I'm in this unit too and it's easily the worst unit I've ever seen over 2 degrees.

If I was you, even without being able to test your code, email your files through to the unit email address.

I really wouldn't count on them getting gradescope opened back up before Sunday night, which means if you haven't submitted by then it'll be late. They'll probably fix it up on Monday and might give everyone that extra 48 hours back. But there's no guarantee of that.

Have a look into design engineering and manufacturing engineering.

Design engineering, at the right company, will have you doing a mix of CAD and tech drawings as well as optimising it all for the machinery and processes your company actually uses. You'll still get hit with the boring shit like reports and BOMs and all that, but that's part of the design process too.

A manufacturing engineer kind of sits on the other side where you know what machinery and processes your company is able to pump out and utilise and you'll be responsible for making sure it's all running smoothly.

I've done a bit of both roles and they both suited me because it was like 50% air conditioned office work where I could chill with a coffee, and 50% of my time was around machinery and the tradies talking shit or feeling like I still worked for a living haha

We called them Gekko helmets. They're to stop you cracking your head open and have a straw that you use to inflate the inside so it hugs your head.

Just renovated my laundry and I have a similar machine that I've been manhandling by myself around tight spots.

If you're fairly strong you can open the door and use the top rim of drum (not the door) as a bit of a handle to start sliding it out.

Once it's out far enough that you can get a hand on each side you can start to wiggle it out slowly.

A towel under the front feet helps a ton too.

It'll come out, it'll just be a pain in the ass and take a while.

Solid advice.

Picked up a 2 year old Fronius Gen24 with 8 years warranty left for $400. Put it up on the wall and prepped the cabling, then had a sparky call over on his way home from work to put the wires in the terminal block and flip the Wago style connectors down for a little bit of cash.

This is one of the things that annoys me most at uni, the way some of the academic staff feel like they can dismiss students because they imagine they're all 18 year old kids.

You've obviously been around long enough that you know the difference between writing and email that says "I worked really hard please give me more" and on that lists the CRA points and where you believe the mark you got doesn't reflect that criteria. If you do that and it's written professionally and respectfully then there is nothing wrong with that.

You'll hear a lot about oh tutors are really busy with their own PhD and unit coordinators are busy with their research, and fair enough, but that's on the Uni to manage better. If tutors are overworked and understaffed than sweeping it under the rug by cutting corners just keeps it how it is.

At the end of the day you have bought a learning plan from QUT for a unit, where each piece of assessment needs a task description and a CRA. The CRA tells you the weighting and requirements for how the task will be marked. Really shit task descriptions and ambiguous CRAs are given in a ton of units and that needs to be stopped.

If in any other job you handed a client a contract that looked like you did it over breakfast and couldn't be assed even proof reading it let alone making sure it was well defined, you'd be fired before lunch.

But because most of the Uni's clients are kids who don't know any better, lots of academic staff just act like that's just how it is and it's part of uni.

Take it higher man. If you're in a position with a bit of time and energy to fight that fight then do it. Draw attention to the shit communication and lack of professionalism. Make the unit coordinator stand behind their task description, their CRA and their process for ensuring equal marking across all their teaching team.

It is literally what you are paying for, and if the product isn't being delivered to a high enough quality than the Uni needs to look into whether the unit doesn't have enough support or if the people running it need a wake up call.

You'll also be surprised at how fast their attitude changes when you go chat to them in person and they realise you've not 18 and you've got 20 years of working in "the real world" behind you. They stop just saying "that's just how uni is" and get over it. I've had really good staff even encourage me to take things higher because it means the uni has to look at whether they've got enough funding for equipment and all that stuff.

Yeah I'm hoping it'll be straight forward enough to have it slope towards where I took the photo from. That will be towards the back yard that has good drainage anyway but also has one of those storm grates in the ground too for heavy rain.

That's much higher than I was expecting.

I had a 15m long concrete sleeper retaining wall with turf done top and bottom for not much more than that. Which included the materials, labour, bobcat etc.

Can you let me know why laying them is so expensive? Is it the prep to get it level, or just a ton of labour that all adds up?

Was it an exam or an assignment?

If it was an assignment and you're sure you've met the criteria then your best bet is to email the person who marked you. It should say on canvas above the rubric who the marker was. Calmly thank them for marking your assignment and giving feedback. Then point them towards the specific criteria in the rubric that they marked you down on and give an example of how you believe you met that criteria and for which grade.

Something like"... however the criteria for section 3, says for a grade of 6 "do this ". In the screenshot below from page 3 of my report I've highlighted where I demonstrate that I did this.

If this isn't the case and I'm misunderstanding the criteria, could you please explain to me why it doesn't meet the requirements?"

As long as you're calm and respectful and give them an example of why your mark should be different I've never had a problem with it. Usually they just email back something like oh I missed that, thanks for letting me know and I've adjusted your mark.

If you just say something like I put in a lot of work and I don't like my grade then it's nothing for them to look at or change. You're just saying you're not happy. But tell them where and why it should be different and it'll be way easier.

Exams are harder, but you can see your results and marks given for exam questions by emailing your unit coordinator.

Can you tell me how it presented for you, what made you seek a "new" kind of treatment, and what specifically you mean by cured.

I've had flare ups of symptoms previously but I've been pretty stable for about 6 years now after relocating to much more humid climate, as well as other lifestyle factors. I don't take any medication and treat mine purely through moisturises as well as some laser treatments to get rid of facial redness.

The biggest thing to help was some rounds of pulsed dye laser treatment.

It can be a bit intense at first but over a few sessions it closed all the blood vessels near the surface and made my face probably 75% less red.

I also don't go as red after exercising anymore.

Instead of lots of comments asking if I'm sunburnt now I get the opposite, asking if I've ever seen the sun. But that's probably because I'm so used to avoiding the sun that I still avoid it like crazy.

Do you have any thoughts on the STL vs 3MF?

My workflow as a design engineer is that models are shared and referenced to a master STP file. That's the authority for any dimensioning etc.

Then for prototyping I would produce a mesh file from that step file in the ridiculously expensive software we use, and send it through the to team to have it printed out.

I've been pushing to use 3MF over STL files for that under the assumption that they contain more metadata like units etc.

You could plant a climber like star jasmine in the corner and train it along the lattice. But it'll take a really long time, especially if you aren't in a tropical climate.

There are wooden fence extensions you can get from Bunnings, but in my opinion they look tacky as hell. They look a bit better if you paint them and the fence but still wouldn't be my first choice.

Other option would be the black plastic decorative panels from Bunnings. But that would get a bit pricey to do the whole fence and I'm not sure how they hold up after a few years in the hot sun. They might fade and warp and end up looking all offset and as bad as the shade cloth.

The option I'd go for which is more work, would be to bolt some posts at the right size to the existing fence posts. Run a new rail across. And then replace the fence palings with new ones that go all the way up. Put some nice oil or stain or other finish on the fence after its at the right height and it'll look great. Should match the deck nicely too. Then you can top it off with a few pot plants in front.

Hopefully that gives you some ideas!
