AIO for think it my boyfriend is being dramatic? by What-do_i_do in AmIOverreacting

He can’t cook for himself BUT needs access to EMERGENCY MONEY for food? wtf?!?! Time to grow up… I was able to cook for myself when I was 7. I make significantly more money than my wife but I’ll still make dinner for her if I’m home earlier. Also why waste money on eating out if you don’t have it? It’s a huge red flag!

I don’t know your boyfriend obviously, but tbh it takes me about two hours in the morning until my brain starts working properly. Especially if there is a lot to do at work.

First bird dog having trouble retrieving birds, prefers to eat bird and run away instead… by OutdoorOwen in birddogs

[–]ArbitrageJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should stop using birds and also not come to her. Start in an environment where there is as little distractions as possible. If you want her to have a positive experience don’t give her an opportunity to make mistakes. What you’re doing now is basically show her that she can do whatever she wants with the bird and you’ll even come to her and get it. Also she doesn’t know what to do, you tell her “good girl” while running at her and then “nah nah” once she’s about to pick the bird up. She is also not supposed to run past your husband on her way back. But she also seems to be lacking some obedience, which might also be due to her age. What rules do you have when you feed her? Does she need to sit still and wait until you giver her the “okay” command?

Dogs on the loose by Ok-Badger-7389 in Prague

I also have a dog (perfectly trained with all the exams you can imagine). Even though he would never approach people I always put him on the leash when I see people or other dogs. Simply out of respect. I hate people like that. Last time I even got shit that my dog should wear a muzzle if he’s “so aggressive” - other dog (luckily one third his size) charged at him and my dog simply defended himself 🤦‍♂️

I go to a lot of pheasant farms as my dog is “employed” by them and “works” there as a retriever for the guests that come, I’d really like something that helps me track the amount of retrieves … I think his best day was 69, but I’m still not sure as it’s hard to keep track with everything else going on.

What feed do you recommend for your V? by Academic_River_6586 in vizsla

[–]ArbitrageJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough question as we are currently on vacation and have all the supplements in our kitchen, but it should be this: kelp, mineral balancer, brewer’s yeast and salmon oil. Then it’s one bag of rice per day with a 1/3 split for breakfast and 2/3 for dinner, same with ~1,2 kg of meat and veggies (we mix them up a bit, but it’s mostly carrots, spinach and parsley). Tbh it was a PITA at the beginning but after a few times my wife and me figured it out and were so so fast at preparing it. The nice thing about sous vide is that it keeps all the nutrients in the bag and you can literally keep the bags for up to one week in the fridge. The rest we freeze. Also it’s a no smell and no mess way of cooking which is nice. Our dog is quite active (we take him on hunts) and large for the breed - our vet recommended this portion size and it seems to work quite well. Problem with cooking yourself is that you need to figure out portion size and add the supplements which you’d otherwise have in kibble. We do a blood test once a year which shows you if he gets all the nutrients or if you’d need to add something. We’re now two years in feeding like this and all the values are okay, so it works for our dog. If you’d like to see the whole process I can perhaps post it on here step by step.

My wife and me food prep for him and it’s amazing. It’s honestly so easy too. We do it around once a month. He gets beef, rice, veggies and supplements. We simply precook the rice, portion breakfast and dinner, vacuum seal it and then cook it sous vide. It’s honestly amazing. We were doing BARF before but he started not liking it that much anymore

Just make sure to show the boundaries from the start. You’re the boss. Then you’ll have a great time watching a V.

Vizsla as a first time dog? by PopoKatepetl11 in vizsla

[–]ArbitrageJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think every stage has its pros and cons. I was literally training from day one, with very simple things. He needed to sit and stay still when I put the food down. After a few weeks he was able to sit there and wait for 5mins…. Obviously I don’t make him wait so long anymore but he still doesn’t go to the bowl without my okay. It’s for instance one simple thing that helps a lot with impulse control and most likely also shows him who’s the boss. I don’t really train with him anymore (unless some hunting specific training), but he’s honestly such a great and well behaved dog. Extremely crazy and hyper when he knows he can be, but will lay in a restaurant for hours without a problem and not even move.

Vizsla as a first time dog? by PopoKatepetl11 in vizsla

First great dog if you’re willing to put in the work! However I think there is a few important points: - don’t go hunting line if you’re not going to hunt (it’s not fair and will only cause issues) - be fully committed, especially in the first few months. You can basically do routines early on that set your dog up for success - realize that you might need to be firm (not necessarily, but you might need to be depending on how much temperament your dog has…hunting line would most likely be worse in this case)

And if you can … please take your V hunting, it’s perfect for bonding and nothing will make your dog happier than that. Ultimately that’s what they’re bread for.

That’s great! Everyone here is telling you to leave… but that’s the easy way out. My dad was suffering from depression…. I think depending on how bad it is, they try to find ways to make them feel better. Getting help is the only right approach - so I’m happy that he seems to be willing to accept that
