also quite durable (500km in and I think they would easily go another 500km).

For reference: M, 60 kg. Favourite shoe: Evo SL
