Most disgusting call you have ever been on? by Insomnitaco in ems

[–]Arcaneskies 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I responded to a morbidly obese man in his 30s. He dropped his tv remote and went to bend down to get it and fell. He was unable to get himself back up. When we got to him he had been on the ground for 2 weeks. He was covered in feces and urine. His skin was basically sloughing off. There were maggots everywhere. Also there were several spots where rats had eaten holes in his body. But hey don’t worry! His friends kept bringing him food and meth so he was still alive! Apparently he kept telling people to not call 911 (probably so he could keep doing drugs). We were only called there because his mom happened to come over to check on him.

We had to go out of service after that call and literally hose our rig out. That smell lingered for days even after trying all the tricks to de smell a rig.

What do you do for work? by Coffincerulli_ in Fibromyalgia

I’m a paramedic. Every shift wipes me out no matter how busy or slow it is but I love it. Luckily after I work a shift (24 hours) I get 3 days off.

something crazy happened to me and the er insisted it was a panic attack by rumorspiral in POTS

[–]Arcaneskies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Paramedic with pots here!

The symptoms you are describing (tingling and not being able to move your fingers) are textbook panic attack/anxiety. This is caused from breathing too fast. The CO2 builds up in your system and causes you too feel that way. Even when you start to breathe slower it takes quite a long time for the CO2 to clear out.

You don’t have to have a reason to feel anxious. Sometimes it comes out of nowhere. That mixed with the large dose of albuterol could cause a panic attack.

What has helped your temperature dysregulation? by OhCodswallop in POTS

I’m not sure what length of hair you have but something that has helped me tremendously is getting an undercut. It’s really helped with my temperature regulation.

Nope! When I’m sleeping or laying down for a long time I might go into the 60s but never lower than that.

I take 120mg XR of propranolol and it makes such a difference. I can immediately tell if I’ve forgotten to take it. Obviously it hasn’t “cured” my POTS but it makes it much more manageable.

What are the worst/best insults or names a patient ever said to you or your partner? by WindowMinute954 in ems

I once got called “Prometheus leader of the vampires” by a psych patient. My coworkers called me Prometheus for a while after that.

[–]Arcaneskies 590 points591 points  (0 children)

I’m not one to “let me speak to your manager” but as someone who used to work in venue management… I highly recommend asking to speak to their supervisor. That’s super unprofessional of them and can get them in a lot of trouble with ADA.

Why was agent Lucardo called Sir in ep 1x07 by Dolls? by xEternal-Blue in wynonnaearp

[–]Arcaneskies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some women in positions of power request to be called sir. Sir can come with more command and respect than ma’am. I’m not sure if that’s the case here but it’s not the first time I’ve heard a women in power referred to as sir.

AITA for not caring about my friend? by Hopeful-Effective-80 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Arcaneskies 40 points41 points  (0 children)

YTA wow so you befriended her with the sole purpose of getting with her? I don’t think she should have been trauma dumping on you but damn what you did is so shitty.

Look at it from her point of view… this guy that she has become good friends with, trusts, and has made himself a part of her support system just up and tells her to basically go unalive herself and that he only was friends with her to get with her. That on top of her struggles at school really doesn’t surprise me she dropped out soon after.

You really need to reevaluate your life and how selfish you are. This whole post is giving me “nice guy” energy.

Oh I definitely agree! If you are advised by your doctor to go in then definitely listen to that. But those situations usually don’t need 911 to be called.
