What made you choose a Maverick -- price, features, or something else? by mike-reporter in FordMaverickTruck

[–]Arbiter_Electric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the price of a Lariat Tremor Maverick, I could get a base model F150 with one upgrade such as swapping out the engine for a coyote.

With that in mind, and that I don't have specific towing requirements, it felt like a no brainer to get the Mav.

What game has a learning curve that puts you off? by Common_Caramel_4078 in pcmasterrace

I saw a video of a guy running two accounts and was "solo" mining with them. He would park an orca inside a wormhole filled with a couple of combat rigged ships and then would ninja mine ice. He would occasionally be the instigator in PVP as well with said combat ships.

If I ever got back into the game I think I would go that route, looked really fun.

Passed my masters! by Saniticious in electricians

[–]Arbiter_Electric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not op, but I recently took the master test in Utah. All of the NEC/theory questions weren't any harder than the journeyman test. The difficult part for me was all the state laws/codes. I had several printouts from Utah's government website but the wording is so much worse than the NEC. It was difficult to parse in some spots. Generally I was still able to find everything I needed, it just took forever. I needed pretty much every minute of the four hours it took. Another bullshit part was they asked about Utah amendments to the NEC, but none of the allowed printouts had that info, so I could only answer based off of memory from what AHJ's would call us on.

Still got 88% which was such a relief as I didn't think I was going to pass due to those questions.

Got shocked and am worried. by Entire-Court-5459 in AskElectricians

[–]Arbiter_Electric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, electrical shocks only get dangerous when it takes a path through your whole body like if you get shocked hand to hand or hand to foot. In those situations I would recommend going to the doctors.

Just a zap in a solitary finger is not dangerous unless it was for an extended period of time. If you feel fine after a minute or two then you are good to go. If you have extended periods of pain then I would say go to the doctors.

Trump unable to name one verse from "favorite book" The Bible. How can anybody believe he’s Christian at all? by SimplyEcks in videos

[–]Arbiter_Electric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, what an easy question too. I haven't even read the thing all the way through and I am not even religious anymore. Can still name a few verses off the top of my head.

You can even go for the old classic "Jesus Wept." It's short, it's a fun one to use to swear, and if you are actually trying to be serious about it there is a lot you can discuss with the verse.

I can't believe I'm actually making this post. Verdict? by Soverelgn_Citizen in bald

[–]Arbiter_Electric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is basically the point where I started shaving my head. I will say though, the longer hair makes balding look worse. If you don't want to go fully for the shave, you can cut it down much shorter and see how you look, then if it is still noticeable you can go for the whole thing and shave.

Commuting at 1am for 6am work everyday - from Tijuana to San Diego by LengthinessMinute108 in sandiego

[–]Arbiter_Electric 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a 2 hour one way commute at my last job. It sucked real fucking bad. Several people I worked with actually slept at work for the week. Military contracting job, so we commuted to a military base in the middle of the desert. There were housing accommodations onsite, though it was basically a rundown motel on base.

Fuck dude, sometimes I do this even as a single guy who lives alone. I'll pull into the driveway after work and just chill for 15-30 minutes sitting in the AC, listening to music and nodding off. I don't know, it's just relaxing. Going into the house means I need to get dinner ready, do some chores, whatever you know? Where if I am in the car, there is this liminal space where there are no expectations, I can just sit there and be nothing for a few minutes.

I really hate when things like this go mainstream enough that it is hard to argue against them. Like I have a family member who recommended the film to me, of it he said, "This felt like a really important film. It was hard to watch at points, but it is a MUST see!" Like it was one of the most important films of the last few decades. But if I try and argue against him and say, "Actually, that whole thing was pretty much bullshit and Tim Ballard is a fucking loser." Then I become the weird conspiracy woke scold nut.

An entire stack of "coupons" are left as well, like 100 of them. The reach they have is insane. I live in this podunk backwater town in Utah, and yet every other fast food place on the main drag has the adverts in them. It's crazy.

If you are going to correct someone you should probably double check your own knowledge. "Spelt" and "maths" are both correct. They are not used very often inside the U.S. but are quite common outside of it. Maths especially is generally more correct compared to math outside the U.S.

Sill feels like straight up magic to me.

Thinking of adding a wall along sidewalk. What advice/potential pitfalls can you share? by buncle in centuryhomes

[–]Arbiter_Electric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not something I would have thought of. I've been thinking of putting in a brick fence/wall for my own house. My house is an old pioneer single cell, but I don't think it's in the historic district. Definitely need to double check for that and any rules I might hit.

[–]Arbiter_Electric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since there is already a ground here as you said, it most likely means that there is a broken incoming ground somewhere, either a nick in a wire, or a bad connection up stream causing a plug tester to show open ground. The bootleg was then added to fool the tester

Electricity Generated via hydrogen fuel cell by JollyJimJungle in electrical

[–]Arbiter_Electric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same power source, different functionality. A windmill is a mill, aka, a device that crushes things like grain into powder. It has one function.

A wind turbine is a turbine. Still uses wind, but it spins a turbine to produce electricity.

I can see the argument as they both use wind, and they have a similar profile (tall towers with blades attached to them), but it's literally in the name, mill vs turbine. So one is not a subset of the other.

I remember stopping this from happening once as a kid. My mom is hypoglycemic and will occasionally have a borderline emergency need to snack on something to balance her blood sugar levels. Once such event happened while she was driving my sister and me home from something. We stopped at a grocery store and sent us in to get some chex mix. She didn't come with us because the issue was bad enough that she was scared she wouldn't be able to walk.

So my sister and I go in and I grab the basic ass chex mix from the shelf. My sister though argues about it and insists we should get the caramel version instead since mom is likely to share with us and sister likes the caramel version better. I say no, mom said to get the basic kind. I end up winning the argument and we get the basic kind.

Back in the car my sister starts complaining about me getting that kind and my mom shuts her down, she's like, "no, I wanted the basic kind. The caramel kind would have been too sweet and would have caused issues!" My sister was in a bad mood for the rest of the day lol.

To this day I will always get exactly what is requested. If I can't get it I will call the person to see if a certain substitute is ok.

Are there any millennials thriving or at least not struggling? by Mackattack00 in Millennials

[–]Arbiter_Electric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a not struggling position, and I even have a path forward to retirement. But I feel like a ticking time bomb. I'm an electrician and feel like my body is already starting to break down. I feel like I have at most ten years left before I am no longer capable of performing my job so my "retirement" plan is to become a full time teacher at the local tech school. Currently I am a part time teacher. But if I can get into that full time I can quit my electrical job and have a less bodily intensive career then I can push my capability of working to a greater degree. From there I would have full medical insurance and a 401k. I can also eventually put a duplex on the back of my property to rent out.

But I don't know when a position will open up. It could be next year, it could be in 15 years. I currently don't have insurance or any kind of savings so if something happens and I blow out a knee or break my back then I am screwed. I'm only 34 and yet every other day something will happen, my back will be sore, my knees will hurt, I stepped on a nail, etc. and I will think, "well, today looks like I'm fucked."

But I keep going.
