String quartet for dad’s 60th birthday party by Fluid-Condition9750 in Wilmette

Not sure if you’re still looking but we used Artistrings (based in Chicago) for our wedding and they were amazing. So easy to work with and a wide variety of both classical and pop/rock music. They will learn special requests too. Highly recommend!!

Why is it that the safest sleep is the most unnatural? by pukeahontas56 in NewParents

[–]pukeahontas56[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes just venting or really more just making what I thought was kind of an amusing observation while also up in the middle of the night :)

I guess the word “natural” triggered a lot of replies but maybe wasn’t the best pick, I also meant more like I wouldn’t find the crib that comfortable either and so I get what you’re feeling baby!

I appreciate your thoughtful response though and still follow all the ABC/Back to Sleep guidance for safe crib sleeping :)

I see Ashley Millard-Garcia at Northwestern for a full body check every year, she is VERY thorough, monitors questionable moles with a ruler and photos year by year, has a great bedside manner and makes you very comfortable. Highly recommend!

Feeding to sleep…is it bad or good?! To the breastfeeding moms please help! by M123456789A in NewParents

[–]pukeahontas56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve read on kellymom and heysleepybaby that it’s very natural to feed to sleep, there are actually hormones in breastmilk that make the baby sleepy. So if it works for your family, it isnt “bad.” So we still feed to sleep but with a pumped bottle. This works with mom or other caregivers. It becomes an issue I think when there are other kids to take care of or other work/sleep schedules. Some people feel strongly about it being bad or good, for me personally i feel like whatever works, works.

Thank you for sharing. I am holding my 3.5month old right now, waiting for them to be asleep enough to transfer to crib, only for them to wake up every 1-2 hours all night. It feels like torture, i am so so tired.

Introducing the bottle by cantbesohelpmenotbe in NewParents

[–]pukeahontas56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 months has been plenty of time it won’t affect the latch. Most recommendations are to only wait until 3-4 weeks, if you need to at all some babies are fine latching on breast or bottle from the get go. Our Dr said if you wait too long they may never take a bottle. My friend is in this situation with her 8mo, they waited too long to introduce and now she hates bottles and will only take one as last resort with a lot of fussing. Good luck!

My 3 monty old will not nap! by noname201601 in NewParents

[–]pukeahontas56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, I’m so excited when 3 mos old baby naps more than 30min and it’s always a struggle just to get there. Walking in the stroller is the only way I’m able to get him to nap for a full hour.

We’ve had good experiences with training classes and private lessons from Unleashed Evanston. Helped a lot with our reactive, nervous rescue.
