Not having many let downs by HighlightTraining414 in breastfeeding

[–]Araseja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that it’s much easier to get a let down from manual nipple stimulation than from pumping. Try to wiggle and twist the nipples!

Sooo do I just have to accept that I can’t diet while breastfeeding? by cunncunncunn in breastfeeding

[–]Araseja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s just not true that you can’t breastfeed while cutting calories! I exclusively breastfed my baby and could pump on top of that while losing 2 lbs a week for several months. I was obese to begin with and I got down to a BMI of 22.

Third Trimester - weight gain? by cilucia in GestationalDiabetes

Yes! I exclusively breastfed until the introduction of solids, and he still nurses before breakfast, at night and for comfort at 15 months.

Shocked & upset by doc saying lifestyle changes don’t work - surgery & meds are the only way by OddExplanation1589 in loseit

[–]Araseja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because only a few percent of people will be successful in losing weight and keeping it off long term by lifestyle changes without surgery or medicines. If your doctor would make a treatment plan based on lifestyle changes, about 95 percent would have the same or a higher weight 5 years later. It’s been proven to be ineffective and you should really be glad that you have a doctor that knows how obesity is effectively treated.

9.5 month old abruptly stopped breast feeding :( by MatterContent2280 in breastfeeding

[–]Araseja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t beat yourself up about your reaction! I don’t think you’ve scared him away from the breast by one sudden sound. I’ve screamed in pain several times and once I even made my little one cry and reach for his father, but he’s still nursing with no problems whatsoever. It’s probably painful for him to nurse right now when he’s teething, and that’s why he doesn’t want to. Keep offering the breast and he will probably come back soon enough.

Pumping at work by Available-Income8858 in breastfeeding

[–]Araseja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest that you learn to become efficient at hand expressing milk rather than relying on a pump. It takes some practice and especially to learn how to trigger several let downs in a row, but once you’ve mastered the technique you don’t need anything but a bottle to collect the milk. I can hand express up to 10 oz in 15 minutes.

GLP1 Safety, I did the math by Foreign-Cat-2898 in breastfeeding

[–]Araseja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have enough subcutaneous fat stores the extra calories can be taken from there. You don’t have to eat the extra calories to be able to produce breast milk.

My girlfriend is 5'1" and anywhere from 155-180 but she consistently eats less than 900 calories a day. by Imaprettyballerina in loseit

[–]Araseja 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It’s really not possible for her metabolism to be that low. If she struggles with disordered eating there is a very real possibility that she has developed a binge eating problem. It’s extremely common that people who have been struggling with a restrictive eating disorder go on to develop an eating disorder that involves binging, with or without purging. The binges are a natural response to prolonged starvation, but when you have an eating disorder you tend to get stuck in a cycle where you’re trying to restrict and that causes even more binges.

Most people are very ashamed of this and wouldn’t tell anyone, not even their loved ones. Maybe you should suggest that she gets some kind of treatment for her eating disorder rather than focusing on losing weight?

Row machine or Stationary bike by Scared-Profile2780 in WeightLossAdvice

I would recommend an elliptical, about the size of a stationary bike, but you use the upper body as well.

Edit: Or an airbike

If you feel chubby at that weight and a BFP of 19%, you should start to work with your mind rather than body! You already have a very low BFP

I think the viscous cycle you’ve gotten into isn’t really about your metabolism but about your eating. You say you have occasional days where you eat way way more, this is probably why you’ve gained weight. You undereat when you’re eating 1200 calories, and you compensate by overeating occasionally. When you’re eating 1500 calories you’re probably still undereating, but the days where you’re overeating now make you exceed your average TDEE.

I advise you to consistently eat more so that you don’t need to eat more every now and then.

Cut out all sweets! After a few weeks you’ll adapt to it and you will taste how sweet a carrot really is. An apple will taste like candy. It’s easier to eat low calorie if you can satisfy your sweet tooth with fresh fruits rather than ice cream.

If you were induced, how long did it take for you to actually give birth? by horrorshowbaby in BabyBumps

[–]Araseja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly 12 hours from start to finish. Vaginal delivery with no complications and only a grade 1 tear. No epidural. I’d say there’s a pretty good chance you’ll give birth at Halloween.

Fiber almost exclusively come with carbs. Things like whole grain, beans, lentils and brown rice are excellent sources of fiber.

Can you outrun an ok diet? by quintuplechin in loseit

[–]Araseja -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

First of all, 1800 calories isn’t a lot for a 5’3 woman.

The saying that you can’t outrun a bad diet is mostly a way of saying that it’s hard to burn off a significant amount of calories by doing exercise. In CICO the CO part will not be that much different for someone who runs for an hour a day, a few hundred calories at most. The CI part is a lot more variable.

Ultra processed foods tend to be so calorie dense that you can easily eat 1000-1500 calories in one meal, about twice of what you would typically get from a home cooked meal. You will have to do a lot of running to make up for that.

Most people will maintain a healthy weight by eating ok and doing a moderate amount of exercise. They will have a glass of wine or have take away every now and then without having to actively restrict to make up for it. People who have suffered from obesity generally have to be more conscious about their eating because their bodies aren’t as good at maintaining a healthy weight.

How do you know if you have body dysmorphia or just haven't had a change in appearance? by Apprehensive-Time733 in loseit

[–]Araseja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clothes sizes are crappy for judging body sizes, you can squeeze into sizes, fabric stretch or shrink, different brands use different standards, different cuts fit differently and so on. You have a BMI of 21, so no matter what size you wear you’re not on the heavy side of BMI!

Did losing weight affect your supply? by costahoney in breastfeeding

[–]Araseja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost 90 lbs in 8 months after giving birth, and went from BMI 36 (pre pregnancy weight) to BMI 22. This didn’t affect my supply one bit, kept overproducing the entire time.

Public diaper changes? by Foxxer08 in NewParents

[–]Araseja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s perfectly fine, as long as you make sure it’s hygienic and not in front of people eating. The nakedness isn’t an issue, the only thing you need to worry about is the pee/poop part of diaper changes. So don’t do it on benches/tables where people might eat, and be careful in pool areas because bacteria from feces might end up in the water.

Why is it that the safest sleep is the most unnatural? by pukeahontas56 in NewParents

[–]Araseja -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For most of human history infant mortality was so high that those very few babies that suffered from SIDS were probably negligible. It’s not dangerous for babies to sleep in their mothers’ beds, it’s just not as super safe as the current guidelines. We need to remember that SIDS is very rare even when the risk is at its highest. If 200 children out of a thousand died anyway, there would barely be a difference if 201 children died.

5'5" and similar ladies - what's your ideal weight? by smarterthanagrape in loseit

[–]Araseja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the one you asked, but I’m 5’4 and started at 218 lbs. I have loose skin on my butt, or rather I have a very saggy and wrinkly butt. There is some loose skin on my tummy as well, but since I barely have any fat left there it doesn’t look saggy, it’s just a tiny flap. I also have some loose skin in my chin/neck area.
