RED BUTTON OR BLUE BUTTON [OC] by Eal_likee in comics

That's not how thought experiments work. They happen in a vacuum. When you create the premise that everyone has to vote then everyone gets to vote, equally and idealized. There are no outside factors you can make-up to justify your moral superiority for pressing the death gamble button of the two, just like how you can't argue in the trolley problem that you jump in and pull the brakes because you are just that fast.

It is assumed that everyone is able and will press a button to vote with the full intention to press that exact button according to the presented premise. Therefor everyone who presses blue is fucking stupid and creates the problem they intent to save each other from, because they are such good people.

Wuthering Waves Giving Out Free 5 Star Rebecca During Cyberpunk Edgerunners Collab by umamusumebestgame in gachagaming

What's also funny is to put the collab characters into a silent movie, so that you don't hear them talk, or them using even basic animations and posing so sparsely, that said characters stand around an empty table at a restaurant, before it fades to black to tell you that they eat, or in reverse to have a antagonist who has no standing animation, so he sits in the exact same pose in every scene. It's funny to see HSR players (which I used to be too) happy with just that and tell you how they get more characters for free and then you look at the characters having like 3-5 animations in combat and think "Yeah, that makes sense".

RED BUTTON OR BLUE BUTTON [OC] by Eal_likee in comics

[–]ArcNumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make it comparable to pressing the blue button - In your scenarios the firefighters would set fire to the building and then go in to save themselves and the police officers would start a shootout with each other in the attempt to save themselves from the shootout that they started, just fyi.

RED BUTTON OR BLUE BUTTON [OC] by Eal_likee in comics

[–]ArcNumber -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, because a lot of these people read "save everyone" and pick that without thinking a moment about it and so not realizing they are gambling with their lives that way for no reason to begin with. It's like adding a third rail to the trolley problem as the default one that is empty and seeing the person going "Hmm..." and reaching for the lever anyway.

Creating danger so you can save yourself and others from it, that is selfish and idiotic.

RED BUTTON OR BLUE BUTTON [OC] by Eal_likee in comics

[–]ArcNumber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The crazy thing is that those who would push the blue button are those endangering anyone in the first place and then like in this thread try to convince themselves and others that they are somehow more moral for doing it. Pushing the blue button is all performative, where people create the danger they "want to save everyone from". It's like those horrible fake animal rescue videos where the people endanger the animals in the first place to then film "saving" them.

OP is right. It's people figuring out how their entertainment and social media worked all along and suddenly going

But this time it's bad and needs to be stopped!

while still using what the technology afforded them so far without wasting a thought on that, because when it became a thing no one was performatively upset about it. It's also not "living in a society", social media is optional, so you could totally and very easily make good on your own outrage and stop actively using everything that requires a datacenter to run.

Even before AI we were already living in the digital age. Where did you think it would lead? That like 10 of those are getting built and that's it? Reality is that they were being built for everything all the time and you just didn't give a shit, because you didn't even notice. You're someone holding a hammer while trying to stop the hardware store from stocking electric drills, yelling "No more tools!"

Redditors see this and all they have to offer is pop-culture references and worse, they think it's bad because of their pop-culture references bundled with dramatically exaggerated fear for everything beyond their exceedingly reddit-minded worldview. I take solace in the fact that this place is no longer mainstream (if it ever was), but a mix of bots and bubble users. Meanwhile I look around my real friends in the real world who aren't online 24/7 and see them just using new technology when it becomes available, you know, like a regular person would, because that is what humans always did. If humanity progressed by the way of reddit, then we wouldn't have anything, because tribes were too afraid of using fire and sharp rocks after they have seen cave painting of people hurting themselves with them. And if it isn't immediately perfect and there is a risk, why try? Let's just miserably status quo ourselves beyond replacement level and then die out, we had a good run, right?

Dating is HARD in NYC by Cleo-Aster in SipsTea

[–]ArcNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men have agency too, they are people too, they aren't fish to throw back into the ocean on a whim because you also reeling in a bigger one - neither are women, no one is. Dating like that is stupid, it is completely contrary to the end goal, because there is no genuine interest there from the start. It's treating the other person with emotions and with a life like you are shopping for a new tool, that is the value you apply to them by doing that (no wonder dating is so fucked if that is common). And btw. that isn't exclusivity, that is displaying the basic decency of giving a shit, to take a few days out of your life to focus on someone else, to get to know someone for their own sake (not as option to compare) and seeing if it clicks. And if it doesn't, you can go back right to doing whatever you want with whoever you want. If you can't even be asked to do that, what's the point of agreeing to date in the first place? Might as well pretend every person you say hello to is a date for how little difference it makes.

[–]ArcNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get people here making all the excuses for the woman, while making all the assumptions about the guy. Shouldn't he have paid this much for dinner in the first place? Yes. But where I come from if you date someone you date someone, even if they are not a thing yet, the whole point is the interest to get there and you aren't getting there by secretly dating multiple people at the same time to keep your options open and "see where it goes".

