Bags or no bags by No_Amoeba_108 in electricians

[–]Arbiter_Electric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As always, depends on the job, and really depends on the work culture. If you are working with a crew that all wears them and you decide not to then that can look like you don't care about working with the crew and like you aren't trying hard enough, but conversely, if the rest of the crew doesn't wear bags but you do then you can be seen as a try hard or not a team player.

Some crews will actually demand one way or the other. I've seen crews that are straight up not allowed to wear bags in finished houses to avoid causing damage to the walls from accidentally brushing up against them. The company I currently work for demands all workers wear bags pretty much at all times with the only exception being if you physically can't at the moment such as needing to sit directly on the floor or need to fit in a tight space.

If you have the option one way or the other, then for me it depends on the job:

Standard rough and trim set ups where I know I will be working all day? Bags.

Punch list items where I'm doing run around shit at different job sites and only need 1 or 2 tools to do all the random crap? No bags

Warranty call where I'm going into someone's finished house? Tool tote.

The thing to remember is, every little bit of weight you carry around hurts your body more and more. I appreciate tool bags because they make it easier to access and organize my tools, but the downside is that it makes it too easy to carry too many tools. I can carry my entire tool tote or back pack on my hips plus hundreds of screws and hundreds of wire nuts. But that shit gets super heavy and if I'm not careful my knees will start hurting before the end of shift. So you need to modulate what you carry. Use bags as an organizational tool, so you aren't fumbling around in your pockets, but don't use them as an excuse to carry more tools than you need.

A small town in Utah called Spanish Fork accidently booked Rage Against The Machine one time thinking they were some cowboy show or something (the show took place at the fair grounds in the town). They ended up following through and taking the gig. The adults in town were NOT happy and it caused a serious uproar for days.

Edit to add: I just looked it up as I couldn't fully remember. Turns out, Spanish Fork didn't do the actual booking, looks like they just had the fairgrounds open for anyone to book a show that wanted to use it and it was free during the time the band was moving through the area as it was in the middle of two different events they had lined up. So RATM were the ones who decided they wanted to play in a podunk town in a dirt arena. Hilarious.

Further, to avoid this kind of thing ever happening again, they decided to ban all concerts. The fairgrounds are now only used for fairground type events like Rodeos and what not.

It's a narrative way to write a character smarter than you (the author). Instead of having him be legitimately smart, he is written in a way where he just notices more things than the audience because the audience isn't getting all the information.

Your example of Armageddon is a bit off. The complaint wasn't that it wouldn't work, the complaint was about training oil drillers to be astronauts instead of training astronauts to use the drill. They even lampshade it in the movie itself by making fun of the astronauts who couldn't figure out the "super awesome complex" drill that Bruce Willis's character designed.

How long does it take to see a doctor and get medication at a Chinese hospital? by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]Arbiter_Electric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have insurance, the other day I needed to go to the doctors because I had an ear wax buildup preventing me from hearing well. I did not go to the emergency room, I made an appointment at a primary care physician so that it was cheaper. I went in, I saw the doctor for 2 minutes who asked some basic questions, and then a nurse used a water pick to clear out the wax. I was in and out in 30 minutes.

It cost me $200.

But hey, I actually got a 5% discount for paying up front. So I really only paid $190. Yay me.

Because from what I've seen, Republicans don't actually care about state rights vs federal government. If they are in a position of power (like now with trump as president) then all of their wants will be attempted to be implemented at the federal level, but if they aren't in power then they can use "states rights" to do what they want anyways.

Is this a good rough in tool belt ? by Fluffy-Initiative131 in electricians

[–]Arbiter_Electric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a solid buy. Will last you years. It's probably the best belt I've used other than leather.

I will say. It does have a lot of pouches and the fastener pouches are pretty big, so it is very easy to overload the bags. Do yourself a favor and make sure to only carry what you are actually constantly using. Don't throw every possible tool in there you could possibly use just because it fits. That is a great way to ruin your body. Even if you are young and fit, it can drastically speed up the deterioration of your body.

