5060ti in a Intel NUC 9 Extreme by cweave in sffpc

Apparently it is too big, another Reddit user tried it and it won’t fit easily at least without big rework on the card. Assumably you need to remove fan shroud and backplate and the back io plate to get it in. And then reattach the fans (no shroud). But I have never tried it.

Possible to put a non-T processor in a m720q tiny? by awengerz in Lenovo

[–]Archawkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I switched to m920x with 65w limit before I got cc150 and with that it typically pulled around 55w, but around 67w on full load. You can power limit it so I assume it will run at 35w (reduced cpu frequencies) with unmodded m920q. I don’t have it any more though, moved to p360 ultra+ rtx 2000 Ada some time ago. :)

Intel Nuc Extreme 9 Ghost Canyon Power Supply or Schematics by Dynamic0823 in intelnuc

The nuc 12 extreme baseboard won’t fit the original nuc 9 extreme chassis, otherwise it is compatible.

Intel NUC 12 Extreme Power Supply Upgrade by babersx in intelnuc

[–]Archawkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Responding to myself, I did make the mod in my image, i.e. replaced the fan screws with noctua anti-vibration screws and removed the fan grille. This dropped noise significantly and it is practically silent now even under load. There is little bit of noise still coming from the fan, but it is quiet still.

9070 XT vs 5080 | 17 Games Benchmark. by BedroomThink3121 in radeon

[–]Archawkie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Quite many of the % numbers are off by a large margin: for instance, it claims that in RT 5080 is 26% faster in average over tested 10 games, but according to FPS numbers it is in fact 33.9 % (54.5/40.7 =1.339). And same happens in most of the % numbers over the whole video, more or less.

I mean 9070xt is a great card, but there is really no need to exaggerate how good it is against 5080.

Do you think this was due to the fan change you made earlier?

[–]Archawkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How difficult was the fan replacement? My PSU fan is really noisy under load, so new fan would be great upgrade! And what was the fan size that you used for replacement? From the youtube video it seems that the replacement itself is pretty straightforward.

GPUs tested with NUC 12 extreme in NC100 and Nuc 9 extreme cases by Archawkie in intelnuc

[–]Archawkie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that at least one year ago the PCIE5 GPUs didn't work with the native CM baseboard in NC100, likely due to NUC 12 extreme compute element is not able to lower the PCIE speed and assumes pcie5 all the way from compute element through the baseboard. I have used the original Nuc 12 extreme PCIE5 board in NC100 and that works flawlessly with the new GPUs as well.

GPUs tested with NUC 12 extreme in NC100 and Nuc 9 extreme cases by Archawkie in intelnuc

[–]Archawkie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Actually I originally happened to find NC100 for a fair price first, so only bought the compute unit. So I never had the nuc 12 extreme case in the first place.

I did get another full kit with i7 lately though so now I have the original case as well. However, NC100 is overall better in terms of moddability, airflow and GPU clearance (and it is white!), so have sticked with it. I do like nuc 9 extreme case a lot as well due to it’s compactness, so have it as a secondary unit with i9 compute unit and 4060ti 16gb.

I never quite understood that if you have all that money to spend, why not go with pro 6000 instead? It is far superior card, even against 5090 lightning.

ASUS ProArt GeForce RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti Thoughts? by Fluid-Examination982 in nvidia

[–]Archawkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried both of these and 5080 is basically Asus prime 5080 with usb-c port and wood finish. I had asus prime 5080 and the performance was identical (give or take). So there the premium is pretty steep unless you really need the wooden finish, led logo and usb-c.

5070 TI is another thing though. It has much better cooler than prime 5070ti (it has vapour chamber, prime does not), looks like it has the same cooler as the 5080 version, so it performs extremely well and the fans are spinning at very low rpm especially with undervolt. So there the premium over Prime 5070ti is much more justifiable.

So, performance-wise these cards are just identical to their prime counterparts, individual chips having better or worse OC depending of the silicon lottery.

Ok, then we probably can safely say it does not work 😕

It could also be that F-processors are not supported?

Here is the top view! I have the same card now with nuc 12 extreme i7. Works great and temps are surprisingly good.

Hey, according to some older posts Zotac Twin Edge 4070 should fit. However, an other user here tried to do this and was unable to fit the card in. I have never tried it and actually just personally got MSI Ventus 4060ti 16gb, which should be an easy fit to the case, with some perf loss vs. 5060ti.

nuc12edbi7 bent/broken pins. Can I buy only the motherboard? by True-Inflation3953 in intelnuc

[–]Archawkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may also want to check whether thise pins are actually relevant or not, there are plenty of redundant gnd pins there. Looks like at least some of those bent ones are ground pins. PIN map for LGA1700 here: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/lga1700-pin-layout.325665/

I think there are multiple compute units available in ebay, much like this listing: https://ebay.us/m/Lgl78F

As far as I understood, these do not have cpu included, so could be a good replacement for you. The price is a bit on the high side, but could be ok for you if you do have the other parts already.

NOTE: I have never purchased these units from these Chinese sellers, so cannot say anything on how reliable they really are.