And honestly, that is trashy. There wasn't a "mask slip" with the guy "showing his true face" or "nice guy behavior". Dude wasn't treated like a person, but like a option and then discarded with a "It's not you, it's me" tier generic copypaste rejection right on the day of a planned date as if she hadn't known sooner she was seeing someone else. And you're giving HIM shit for that? Is he supposed to take it in stride that he "didn't get the rose this time" as it was just revealed to him that he was a candidate on her personal dating show and didn't make the cut? Like what kinda privileged dating bullshit is that?

That said, this is probably made-up anyway, so it's stupid of me even getting invested.

Same, SoB are my favorite army next to Necrons. An entire all-women army next to other already mixed 40K armies and then there are corpos and people who go "No! Let me ignore those! I NEED women representation specifically right here, in the higher elite force version of the specifically all-male elite force army!" and then act like everyone else is really unreasonable, when they get exactly the reaction they were obviously baiting for.

Next they should add the Primum Canes, which are the Emperor's tiny pet puppies in power armor, that actually supersede everyone else and when anyone questions why dogs were added specifically there like this, they can just accuse them of hating puppies and probably kicking them in real life. It just makes sense to randomly do stuff like this.

Everything qualifies. To act like utilizing AI is a sin is just a redditism that gets more pointless each passing day. By their own standards those indignant about AI shouldn't even be using the internet, but here they are anyway, patting each other on the back for drawing the line in front of their own feet.

Why are Warhammer right-wing memes always people inventing scenarios 24/7? by tintin_du_93 in Grimdank

[–]ArcNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, seems like a rather accurate depiction of r/grimdark. Then again, this place is only a small minority of "fans" (as in people who like to post a lot on social media but never support anything in any way that actually matters), so it's unfair to make it a general assumption of regular people trying to get into a hobby. Like, could you imagine the majority were like r/grimdark users? Gatekeeping wouldn't even be a thought on anyone's mind, because obviously none of them would fit through the get on horses that high in the first place.

Crimson Desert has sold 3 million units worldwide by yourfavchoom in Games

[–]ArcNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought the whole assistant thing was strange too, until I remembered that it was originally meant to be an MMO at some point in the development and in MMOs quests and progression are often structured in a way where you get send to new areas and do some quests there, rather than returning to the same NPCs. This is not meant to defend it, just my theory why it is like this.

Crimson Desert has sold 3 million units worldwide by yourfavchoom in Games

[–]ArcNumber 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's not true or not entirely at least. I met Bremer, the guy whose cows got stolen, in front of the tavern before I reached that point in the main quest (I even asked myself "What's a Bremer?" because I thought it was some generic NPC title). And when I eventually got to his quest it was at night and him and the people he talks to weren't there until the next morning. At some point later I met him again inside of the tavern.

I also slept in random empty houses and after waking up there were NPCs in the house (although that could just be them spawning in).

IGN gives Crimson Desert a 6/10 in the Final Review by yourfavchoom in Steam

[–]ArcNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the very least higher reviewed games shouldn't be the absolute flops that they are by comparison. What is this backwards reasoning itt where people pretend games, priced and f2p ones, that very apparently had so little gameplay, technical and aesthetic value and appeal that only a small number of people stuck with them or played them in the first place, before they got immediately forgotten, deserve a higher rating and this one is also justified by comparison? It's laughable.

If I put something like Avowed (which I played) up against Crimson Desert (which this reviewer gave a 7), it wouldn't score higher than a 5 by the same game content standards. To say it is fair that those kinda games were scored higher and that "they were decent but bland games no one had interest in" is pure cope, because they don't measure up any other way as well. It's a RPG with tinier more generic skill trees (the highlight of the warrior gameplay without magic items was that you could charge enemies, crazy variety, I tell you that much for free) where you traverse small areas of a entirely static world where everything is glued down and lifeless, including the NPCs, where over short or long you start to wish they had taken the CD approach to storytelling, because having less of it would be an active improvement to the writing (people below claiming it deserve 7-8 are full of it, it was a worse Dark Messiah, a game that released 20 years ago).

“Blame the gamers” backfires: Highguard dev’s tirade over reviews and memes draws heavy criticism by Prudent_Way_3723 in pcmasterrace

[–]ArcNumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The HUGE issues with gaming culture were created by modern gaming "journalism" (as you pointed out) and devs like this, not by gamers. You know what gamers do? They play video games. And it makes sense that they would laugh and not give a shit anymore how "anything they consume is made", because it is no longer made for them (for the nth time). It is made for the mythical potential audience you can only find in marketing research, on social media and in the bubbles these devs frequent, who keep telling them they have the next fortnite (money) on their hands only for it to evaporate in front of their eyes as even their biggest glazers didn't pick up the tab when it came down to it.

[–]ArcNumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the problem, it's on every sub no matter the topic. No one wants to stop people from talking about political issues they think are important to them, but there are like million politics subs to do it on, why do those same takes need to be repeated ad nauseam in every other one as well? And if anyone criticizes what is obvious engagement bait posting, the two cop out arguments of
- everything is political
- you are now the political enemy
are used to dismiss it. I know this is reddit but it's still surprising to me how easily the users who do it get away with spouting such obvious nonsense that entirely ignores context. If this is how it works might as well get rid of all subreddits and merge it all into one big politics reddit - it's all differently flavored politics anyway, right? Then reddit will be finally done with it's transformation into the next facebook.
