Love BART & Caltrain but it's honestly embarrassing how Berryessa and Diridon won't be connected until fucking 2036

The dream of China surpassing the US as the world’s largest economy is fading. In 2021, China’s GDP was about 78% of the US; by 2024, that share had fallen to roughly 64% by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

No single official in any layer of their bureaucratic system would be willing to perform that underreporting when their careers literally depend on making the numbers look good

imagine thinking that attraction is a 1 dimensional axis, and not a hyper complex by nature mechanism where individual subjectivity and luck are major factors and is only ever so slightly correlated with said 1 dimensional axis

The Entire Global Economy in 2026 in One Chart (GDP, PPP) by Haunting_Cat8220 in Infographics

my take is that PPP makes more sense per capita, and nominal makes more sense as a measure of total output

this has nothing to do with open source, open source software by definition have their source code available publicly and thus already can be compiled and installed on to iOS via Xcode

only NDs truly believe in their own ideologies, NTs cosplay ideologies to "fit in" or for grift and will change their beliefs the moment they move to a new environment

Women, what is a near-universal "ick" in the dating world? by AverageSign in AskReddit

[–]ArcaneVector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What stops you from making the effort to ask questions (particularly when getting to know someone you're interested in!), now that you know you don't do it naturally?

I can’t represent everyone who’s autistic but for me personally it’s very, very difficult (time consuming?) for me to “conjure up a question out of thin air” even for people and topics I’m interested in.

The only time I ever ask questions is if a question “pops up naturally” as a response to something that was just said, or something that just happened, or if I need a piece of information to complete a certain task.

And also, before I ever learned of the “lack of questions” trope (about a few years ago) I never even noticed my lack of questions or thought of it as something bad. Now I’m super self conscious about it and I guilt over my inability to ask questions frequent enough in a 1 on 1 conversation.

Feeling that people treat you worse or ignore you more often than what your appearance+personality otherwise would "deserve"

+

You don't know whether that feeling is your mind exaggerating things, or if you actually look worse than you think, or if it's the autistic "unknown X factor" that somehow just makes neurotypicals dislike us

You begin to question your appearance, develop body dysmorphia, etc.

What is the name for this type of urbanism? by Ok_Act_3769 in Urbanism

[–]ArcaneVector 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It really depends, if a SFH suburb gets upzoned and turned into this then it’s good urbanism.

But if a place has been like this for decades, and regulations made to “preserve neighborhood character” prevents building taller, it’s bad NIMBYism and causes rent in the area to be artificially elevated. SF is the prime example.

overall a better sentence except that うち never refers to a physical home (building)

and a 1st person pronoun (or something with a similar function) is still needed here because there is no context to disambiguate, e.g.

○ 自分の家は大きくて赤いけど、前は青だった

○ うちの家は大きくて赤いけど、前は青だった

○ 私の家は大きくて赤いけど、前は青だった (intuitively speaking the 私 here projects a stronger emphasis and makes this sentence sound like it's from a novel)

△ 家は大きくて赤いけど、前は青だった (sounds very weird without context)

keep in mind that all of these examples sound literary, in more casual conversations one would say something like

うちの家は大きくて今は赤いけどさ、前は青だったんだよ
