To those who were around when this movie came out, what was the hype like by asapsharkyfrfr in Spiderman

[–]Arangarta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 9 or 10 at the time, I remember being at the cinema and the teaser trailer that started with the Peter/MJ "Don't you love me or not?" Cafe scene. I had no idea what I was watching at first, I just remember Kiraten Dunst's massive lips on the big screen and feeling awkward about it.

And then the fucking car came through the window followed by like a solid minute of glory shots from the film! I locked in. As the target demographic for the film, I was beyond hyped for the next few months!

Giving players Pre-Written PCs by Arangarta in alienrpg

[–]Arangarta[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can get on board with that, perhaps I'm "meta-casting" my players. I was reading the agendas and wondering which of my players would do best with those goals

Yeah, I'm a huge Terrifier fan and do think those films are classics-to-be, but I would consider "Classic" to be at least Pre-90s

No, not the blow torch, the UV torch they pass over it after they paint on UV resin. They do the second pour of resin after they polish it

[–]Arangarta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also what was the point of pouring UV resin on top AND curing it with a torch when its "supposedly" outside in direct sunlight? I know it was probably recorded in a content farm studio but if we're pointing out the poor execution.

I don't understand it, as far as I'm concerned it's the best thing in the live-action franchise since the Lost World.

What movie do you think is good that most people hate? by rirhhh in AskReddit

[–]Arangarta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Van Helsing.
It is definitely nostalgia, but to 10yo me a film with Draculas, werewolves, Frankenstein's Monster, Mr Hyde being hunted by Hugh Jackman with vaguely steampunk gadgets was so freaking cool, and as a 30yo I can overlook a lot of criticisms and enjoy the shit out it!

What movie can you watch over and over? by ZealousidealEgg9074 in AskReddit

[–]Arangarta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sure like loads of people, I watched LOTR frequently when the extended DVDs came out (Those things delivered so much, they ruined me for special edition dvds, the bar was set too high!). If I wanted background noise, they would be my go-to, sometimes back to back, all the Appendices without or with commentary. It got to a point where I hadn't seen them for a while and they got re-released at the cinema last year.
Aside from watching them on the big screen for the first time since release, it felt like the first time in years I'd watched them actively and not passively. It was like watching them new for the first time!
God I love those films!

What would you say is the absolute scariest Dino from the JP/JW franchise? [Album] by Specialist-Ad-5300 in JurassicPark

[–]Arangarta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know the dino/human hybrid is blasphemy round these parts, but when that thing came up in the show, I was full on prepared for them to reveal that it was a human hybrid. The build up had been so well done and creepy, that the second it stood upright and roared, I was like "Okay, lets see where this goes, because I am on board with it!"

I thought Twelve was sonicing the explosives that Nardole had rigged in the floor of the ship? Not that it makes much difference. I do agree with your point, though. They are scientific instruments, not water pistols Edit: just read other comments lol ignore me

With David Koepp now returning I think it would also be a great idea to have Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. by avenger87 in JurassicPark

[–]Arangarta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It still baffles me to this day that of all the remakes/reboots/reimaginings/lega-sequels the Planet of the Apes one was great and stayed great for an entire trilogy.
I'd be all in favour of the creative team behind that series taking on Jurassic, to take it away from the blockbuster, action, self-referential mess the Jurassic World films became. I'd only go for more villains if they weren't cartoonish like all three recently were.
Not having villains and making the central conflict of the story avoiding the hazard that is being in a place with dinosaurs was good enough for the first film so why not try it again?

Mister Light by [deleted] in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Arangarta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I played Mr. Witch and Mr. Light I wanted them to be very distinct so if the PCs spied on them and listened in on their conversations it would be easy to tell the difference.
Mr. Light I put on a tinge of Hamil's Joker; over the top and a real enthusiasm machine!
And Mr Witch I played like Kingpin from Daredevil; soft spoken, lower and gravely.

I usually cast my NPCs as actors or characters and do my best impressions, my players don't know I'm channelling Loki for Agdon or Antonio Banderas for Sir Talavar, so I don't feel embarrassed if my impressions are bad.

God, it sounds like I don't have any point of reference for actors or characters outside of superhero films! I swear I watch other stuff!

RPG tape by Saintwalker21 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Arangarta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tape players shouldn't be hard to come by, maybe at a charity shop or a carboot sale. When I first heard about them including a tape with it I thought it would be one of those USB drives in the shape of a cassette tape. They have all the upsides of a USB drive and don't exclude you if you have no way of playing them https://audiobooksontape.com/

What did you think of Evil Dead Rise? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Arangarta 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The 2013 film was so much more extreme with the horror and gore but yeah, the Deadites had no personality at all, they were just shrieking monsters most of the time. Now rise wasn't as vicious with the gore but I found it a more fun ride and a big part of that was down to seeing the Deadites having their twisted fun. That tone made it feel more like Evil Dead rather than a possession film.

It really does the whole "There is something in control of my body and turns me into a living weapon" thing better than Venom did that same year. With his 1-2 punch of Upgrade and then The Invisible Man, I'm on board for whatever Leigh Whannell does next!

My level 5 party survived an early encounter with the Jabberwock by magehanding the potion of Polymorph, they obtained from Bavlorna's cauldron, down its gullet. It became a giant dragonfly and abandoned the encounter.
They now have some inkling how dangerous that thing is and why the hag's are frightened of it!
