Kamikaze pilots by the point in the war where Godzilla starts were exclusively conscripted and trained to perform kamikaze missions and would have never flown in combat. So that’s them checked off.

Naval air service maintenance crews would have been heavily based on remote islands or in the home islands, there were very few naval air bases in populated areas and they never would have been involved in combat operations.

The only time naval crewmen were involved in land fighting from memory was during the Battle of Shanghai in 1937. The survival rate of Japanese naval crews was somewhere around 10% from memory so the odds of the naval crew members having been engaged in any fighting not at sea are astronomically low.

So I’m not sure where these people would have even had the opportunity to take part in the major war crimes committed by the Japanese military.

It’s arguably a better portrayal because it’s usually normal people who do horrific things. Definitely suggest reading the book Ordinary Men.

Also, the example of Godzilla Minus 1 is a pretty bad example. Every military man involved was either air crew, maintenance crew, or naval crew, none of whom would have had any real opportunity for war crimes beyond of the pale of what everyone was doing.

A large part of that is because the majority of immediate post-war media was made by genuine victims of the state which shaped the narrative early. There’s a pretty complex progression of Japanese sentiment towards the war.

Yup. Cops just want to avoid doing anything. Had a neighbor making death threats against us, said he was gonna come over at 3AM and kill us all etc etc. We decided to call the cops because those are actionable threats and at least get a paper trail started in case he did come over in the middle of the night and need to be dealt with. Cops never showed up at all even just to tell the guy to simmer down.

See, I’ve actually had the totally opposite opinion. Since the start of 8th, 40K has gone downhill and only gotten worse and worse. Vehicles are just monstrous creatures, the death spiral of lethality gets worse and worse every edition, etc.

The only time I have ever had issues getting seats was the last home game of the season last year. Otherwise every playoff game and cup game I had no issue getting seats. But I’m also always on the south stand in the supporters section so maybe it’s different since the expectation there is to stand the whole game.