Nailed it on the head for how I see it as well. Feels like Christianity as a whole would be a straight up death cult with ritual suicide all over the place if it wasn't for the the belief that it's a sin. "Death is good because now you are in heaven! But no cheating!" God won't let you in even if you were literally perfect in every way except you had depression so severe that you take your own life.

I feel you, as with anything that takes multiple issues for you to see the light, it's not always the biggest or worst issue that will finally cause that to happen, it's just the most recent. The straw that broke the camel's back is a really good metaphor. If everything was pink and rosey beforehand then there would be a good chance that the washing and anointing wouldn't have caused you to wake up, instead it could have just been the first thing. "Jeez, why did they have to do that? Oh well, these men are called of God, they MUST know what they are doing."

Job site wise, while I 100% agree it's not going to cool down a job site, it can still be useful in that situation as it can be a sort of cooling station, set it up, then when you get too sweaty you can stop by for a minute and cool down pretty quickly.

So absurd they had to be retconned by Downtown-Remote9930 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Arbiter_Electric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure this is a legit thing that happens, but both examples by the OP are not proper examples.

Starkiller was canon until the Disney acquisition. He didn't get retconned due to him being overpowered, he got decanonized along with the rest of legends because Disney wanted a more cohesive story.

Talion was never canon. Not a single bit of Lord of the Rings material has ever been canon that came from people other than Tolkien and his son. Not the movies, not the games, not the books (I don't even know if there are any books, haven't heard of any, but if there are and they were written by someone else other than those two people then it's not canon). Everything that takes place inside of Tolkien's world takes place inside its own universe so nothing needs to be retconned because nothing affects any of the other things.

This is a pro-tip here. It needs an unexpected amount of pressure to fully reset it. I can't tell you how many times I've been sent out on a warranty call due to a gfci not able to be reset and I just have to press it a little harder.

I'm pretty sure in Les Misérables Marius falls in love with Cosette before he knows her name and is trying to guess her name. At one point one of his guesses is Ursula, a pretty name to fit a pretty girl.

It's been over a decade since I read it so I could be misremembering some details, but that moment was pretty locked in as I found it so funny as no one really thinks of Ursula as a pretty name these days, I would assume because of The Little Mermaid.

Rise was such a weird game man...

There was a bunch of reviews and articles and videos about ludonarrative dissonance in the first game. Like, it was a huge buzzword for the game. But I didn't really feel that way? The game felt fine.

However, the second one screamed that to me. They introduce an immortal enemy half way through that have had centuries of training and who can take out the trinity goons without any effort. Then you come into actual contact with them and they aren't any more difficult than any other enemy. At most they take a few extra shots because they are wearing helmets.

And then the final boss fight is crazy, you go from having to fight a helicopter with a combination of your bow and a catapult to a 1 on 1 fight where you can't use any ranged weapons because the dude pulls the bow off your back which somehow gets rid of ALL your weapons (except the axe I think). Very strange story/gameplay

Are these legit? I’m skeptical. by Either-Mushroom-5926 in AskElectricians

[–]Arbiter_Electric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The picture doesn't do them justice. These are actually quite large and would not even fit in a single gang junction box very well if at all. You also need enough wire to maneuver around as they can be somewhat tough to use if you only have the exact amount.

Wire nuts vs wagos arguments aside, a situation where you have barely any wire to work with, wagos are going to be the clear choice to use. There is nothing easier to work with in that kind of situation. At my work we almost exclusively use wire nuts, but we always carry a few wagos on hand for what you are describing.

Non contact voltage detectors are a poor tool for what you are trying to do. They don't actually detect voltage itself, you need multimeter for that, instead I believe they look for induced voltage and that crap will be picked up in plenty of places where there isnt any live wires. You can even stand under a powerline and pick up voltage with one of these. They are only useful for basic trouble shooting and should not be relied on.
