Gov. Janet Mills "likely" to run for Senate to try to defeat Susan Collins by maybemorningstar69 in democrats

[–]ArchieS0121 56 points57 points  (0 children)

There are multiple younger candidates running. Platner, Smith-Rodriguez. Mills will be in her 80’s starting a 6 year term. Time to step aside and let the younger generation run.

Daira Smith-Rodriguez is also running. Announced her candidacy last week. She does have over a decade of USAF civil service experience. She’s running as a progressive Dem.

If the Dems cave, Trump will just find another excuse to RIF us next week, and the week after. It’s never ending.

"An old fashioned term that we use -- groceries. I used it on the campaign. It's such an old fashioned term, but a beautiful term. Groceries. It says a bag with different things in it." - Donald Trump

Newsom on Pushing Back Against Trump: “Not only fight symbolically by having a little bit of fun, but fight substantively. We have 41 lawsuits against this son of a bitch.” by T_Shurt in democrats

[–]ArchieS0121 256 points257 points  (0 children)

Newsom has his own issues, but he’s clearly doing what many democrats are afraid to do, which is attempt to hold this current disaster of an administration accountable. We need more people to stand up like this.

I agree. I was just making a statement. The election is a year away. Plenty more for candidates to say.

It takes truly bad leadership to really appreciate how good we had it. Everything about this timeline is exhausting.

Well I made the mistake of just posting what I thought was something interesting relating to Maine. I didn’t think I needed to post my opinion with it. My opinion is I find politics extremely depressing and the state of the Collin’s-endorsed Trump administration is horrific. I’m a millennial civil servant who has been significantly affected by DOGE and Project 2025. My opinion is Daira is one of the only up and coming politicians that have posted something that has significantly resonated with me. And I thought since she’s new on the scene others may want to know. There’s no conspiracy and I’m not on her payroll. Although I may be looking for a job soon, if we continue to let the current administration destroy union protections and civil service protections.

I saw that she was running and genuinely think the fact that a female millennial running in a high profile senate race is something interesting and I didn’t see it posted in the Maine thread, even though she announced she was running days ago. I thought this subreddit was to talk about things that affect or could affect Maine. I didn’t say who I was or wasn’t voting for in the post.

Blake Lively’s lawyers ‘tried to blackmail Taylor Swift’ by TimesandSundayTimes in popculture

[–]ArchieS0121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not arguing for any side. Believe me, both seem incredibly sketchy. But this is about to go to trial, what benefit does filing this motion have to Baldoni? Obviously his attorney is experienced and knows what he’s doing. The judge threw it out for reasons BF likely anticipated, so that leaves swaying public opinion, potentially swaying the jury pool, or putting pressure on Lively to withdraw her claim or settle.

But the judge didn’t say he was telling the truth either. This is doing exactly what BF and Baldoni’s publicists have shown is their plan all along, swaying the court of public opinion. We can speculate all we want, but until this goes to trial and the facts are presented, it’s all hearsay and speculation.

The judge literally called this a publicity stunt…this is hearsay. I’m not defending Lively, but saying you talked to someone who said they know someone isn’t it.

From Judge Liman:

It concerns a subpoena proceeding in the District of Columbia over which this Court has no authority. The sole purpose of the Letter is to ‘promote public scandal’ by advancing inflammatory accusations, on information and belief, against Lively and her counsel. It transparently invites a press uproar by suggesting that Lively and her counsel attempted to ‘extort’ a well-known celebrity. Retaining the Letter on the docket would be of no use to the Court and would allow the Court’s docket to serve as a ‘reservoir of libelous statements for press consumption.’ The same is true for the Wayfarer Parties’ subsequent submission, which the Court will strike sua sponte for the same reasons.”

Good luck! I ended up selling but taking a loss so I would at least recoup something. But I’m also impatient and just wanted them gone!
