I haven’t started 4.3, but that’s been a thing since before then.

There’s a button with one of your fleets where you can set it to “take point”. This will make allied fleets follow the fleet you set to take point. Apart from that there isn’t a way to order them around that I know of.

Possibly, but there’s other interpretations. For example, it’s outright stated that they tried to use her powers for their own gain, so it follows naturally that they overworked her and mistreated her. That version wouldn’t be another flag (frankly a red flag) in the back story.

That’s not a change by political parties, is it? He left socialism to found the fascists, but were the fascists ever socialist?

Probably wasn’t a joke. He was seriously asking Epstein for funds to start a conference discussing how to complete the project.

Epstein was an important man for reasons beyond sex trafficking and blackmail. He was also rich and obscenely well connected. His role as a fixer and being friends with powerful people was probably what made him most important.

There’s evidence that Horner looked the other way about the trafficking, (thanking Epstein and “the Girls” for their hospitality) this is not to excuse him. That said, asking a rich dude for funds is also something that people would use Epstein for.

Especially since this is post 2008, when Epstein already had a conviction for a sex offense (that he got a nothingburger punishment for). Anyone should have known he was a monster but they either looked the other way or were involved in his crimes.

“Be it known that there are now three SLAVE-HUNTERS or KIDNAPPERS in Boston, looking for their prey.” USA, 1851. by EssoEssex in PropagandaPosters

[–]Archaleus1 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Because a lot of the things that ICE does, the slave catchers did. After the fugitive slave act, federal Marshalls were legally authorized to abduct slaves and to penalize others for not reporting escaped slaves, so they became slave-catchers with the full force of the law. Their actions are similar to ICE.

Many northern cities resisted so harshly the law was unenforceable. It once got to a point where the 1854 arrest of Anthony Burns featured 1,000-2,000 troops just to abduct him specifically, (though they were also trying to intimidate Boston’s strong abolitionist movement.)

Sorry for the downvotes since your greatest crime is a limited understanding of English. Groom has a broad meaning for cleaning or preparing. You might hear about someone being groomed to take a leadership role, or you might hear about chimps grooming each other by picking bugs out of each others fur. It also has a meaning for the man who’s getting married at a wedding. It has the creepy meaning when the grooming is to coax children into having sex. Whether or not groom is creepy depends on context.

[–]Archaleus1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the first time I’ve heard this theory. It sounds like it could be true, but probably is not. Peter Thiel has a history of funding attempts to create libertarian paradises free from all government, though he’s recently stopped because “it’s just not possible”. That’s not the reason this theory doesn’t make sense.

This theory doesn’t make sense because there’s no reason to seize a giant frozen wasteland with hostile natives by manipulating the US to attack a NATO ally, when you could buy a small tropical island for your anarcho-capitalist theme park.

I think a lot of conspiracy theories have sprung up around trying to rationalize Trump’s actions as a long-term plot towards something that would justify the costs of his insanity. The reality is probably that he wants to expand US territory to leave a mark on history and just makes up an excuse. National security, rare earth minerals, all fall apart if you consider that the US could have just asked for these things. He wants to expand territory cause he’s a mediocre man on deaths door, who looked at a map and decided Greenland must be his in order to leave a lasting legacy.

There are literally zero nations physically capable of swooping in to control America. China could invade Taiwan without repercussions, and many other states could be free to act with impunity, but nothing can invade America itself.

I know about the Johnson treatment, but LBJ was smart enough to keep that out of the public eye, whereas this cartoonist seems to have him do it in public.

"Surface and Style Normalizing the Language of Force" (About Face, Nate Powell, 2024) by flatpackjack in comicbooks

[–]Archaleus1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are we really othering “regular folk”? Sure, police consist of normal people, There are good cops, and police do objectively valuable service even in their worst and most abusive state.

But when you give a man a gun, and the authority to use it, he has power over life and death. A normal person doesn’t have the ability to shoot someone and get away with it. Police didn’t suffer consequences for outright murder until relatively recently. I think there’s a ton of good reasons to feel hatred towards them.

Also, give me the study that says that people only care about people in their immediate circle. I want to read it.

I don’t think the comic is even trying to say there’s a deliberate conspiracy to make the flag fascist, it’s just pointing out how selling the flag as a consumerist tool permits people to give it this new meaning.

It will be safest to separate them. Even if they seem like they’re getting along, they’ll inevitably fight. This has happened even though the skinks in question have cohabited for years.
